it's not a PROPER sufjan song unless you can cry yourself to sleep listening to it and i think this one will work well
I can't cry myself to sleep with Get Real Get Right and that's one of his best songss
ellory - suggest me more songs of him....
this one gets a checkmark
I try to only cry myself to sleep if I'm expecting the ghost of Carl.
I laughed at this comment because I spent a full hour playing this song and breaking down in each replay.
This is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard in my entire life.
was not expecting my whole celestial being to be comforted today. shiiiiit
Hearing Sufjan's voice soothes my baby soul.
By the peculiarities of orbits, Mercury is, on average, the closest planet to all the others. Always running away, and always returning nearby.
so few people realize that mercury is the closest planet to every planet.
it's crazy to think how big of a Beatles, floyd, dylan, radiohead, etc fan I grew up as yet no music has ever moved me as much as sufjans.
This is a reasonable statement. I'm 53 and I've loved music of all kinds since childhood. I heard him in a coffee shop run by some young born again Christians about 8 years ago and have since obsessively hunted down everything Sufjan has done. My wife and I saw him live in 2015 which confirmed my sense of how really amazing and significant he is. I admire him more than any contemporary music artist in my lifetime at this point and "Planetarium" is another knockout.
For me, the next step is Sigur Ros.
That's because his music is an emotional evolution beyond what we have had before. It's in the very nature of the man to step beyond his nature.

makes me really pleased to see others admire his special art..
most of my family and friends think I have a bad taste in music every time I recommend him. Bless you all.
I hear that, Aaron. This is my #1 favorite song - above the Beatles, Dylan, Nina, everyone. This moves me too. :)
I love Sufjan but don't forget that credit is also due to Bryce, Nico, and James for making all of these strikingly beautiful noises.
ThePenguinsAreDancin yes I absolutely love the music in this album. it is everything I could have wanted and more
I like you name, penguins dancing are best =)
I distinctly hear Muhley in this and I'm sorry but the music itself is blowing the vocals out of the water imo

Lol
masterpiece, Sufjan always makes me feel alive
It would be awesome to actually hear this song in a planetarium with a really good sound system. One of the most beautiful things I've ever heard, it really brings a tear or two
Sufjan singing over minimalist compositions, breathtaking.
SUFJAN IS LOVE
Sufjan is life
Mariana Franco put this on a t-shirt already!
Sufjan is beauty
Oh yes the good ol' killing me with his soft tiny lil voice 👌🔥 10/10
"You ran off with it all" is a lyrical beacon of light for me today. I feel very grateful right now.
DJ Joanie B why?? What do you mean?
Makes me think of my former “best friend” who broke my heart into a thousand pieces and then just as I was healing and regaining some stability came back for an encore performance. He stole my faith in myself and in humanity. It feels like he stole everything good inside me...and then just “ran off with it all.” I don’t think I will ever understand how human beings can be so cruel, but Sufjan’s beautiful music does ease the pain a little bit.
caroline johnson I felt a similar feeling with my friend whom I grew to love. I thank Sufjan for his discography and countless songs that seem to relate to my youth and life.
Three years later, I sincerly hope you are okay and have healed. I understand deeply how you feel (as it happened to me as well) and it hurts me to know that someone else had to go through that feeling of losing hope through someone that were once a pillar of their life. I hope you are okay today.
I hope you are doing much better now!
@craziijess007 yes, I have healed. Time has allowed the raw pain to mellow and help me gain a better understanding of the situation. Eventhough, I wish my "best friend" would have handled things differently, I am grateful that the relationship and its ending were necessary for me to grow and mature. I hope you have healed as well.💗
❤
I want this played at my funeral.
But not before
same here, man.... it makes me want to cry....
did not expect tears to be forcefully extracted from my eyes. thanks. I'll never get those back. don't you know it's a drought, Sufjan?
This is so beautiful. Loving the Death with Dignity vibes at 2:27
"Carrier friend" "with the wind in your hair" :)
Carrier friend, you'll never see us again
Man, I felt it so hard
It makes me want to know the timeline of when he wrote those two songs. I feel like Mercury might have actually been written first?? But yes I love that connection
Live performances of Mercury date back to at least 2012 with the same tone inflection so yes it is likely it was written first :)
I love him??? I want him to be happy?
