    Thank you very much Peter for this inspiration and for sharing your files.
    I finished my golden version today with a 60° V-bit. It came out great!
    The patina i achived with black transparent decor wax from Osmo.
    The effect is the same as with the acrylic paint, but the handling is much simpler. You have much more time until you have to clean up the surface.
    Best regards

    Nice job, Peter. I made mine on a 3040 machine so it is a lot smaller than yours. To finish it ( and you will love this), I used a stiff bristle brush to remove all the little dags that were left behind and then brushed in Brown boot polish - in the little round Kiwi can. The petroleum based polish soaked into the MDF and once dry, I could polish it up to a dull sheen; it looks spectacular!

    I wonder about using that Fleck Stone paint on the material before it's cut, then carving the pattern through the finish. That or possibly cutting the pattern, spraying the Fleck Stone, then recutting the pattern at a faster feed rate - just to carve the detail back into the material.
    I do love the use of acrylic paint over the enamel. I didn't know that meths (denatured alcohol) would remove the acrylic without effecting the enamel like it does. Thanks very much for that tip, Peter!

      To be honest the more I think about the stone fleck the less I like it. Strange because I have thought for years that it would look great.
      I believe wiping paint with Meths is a test used to determine if a paint is acrylic or oil based.
      Cheers

    Great video Peter. I just made my first calendar. I have applied the shellac and the spray paint. Its time to put the black acrylic paint. How long after applying all of the black paint did you wait to wipe it down with the denatured alcohol (methylated spirits)?

    Hi Peter thanks so much for taking the time to make this video! How many coat of the shellac do you apply I’ve been putting on one.

    wonder if you can use black shoe polish to fill in the grooves , prolly be eazier with hot weater as it hardly dries though it might allways make youre fingers dirty when youre touching it
    might be able to revive the waterbased stain if you add a little water and maibe heat it up a little

    • @cncnutz
      @cncnutz  7 років тому

      I think the shoe polish would start to soften and run in hot weather with my luck.
      I'm afraid the stain is too far gone to revive it but a good thought.
      Cheers

    Hi Peter, great work,is the shellac necessary? Doesn't the copper paint seal it as well? I have carved one and am getting ready to apply a finish but don't have any shellac. I do have some mineral spirits would that work? Also you dont put a clear coat finish? Thank you

    • @cncnutz
      @cncnutz  4 роки тому

      I didn't try the copper paint direct onto the board but I suspect it would not give as good a finish without the shellac as I think it will soak in unevenly and give a blotchy appearance. I didn't coat the final job in clear once finish as each paint is a finish in its own right.
      Cheers

      The calander is 550mm in diameter with a flat depth of 7mm.

  • @paulconneely8212
    @paulconneely8212 5 років тому

    Thank you. I am suprised that depth was set at 7mm.
    I cut mine at 3mm ising a 90 degree 0.25 shaft bit from think and tinker. Sorry to be a pain, can you please supply all your settings speeds etc. Thank you
    I'm getting sore eyes looking at your other high quality videos
    Do you have a video on making sense of stl files?, thanks again.

    • @cncnutz
      @cncnutz  5 років тому +1

      Hi Paul
      I used a 90 degree 12mm cutter. I started at 100ipm but probably increased it to 200ipm using the override. The speed is 10000 RPM. I would have been better if I had set the flat depth to 12mm instead of 7mm as it would have been quicker.
      Are you aware that this a VCarve not an engraving. The depth of cut varies with the width of the piece being cut.
      I don't have anything on STL files.
      Cheers
      Peter

    Great job. One question: is the spray on paint also water based like the black paint?

    • @cncnutz
      @cncnutz  6 років тому +1

      No. It is solvent based which is why it is not affected by the methylated spirits (denatured alcohol).
