Wondermous video! I can relate, my associate owns a law firm and a cattle ranch, while in slacks and a polo shirt, him and I ventured to the Ranch on a cold day, in search of a cow having a calf, by 1 am in the morning we found her and the legs sticking out, well WILD DISCOVERY came LIVE and we had to tie her to the truck and pull the calf, again in my dress shoes, slacks and polo shirt, my introduction into Ranching. 15 years later, I'm still fixin fences, chasing calves, dropping range cubes, etc.Your videos are awesome, very educational, and thank you for sharing the memories.
As a Semi retired farmer in England ! If there is such a thing . I must say Mike your voice is Very Very distinctive it carries a trusting tone, in a down home fashion , your posts are great I try to not miss any they carry a very different style . Which is very easy on the Ear. God bless
I was a young cowhand in Western Canada and the southwest USA from 1961 up to the 1973 and it was the best years of my life. I'm 72 now and think back over my times as a young cowboy quite often. As for how you get things done? All I can tell you is ALWAYS DO WHAT'S IN YOUR HEART, NOT WHAT'S IN YOUR HEAD" Great videos Mike, and I wish you all the best in everything you do on your fine Wyoming Ranch.
Hi you two. I hope you won't drop your UA-cam channel. It is probably the best of its kind on UA-cam. BTW, we too like to feed "cake" to our cattle. We have this giant Longhorn, Albert. He is probably every bit of 2500 - 2800 pounds. I suspect he will gobble up a bit more than say 2 pounds of the stuff. Besides, he can also be bribed with apple slices and sugar cubes. If you give him those, and then rub the top of his nose and play with is ears, he will follow you around like a giant puppy (with enormous horns). :)
So .... Does he have a job for life ..... Or does he go the way of the rest of his brothers ? :) Please respond ... I would be interested to know what his future is ..... :)
I'm trying to prepair to start a homestead... maybe as much as 100 acres. I watch you on a fairly regular basis and I almost always find a gem to keep. Thank you for being you.
I did something similar a few year back, but it took me a long time to get my homestead. Now that I have it, it's a lot of work, but more gratifying. I hope yours it too. Congratulations on your retirement.
As you said to me before, things change and you hope for the better. You will find out as you go. I was just writing on another friend's youtube vlog about priorities and what makes you nervous or anxious. The 90's, especially the middle to the end, were about massive change for me, I buried 5 people in 2 years who were important to me (including my parents). I got divorced, and I moved to a new home. All this after transitioning out of doing a lot of elder care. I had to quit teaching college to take care of my ailing mom, who passed on. So, sometimes as you said, you can choose to make changes by choice, or sometimes you have to do what you can to help those family members end their life with grace and knowing that they were appreciated and loved. I love to watch your ranch, the animals, and part of me is there with you in Spirit, don't think that we are not there with you when you think that you are alone, doing it by yourself. Or Erin, if she's baking away for a Saturday afternoon farmer's market. We too, are with you in Spirit, in care and in love, with how you run the Ranch. Keep well and keep WARM!!! lol! xoxo from Chicago.....
Goddamn Patricia ... You hit the nail on the head ..... And you have gotten a few tears from me. I've found that when you set out on the "Road of life" .... It is with ALL good intentions ..... But you get sidetracked ..... And you just don't realise where you will end up ...... ?????? I am OK in my Nursing home now ..... I'm VERY well looked after ......But my Guardian Angel certainly had his work cut out with me ..... MANY TIMES! ROFL! And yes Patricia ..... We are ALL one in Spirit .... Mike is a good and honest man ..... He is being "looked after" ..... So is Erin ..... And I think that they know they are ...... :) I DO have my favourite channels that I go to .... Mike's is one of them ..... And the Friday live is a REAL hoot of a party ..... Something I look forward to each week .... The fun starts long before Mike n Co arrive .... And continues on after he leaves ...... ROFL! Mike .... You can be very proud of that ..... Getting people together from all over the world ...... I know that this old Aussie REALLY appreciates what you do ..... Best Wishes Patricia and Mike ..... Jim
I think you made the right decision. its amazing how fast your channel has grown. i think i cam here on your third video when you where at 500 or 1000 subscribers and was pleasantly surprised when i saw you are already now over 60k subs and growing fast. you guys deserve it
Thank you Mike! I enjoyed watching you take care of your priorities. It was sad to know about your getting out of the Website Business, but at the end of the day you're answerable to yourself too, and that's why you have got to get your priorities right. Hats off to you!
I just discovered your vlog. Gosh, I was just in Wyoming last summer during an extensive driving trip.I stayed in Scenic, WY and also Centennial. I got to see much of eastern WY and the Bighorns. I am not sure where you are located, but your ranch is fantastic. I live in Davenport, Iowa. Though I enjoy where I live, I miss being out in the country and being with animals. I am envious. Congrats on your "retirement." You know what makes you happy, so go for it! I retired from teaching in 2017, and now it's time for something new. Take care, and I'll be watching!
