I like it when you play the guitars of GSI as it really shows off the sound of the guitar. This guitar really does sound good and as a bonus is very beautiful. Thanks Ken for this very informative video.
My guess is that it's a Shubb classical capo. At least it looks like the one that I have. They are very nice because they are easily adjustable while on the fret.
The other Paul is right - it's a Shubb. A student gave it to me and I like it! I also really like traditional peg capos and the Planet Waves NS capo. Cheers, Kai
Thanks. I have a Shubb and for some reason, I didn't recognize the one in the video as being one that make. I've been struggling with finding the "right" capo and even with the Shubb I get bass string buzz at at the 4th and 5th frets. I'm wondering now whether that's not really a capo issue but one of setup, and that I only notice it more when using the capo. I notice you place the capo midway between the frets. Is that what you deem to be the bast placement? By the way, loving to sing as I do, I play pop fingerstyle pieces on my Hill New World Player, but do greatly appreciate the amazing musicianship of classical and Flamenco players.
Hi Paul, While it might be a setup issue, I have found, particularly with the Shubb, that placing it directly behind the fret works best for me, both in terms of buzzing, and intonation. On my steel string guitars, I actually place it (sometimes) on top of the fret, but that is very capo specific - you need to have a very low profile capo for that to work well.
Paul Ashley Do you get buzzing if you just bar with your index at the fourth or fifth? If not then it’s most likely the capo/placement, and if so then I’d look into the setup. Cheers, Kai
