A great film. Does not have a traditional narrative. Like war it is unpredictable, savage, pointless to some degree, grinding, and amoral. I did not understand everything that was going on, but the last 30 minutes was tough as everyone dies.
they absolutely battered the Russians into submission with nearly a 2 to 1 troop ratio and only 25,000 Fins dead to the Russians 180,000 dead! Finnish Pyrrhic victory and tactical victory but overall a Russian strategic victory

Incredible, every single subtitled line completely either mistook the emotion of the line or conveyed an incorrect literal meaning of what was being said.
Truly an unnecessary comment. Virtually every line in this movie is spoken in heavy dialects (just look at Rokka and say he doesn't have a heavy ass dialect) which makes translating the real meaning, purpose and feelings incredibly hard to translate. Translating a finnish saying to a foreign audience is also really hard, because that saying most likely holds absolutely zero meaning and purpose in that country. How are you supposed to make a Welsh-man understand 100% of what is being written or spoken in Finnish? You don't. (My aunt has been a Finnish-German transkator for several TV-shows, some minor movies ect works for several decades. One show she has been translating for over 10 years. This being every single episode.)

I have seen this movie here in Finland when it came out. As I have seen dozens of time the previous film of the same book I wasn't expecting more than a good movie. I was wrong. I recommend seeing a war movie without the Hollywood type of heroism you often see in war movies. War is misery and effect the entire population. We paid dearly for the freedom we've been enjoying ever since second war.
I've only seen the TV miniseries so I can't say if that is in any movie version but it is in the miniseries. The miniseries is available at least in Finnish/Nordic Netflix now. Don't know if it is anywhere else.

Humble People, yet extraordinary accomplishments.
Once upon a time, little Finland refused to get bullied by its terrible neighbours

Basically everyone except Rokka die, yes.
Thanks for the spoiler. Hate it.

Well to be fair. In the continuation war both sides suffered double the amount of casualities, but still Soviets still took bit of a beating too.
@@SomeNordicMan Both wars combined, where Soviet union had over 500k killed.
Finland had about 200k wounded, Soviets had 775k wounded.

Finland is the only Axis power that can make such a movie, because they were the only Axis that were the good guys.

Who the hell wrote that description for the film? It does not describe the film in the slightest

Maybe in the book but not in the film.
First unknown soldier came out in 1950’s in finland. I think its a tradition to call it that.

This is a bit of a guess, but I think the movie was also released as a miniseries, with some additional scenes, that might be one of those.