I know from where you speak. When I first retired from police work I was asked by the department if I would work part time to help with training of rookie officers and help administration, I did. Well after a year I found out by my surprise I had put in 2,651 hours of work part time. If you work 40hrs a week 52 weeks a year that's 2,080 hours. So I told the powers to be I was retiring for good. They tried to get me to stay but I wanted to travel and you can't do that when you don't have the time. You just have to prioritize what is and what isn't important in life. God bless.
Thank you very much Brian, makes sense. I have had friends that have retired and worked harder than they ever have. By the way, have any old patches laying around for Mackenzie? - Mike
Good morning Mike and Erin , I am in the process of doing the same thing . Cutting back on some extra activities and investing more time into the farm. Being to busy - pretty soon the important projects on that list become even more stressful and as we all know when the stress level rises the enjoyment greatly decreases.
Hi Mike on the big theater that’s pink feeder you need a half inch piece of angle iron or they’re just gonna rip the lag bolts out again and congratulations on your retirement
Good for you Mike! I read that in the heard report congratulations, I’m always looking foreword to the videos, keep doing what you love to do and it seams like you never work a day.
Thank u Mike, you encourge me to leave trucking industry to raise cattle in Texas. You dont candy coat it, it looks like long 14 hr. Days and hard work and lots of family time, and thats what counts to me, Priceless informative information you share. Thank you
A great message, Mike thank you for sharing. As I continue to move through the retirement process, prioritizing my life is most important. I have many small "things" going and sifting through those has been tough. As our lives change so do priorities. Again, great message for all.
Hi again! Growth change and new focus are always good things Mike if a person stays open to the possibilities and committed to moving forward. I admire the time and thought it took for you and Erin to arrive at that decision as I have done the same. Goals give excitement and purpose but change can sometimes feel scary and empty til you fill it with new ideas and ways of doing things. You both have already shown you're ready to take the ride so I can only hope and pray for your continued success but I know you'll be just fine!!!!! Finally off to do the surgery thing so I may not comment for a bit but I'll still be watching! Onward you go...
Beef prices are so up and down from one year to the next having another income stream sure must be comforting when there is a family counting on you. You have the local food trade and Our Wyoming Life. Glad you have choices Mike.
Maybe you can sell your business for a little bit or hook your clients up with some local business that is starting out and could use a boost. Best of luck in however it works out.
In my experience Mike, if doubt starts to creep in about something you're doing, there's usually a reason for it. Tough decision to make, but you seem confident in your decision and in the end, that's all that matters. Hope all is well, thanks for sharing!
Im a big fan of you, you are the man to have on my phone, love the ranch, had a ranch in Mexico that my old man give me but sadly I sale it after having family problems because the ranch and my dad decision, wish I honestly fill like shit after I did this but it bring my mind back to my self, however wont stop till when I own another one! Hugs to you guys on the ranch, beautiful ranch, beautiful life style, beautiful family. God Bless your daily hard work.
I also use plumbing strap put around the hog feeders. Seems to work. Have not lost a feeders since I installed the plumbing strap. Love your weekly stories.
I hope you the best on your decision, I know it wasn't easy but the fulfilled life has more reward than riches. I have no doubt that should, God forbid, ever collapse that you would be welcome back to the business. Certainly enjoy your website.
That is so awesome to hear a change is good & always always put your family 1st like the ranch now that you know your only human you can't help everyone but you can help yourself lol
I didn't realize you had a history in voice work, but after listening to a few videos, I kept thinking of how you could probably make a living with just that. Enjoy your ranching, and just pick other stuff that is special.

Everyone that I know that retired from one job, wonders how they had the time to do it in the first place :) - Mike
Hard decisions are never easy but you have to live and enjoy your family. God Bless you all.
Very true, thank you Fiona - Mike
through my life and I'm almost 70 I worked multiple jobs many at the same time good for you for picking the ones that are most important for
Good for you on the big decision. Those around you being family, the ranch, your livestock and home country deserve priority.

i am so glad you decide to help Gilbert and keep the ranch going hugssssss from Ontario Canada
Most people, myself included, envy the ranch life and wish to be a part of it. Thanks for all the great content so that we can be a part of yours.

Great video, your doing a great job, ranch looks great
Giving up a second income when you own a farm is tough but it worth it in the end especially since farming takes up so much time
I was going to say you have a great voice. You could be a country singer for sure. Great video!