Expression of Unknown
Such a different feel from Saturn, just a wonderful contrast. Soft, somber, weightless. It took my breath away within the first few moments.
It begins with a piano, and then you're in space !
Damn.. This is beautiful.
what a time to be alive
i would have to say i agree with you good sir!
God Friended Me brought me here... mesmerized by the voice.. loving it!
The animation to this is terrific. I believe the background for the planet is actually showing a table that has a lot of salt or sugar on top of it, they're animating on top of that.
I love Sufjan Stevens but good god I can't listen to much because it just makes me want to cry for all the loss in life.
Haven't noticed a lyrics post yet so . . . :
All that I've known to be of life
And I am gentle
You ran off with it all
And I am faithful
All that I felt within my arms
And I am weightless
You ran off with it all
And I am speechless
All that I've said to get it right
And I am confident
You ran off with it all
And I am steadfast
All that I thought, to be precise
And I am consequence
You ran off with it all
And I am sorry
And I am sorry
All that I've known to be at peace
And I am desperate
You ran off with it all
And I am restless
All that I've known to be of love
And I am gentle
You ran off with it all
And I am desperate
All that I dream
Where do you run, where do you run to?
And I'm evidence
All that I dream
Where do you run, where do you run to?
And I am faithless
All that I dream
Where do you run, where do you run to?
Now I am messed up
All that I dream
Where do you run, where do you run to?
Carrier, friend
Where do you run?
>Careful, he's a hero
Found this after listening to Desert Island Discs on Radio 4 this morning. It was one of the choices of the author, David Mitchell. What an incredibly beautiful song. The deep quality of Sufjan’s voice as he sings ‘where do you run to’ is quite extraordinary - gives me goosebumps every time.
I love you. What a beautiful song. No one is ever alone. We might find ourselves in troubling times but always know, there is someone who wants you. Wants you to be ok and happy. Be that person for yourself first. And then remind them why they loved you in the first place.
He can't do this again...force me to only listen to one album for 2 years straight. Its not fair. I'm sure other people make music too!
bei diesen Künstlern sind auch die Texte oft fantastisch
This is 💯
CMAO! #RELATABLE
To infinity and beyond! Thank you, Sufjan, Bryce, Nico and James for this masterpiece..
Sufjan's poetry. One and only...
the instrumental bit is soo beautiful
So gentle and beautiful...this is why I need Sufjan
I miss those big, harsh orchestra hits from the live version. But I still love it
I was thinking the same thing, but, alas, I still love it, too. THAT FALSETTO.
When you say live version, are you saying there is a live version of this song?? If so, how can I find it?
girher yes there is, it's a few years old but if you just search Mercury sufjan live it should show up!
girher this album, Planetarium, started out as primarily a live show in like 2012 and the songs from it just now getting proper studio recordings
sometimes i wish i dont have any memories or any feelings, cause it hurts when you feel it
punched right in the feelings
Hahaha
Heard this wonderful song on the "God Friended Me" tv show pilot. What a beauty!
Me too!
WHAT!!!
this song astral projected me
1:44 i am in love with this
The piano at the end is beautiful and makes you wish for an encore.
The melodies of this beautiful soul lets me free fall into my own ocean of sorrow where I wallow in it's ephemeral being...………...this track also has a John Martyn texture to it...…...Thank you for sharing your beauty...………..
God Friended Me. Thanks to this, it led me here to this beautiful piece.
Gio Franz the show played this song?
yes they played it on their first episode as closing remarks.
Bryce has brought the heart of The National with him here.
I feel like my soul got ripped open and sewn back together through the course of this song
Even after nearly 12 years your music still acts as a direct conduit to my soul. Thanks, Suf.
This is wonderful
The show "god friended me" brought me here
this's such a beautiful song
RhMoSh Al what a beautiful show
Aren't We all, such beautiful creatures.
Listening to Sufjan whilst caressing the contours of the high mountains of British Columbia cleanse my pains and invite each whisp of alpine air.
