    Great video, about to do my first honey harvest on my own. My dad has handed down all his bees and equipment for me to carry on. My first season on my own this year!

    Greetings from across the pond! Some great things to think about even for us over here. I'm also quite amazed, your regulations are worse than ours'. The one most important warning to keep babies safe, and neither of our countries sees fit to require it, while having a bunch of other nonsense on what we can and can't put on our labels.

    You only covered half.
    The larger legal issues are extraction and the hygiene conditions which have never been covered in youtube.

    Very useful video. Thank you. The Info online is quite confusing, so this was extremely helpful. Is there any other food regulations you need to comply with in order to sell honey to shops or on food markets? Hygiene, food safety, products of animal origin etc?
    Is there any different regulations for bee pollen, as it could be allergen?
    Thanks Lawrence

    • @BlackMountainHoney
      @BlackMountainHoney  3 роки тому +1

      Cheers Antoni. Glad it was useful. Been meaning to put this one together for a while now as I know it took me an age to try and get to a legally compliant label. Most markets require minimum of a level 2 food hygiene certificate. You need HACCP procedures. You need a food hygiene rating. You need Risk Assessments. You public liability insurance. Never sold pollen but assume it will come under the more stringent food regs which is a whole different ball game and one I am keen to avoid ;)

    I have what I believe to be the best tasting honey I've had. I was wondering if I can send you a sample and you can test it out and let me know where to go with it in terms of selling and advertising etc. It's pure white from Kyrgyzstan and comes from a family run farm in the mountains and I may be one of a few people in the UK with access to it. Let me know thanks. And really appreciate the helpful video!

    Thank you for another informative video. I use the term ‘Raw’ and will stick with it for the time being. It’s an interesting point regarding requiring the storage conditions, I don’t have that and many other don’t either. When I get the next batch of labels printed I’ll add it on.

    • @BlackMountainHoney
      @BlackMountainHoney  3 роки тому +1

      Like a lot of the stuff mentioned in the video, its rarely enforced as TS have bigger fish to fry! I LOVE the word RAW as it differentiates PROPER honey from the syrup products stocked in the supermarkets. I wish the BFA would lobby to use the word and give it a proper designation. The marketing on that word is quite incredible and already well bred into people's mindsets. I know what RAW means. You know what RAW means. The customer knows what RAW means. I honestly dont know why people have a problem with it. Can you sense you've hit a nerve there!? ;)

    • @petejesper
      @petejesper 3 роки тому +1

      @@BlackMountainHoney I completely agree with you. More important arguably are the condition in which people extract and bottle their honey, sadly I know a lot of people still do so in their garage or kitchen with pets in the house, both of which are taboo.

    Hi Lawrence,
    whats the issue with calling your honey organic?

    • @BlackMountainHoney
      @BlackMountainHoney  3 роки тому +1

      You need to be able to guarantee that the bees aren't foraging on ANYTHING that's not organic. So you basically need 27 square miles of organic estate to qualify the honey as organic

    Did you say you have to put a physical address or will a FB page, website, email address suffice. A small producer who produces honey from their residence may not want their home address on a bottle for security reasons .

    • @BlackMountainHoney
      @BlackMountainHoney  3 роки тому

      Unfortunately yes. Its from the FSA Country of Origin Food Labelling Guidance Paper which states - 20. The name and address of the manufacturer or packer or seller in the EC
      is a mandatory labelling requirement under EU rules. This information should not
      be provided in a way that incorrectly implies origin. Whether or not that changes now we are out of the EU is another thing
