Simply one of the most accomplished and amazing singers in the world today! The ornamentation is not just in the notes, but with timbre, phrasing, etc. Simply stunning.
She can't sing. And she is very strange, it's also uncomfortable to listen to her. Most of the opera singers sing better than her, her existence is white supremacy!
@@BandAid68W Actually, I think she is a castrato,,,,,,,,,,,,or something. (LoL) Look at her arms,,,,,,,,,(Not that there's anything wrong with that!) I want to marry her. And have her sing me to sleep every night. What an artist!! What a woman!!
@@ointmentaccolades8087 I would laugh if it wasn't such a tragic comment. If you knew anything at all about Malena Ernman you would know that she's far far away from any kind of connection to white supremacy in any form.
Que linda voz y que gran talento musical.Ella realmente emana un gran sentimiento al cantar: Su tecnica es perfecta, y su sentido de interpretación nos regala con una joya del canto lírico!!! Bravaaaa!!!
I feels so weird to listen to Radu Marian singing this first and listening to Malena Ernman afterwards xD Doesn't matter. I love both versions the same!!!! :3
@TheDorcy99 actually there is some controversy on whether or not the correct lyrics were "la dura sorte" or "mia cruda sorte". Many people who sing it do in fact sing the "mia cruda" which would give validity that it is at least the more popular of the two versions.
@AccidentalTouch Her range is out of the box. Since she can play within this box, as an singer, an artist, she can sing high/medium/low notes like no other. Her law....so to say :)
Ironically the first time I heard this exquisite aria by Handel was on Barbra Streisand's classical album.Handel himself must have loved the tune(a sarabande I think) as he used it three times in 3 different works -the first time being as an instrumental piece in his early German language opera "Almira" and then as "prendi la rosa lascia la spina" in "The triumph of time and truth" before using it again in the opera "Rinaldo".
Well, that is really relative...! I'm learning this opera on the piano, so i've been doing a lot of research, of course, and i started with this version. I've been looking for a better version since, and COULDN'T find one. Not even Cecilia Bartoli!! So i don't really agree with your "technical" point of view, even if it's not technically PERFECT... This version is perfect in its simplicity, it's simply beautiful. Peace!
@mrHayzooz Are you seriously telling a renowned mezzo soprano to "study more"? Does the word "hybris" mean anything to you? Malena Ernman is a member of The Royal Swedish Academy of Music.
Hi, I am also from Sweden and has also learnt this song for my repertoire. This is how we are taught to sing. same with all the Baroque rep, really. It started in Stockholm well before Elisabeth Söderström, so it's a difficult thing to get rid of. Yours, Ann
@@annlidslot8212 This is a great voice and interpreter. Listeing to her sing Rossini she doubles the "enn" on the word "Una" in the aria Una Voce Poco Fa. A very fine detail to be sure. I have no complaint. Soderstrom, Nilsson, Ragnar Ulfung, Ingvar Wixell, et al . I have been singing in the chorus of San Francisco Opera since 1975 and these are but a few of the extravagently gifted artists who I got to hear and perform with live.
@@claudiasiefer8495 Hi, I are completely on your side when it comes to Ms. Ehrnman's pronunciation. I was just trying to explain why she is rolling the R's so hard. That is just the way it has been taught for so long so it just comes in when we sing anything baroque. My voice teacher-coach and I have had long discussions about it plenty of times. The other sounds are easier for Swedish singers. Apparently we have most of the different sounds of the world in our native language. I know that we don't have the klick sounds used in different languages in Africa, but we can do them if we have to. I tried and got compliments:). there seems to be three different r sounds in French, but I can not hear them as that is something we don't have. You must have had so much fun being in SFO. I haven't been, as I live outside of the Americas, but that company has such good reputation. It's on my bucket list, but I have to see if it if possible in the future. I have some diagnoses that makes traveling challenging. Yours, Ann
Radu Marian is probably the closest, but we don't really know its Also, as with any voice type, there are different singers, and he has facial hair and doesn't look like a descriptions of castrati. As to the surviving recordings, a) wasn't an opera singer - he sang mainly in churches b) he was way past his prime c) the recording technology was bad. Judging how Farinelli sounded from Moreschi recordings is like judging how Renee Fleming sounds after listening a church soloist past her prime.
"as Farinelli"? Wow, you heard Farinelli... Did you invent a time machine? Seriously, Farinelli died in 1782. He was a famous castrato, we don't have them nowadays. You probably mean the voice in the "Farinelli" movie. This was a combination of voices of countertenor Derek Lee Ragin and soprano Ewa Malas-Godlewska digitally merged together: they wanted to try to approximate castrato voice so they thought using a countertenor for high notes, of course nobody knows how castrati really sounded.
I know of Moreschi and I've heard him here. There are three problems with Moreschi vs famous castrati like Farinelli 1. Moreschi wasn't an opera singer, he sang mostly in churches, and we don't know how good he was. So it'd be a little bit like someone in future trying to judge how say Malena Ermann or Renee Fleming sound after hearing a recording of a church soloist. 2. Moreschi was way past his prime when he made the recordings. 3. The recording quality of the time is pretty bad.
That's actually not true. There are surviving recordings and there still exist today some actual endocrinologically-aided "castrati." Radu Marian, for example is one.
Man könnte sagen:"Gut gebrüllt, Löwe!".
Simply one of the most accomplished and amazing singers in the world today! The ornamentation is not just in the notes, but with timbre, phrasing, etc. Simply stunning.

Malena doesn't just sing. She plays her voice like a fine Stradavarious Violin! She is a human instrument with the voice of a goddess!
Voice of a castrato.
She can't sing. And she is very strange, it's also uncomfortable to listen to her. Most of the opera singers sing better than her, her existence is white supremacy!

Maybe the best I've heard of this piece. The perfect amount of ornamentation near the end, not over-done. Exquisite taste, I think.

Lovely rendition of this old opera piece. Beautiful voice!

HERMOSA ARIA Y QUE VOZ!

In my humble opinion this is the best performance available here on UA-cam. It seems to me it is solemn as it should be, not hyped.

I'm not saying she's bad at singing, I'm only saying she should have read the text in the right way. MI = to me; MIA = my.

Well. :) What you wrote that's ok, but in the original italian note/sheet that's la dura sorte. :) But her voice is not bad, really great .:)

Nice, but I don't like how she roles the "R", it's not in the Italian language and it's too harsh for this Genre.