Mesmerizing song, as all of Planetarium. Such skill in crafting these songs about these celestial bodies, that are so full of emotion.
voice of enigmatic, dreamy, hypnotizes completely
i love this whole album so goddamn much i can't even express it in words. please do a Planetarium II, sufjan and friends. it's transcendent.
i love in the lyric content the way he falls apart
Dreamy! Love the fact it turns into an instrumental piece half way through.
Outstanding, brilliant, beautiful.
It’s a little jarring how deeply his music hits at certain moments.
God bless Sufjan for dragging me softly into another planet
Song of the year right here
Sad but so beautiful. It is so ethereal, like from a dream. I love ambient music and straight brainwave sounds because they can take my mind to where no mainstream music can, no matter how well written, and this song takes me there.
Absolutely beautiful.
Guess we have to see it live to get a grand version of this
Love the collaboration
Hypnotic.
These album versions are just too good.
Going to see Sufjan perform at the Fox Theater in Oakland on July 21st which just happens to be my birthday!
Awesome! Have a great time. And Happy Birthday!!! Peace and Best Wishes to you
Sublime !
i am listening to this song and it is lightly snowing -- and there is a sadness washing over me, yet a warmth at the same time and my heart just smiled 😊-- this song is just so beautiful in all the ways 💙🌠💙
dude, the story behind this song is fucking sad..... this is a really good song......
this is heavenly
i died
i died too
PLEASE send help my already lifeless body will not be able to endure planetarium
Same
Still alive tho
portal reference?
Makes sense, since this is heaven in the form of a song
absolutely stunning.
Mercury is my zodiac planet and normally I wouldn't care that much, but he made it so beautiful... First few seconds and I'm crying.
tesla soliloquy I'm feeling it.
Colin Coonie right? he just makes you see things differently :)
this whole album is a master piece
The 12 people who disliked this obviously don't understand the context of all this after Carrie And Lowell.
Haven't cried at a song in a long time.
Thank you Sufjan.
Listening to this song is like therapy, It's the perfect song imo. I can't stop!
Again, I am comforted by his divine voice...
Beautiful!
This song seems like the logical progression from Carrie and Lowell. It still has the somber feeling that Sufjan delivers so well, but isn't afraid to add lots of sound when needed.
this go hard af
such beauty
Extraordinarily beautiful... Sufjan has a voice that could stop a tsunami in its tracks.
wow this is wonderful
One of the most beautiful things I've heard!
every day
I pray
more planitarium sufj
I'm so glad they're finally recording the planetarium :')
sweet sweet soofjams 😍
devastating and gentle. love it. i'm crying right now
Pure magic. I literally saw this right after my friends and I were talking about writing a record in Space. Thank you.
This song gives me goosebumps like every 5 seconds jeeez...especially in the second half.
I fall in love with this song Sufjan Stevens😍😍😍😍
Soothing but makes me anxious at the same time. I love it!
Thats what Mercury do!
Has anyone ever wondered if this is a love song from "self" (spirit/soul) to "persona" (ego)? saying like. HEY! im still here. why have you forgotten me? why are you still searching? "Where do you run?" come back to me --- Carrier, friend. I am with you. I have always felt this. Like the song is a voice from within me calling out to me. but until now i missed what i now see as confirmation. in this lyric video, all the "i's" look like 2's
If i listen this,i realize what good music is, its so special sufjan let you feel in another world.
I dont know how i describe this but it's so beautiful.....
whenever i need a good cry i always play this song
No trombones, which is sad - but in a haunting beautiful way.
Can't wait to lie in the dark on my bed one warm evening with headphones and listen to this album. Shall be very nice.
my favourite voice in the whole world
Can't wait for the release!
So lucky arr those people who heard this song.. ☺️
Best single of the year, hands down
Seriously such a hauntingly wonderous and sorrowful, ascending song. like whoa. my heart just went thump thump thump to a calmness and a sadness and a hope I felt only a few times before. right before the wonder came home, straight back to me. thank you to all the cool beans who made this song! ah!
Tinkeroftime Little Seed ❤️ its the music i hear it everyday.
