I've followed a different pattern of hers before where I followed the instructions well (no extra stitches) and this happened then too. The hat ended up OK but I'm wondering if I'm doing anything wrong?
I've now made a second hat and realised my mistake! I used 12 DC to start instead of 11 so the hat turned out bigger than expected too. Thanks for the great tutorial, the hats look great

Hi, the pattern is the same for all sizes. newborn - head measurement 13inch - hat height 4.5 to 5 inch. hook 3.25mm 3-6 months - head measurement 14-15 inch - hat height 6.25 inch - hook 3.5mm 6-12 months - head measurement 16-17 inch - hat height 6.5inch - hook 4mm

The measurements are given . When the flat part of the hat is made. It’s important to get that width before commencing with the length of the hat. If yours do not come to the right size either do and additional increase row. Or do the entire hat with 4mm . It’s all about tension , so if your tension is tight your hat will be smaller

Hi Nora, I’m not sure if my one year old has a small head but it fits her perfectly and i made it for my 1 month old niece, I’m worried that it might be too big for my niece, is there a way to make it smaller? Width wise?
Hi! Are you using lightweight yarn (DK) ? It’s definitely a 0-3 months size. The only way to make an item smaller is to use a smaller hook. Exactly the same with pattern but take off a row at the end
Hi. Its exactly the same pattern 3.5mm hook follow it through to the end but do an additional crochet row before the 2 front post back post crochet row. You need to aim for the total length from the top of the hat to the very last row to be 6.5 inch. If for any reason your tension is tight or you not getting the right size with the rows, just carry on with the normal double crochet until you get to about 6 inch total then do the 2 last rows.
Sorry just catching up in my comments. I do not get alerts for all of them. Use the same pattern using a 4mm hook. Head measurements 16-17 inches. Doesnt have to be spot on. Length of 6.25 to 6.5 inches ( including the last 2 rows for the front post). x

Hi There use a 4mm crochet and follow the same pattern. Head measurement 19-20 Inches and hat length 7.5 inch approximately x
