    SGD thanks for the props, glad it "saved your butt"...I couldn't find any others myself, so new all the trouble I went thru was being experienced by many. Just had to show that its doable by anyone. Smooth driving & idling.

    I'm going to try this because shops are so crooked even at big dealerships. Thanks for video. I have ordered the gaskets today.

      I was able to accomplish this by watching your video. It took me a total of 7 hours taking my time. I used a small mirror and light on the back wall to see what I was doing. Thanks you saved me $$$$
      200 miles later my check engine light came back on. Auto Zone computer said, I have a sensor in the transmission bad. Can you offer any help with this?

      Jr cary thomas Probably order at local parts store, & replace yourself w/ socket/open end wrench. Sounds similar to the O2 sensor on exhaust pipe. DIY

    at 4:30 you can see the plenum is actually 2 pieces, by taking it apart at the end cap and the 2 bolts on top you can leave the back half in place, and that way you don't have to touch the throttle body and you don't have to get to those hard to reach bolts in the back, as well as the grounding strap and the throttle cables. You can still get the rear spark plugs out without all the extra hassle. It's still absolutely insane having to take the plenum apart and remove any part of it just to change the spark plugs.....but thanks for the video.

      i no dont no why he did all that,i got one and it was easy,see i have to do all that now cause ima doing a valve cover job,but your wright i dont no how he did all that,with the 2007 all you have to do is twist that stud off,the 2005 have a bolt, the 2007 have a stud,like i said all you have to do is grab a vice grips take it out and put a regular bolt on it..

    thanks a lot for this video, it helped quite a bit, mostly b/c I wouldn't have know about the 3 bolts in the back. Took me about 4 hrs to do this. I only replaced the TB and manifold gasket , I don't think the other is worth the hassle. Also you don't have to waste time removing the bolt at ua-cam.com/video/rmHxrh8GagQ/v-deo.html and the plate that covers it, IMO not necessary.

      chazmanlyroe, Thanks alot, I'm glad you saved some time on the spark plug change, it's a little tricky but anyone can do it and save a bundle. Your right on the gaskets, mine looked fine too. Also, yes a step/bolt removal isn't necessary to get to plugs, thanks again. Here's to smooth, tuned up, gas saving miles ahead.

    Hi, it is a great video and seems to be very helpful but I was wondering if you could describe the exact name and/or part number for all gaskets (air intake, main block, front intake, throttle,...) that you refer in this video?

    • @madwldgrp1
      @madwldgrp1  9 років тому +2

      The air intake throttle gasket, (on drivers side) & Plenum intake gasket (mounts on top of intake manifold. Never did replace the passenger side plenum gasket (even Kia would take weeks to get...gasket was still in good shape)
      Hope that helps, auto parts store can order, just get before starting the job.

    Not exactly the type of work I care to do in the cold of winter, but it seems removing the stud is a good way to shorten the job, but the trade off is getting the gaskets. I could see maybe reusing them, but sure would hate to have an air intake leak because I didn't.
    My mobile mechanic, normally pretty reasonable, would charge between $500 to just under $1000 to replace plugs, wires and do a throttle body cleaning. Sure hate to spend that much, but maybe I'll watch a few more UA-cam's and decide.

    Wondering if its necessary to take the bolts out of the passenger side plenum where there is a gasket to remove the intake ? Looks like taking those 2 bolts out isn't necessary ? Not sure any thoughts would be appreciated thnks.

    • @madwldgrp1
      @madwldgrp1  7 років тому +2

      marty, sorry I missed your post...yes, your right your don't have to take those bolts out. That gasket seems to hold up well without worrying about replacing. That would be the only reason to pull those bolts.

    Why arnt the spark plugs just at the back and easily accessible like on the older cars.I could even change them myself.Why do Kia put the plugs in the engine and make a 20 minute job into 4 hours

  • @jeromelush8542
    @jeromelush8542 7 років тому +3

    You do not have to take all that off, i just did it, all you have to do is lift that thing up his saying not to do, once you lift that off your back spark plugs are wright there You font have to take that back pices off where the 2 bolts are in the back,that will stay on and once you lift the other part up boom your plugs are there... i have a 20005 kia sportage 2.7

      Piri Hern, do my own work...trust issue with most shops and especially dealerships. Once in a great while on a great recommendation will I use a shop IF I don't have the time or knowledge on big job. I'm a big fan for diy, if I can do it anybody can do it. Keep at it Piri you got this.👍

    i did this job today. sonofabitch!. The bolt holes didnt line up with the rear bracket anymore. 6 hours to get the 3 bolts in. 8 hours for the whole job.

    • @madwldgrp1
      @madwldgrp1  7 років тому +1

      SGDeGalvez, I agree, $&%#^& Kia, they did a real number on the placement on those 3 bolts. Sorry you struggled about as long as I did on the spark plug job...was hoping to save everyone alot of time on the job. However, I'm happy for you to have the persistence to get the job done. Keep up the DIY and Congratulations...

    Hi....just wondering to change the cap and rotor/ or coil.....does the air intake need to come of for that too?

    • @madwldgrp1
      @madwldgrp1  9 років тому

      Mike S
      Mike, I never did have to replace/change the rotor/coils on the sportage, however on researching I found that some of the coils, being electronic are mounted to the plug wires 2 & 4 or such depending on the model. So, yes in that case the plenum would have to be removed to get to the spark plug wire. With the exception that your 2 & 4 plugs might be the easily accessible front 3 plugs. Sorry I couldn't be any more help. You might consult an auto parts shop or even as a Kia shop??

    • @madwldgrp1
      @madwldgrp1  7 років тому +1

      Jules Duval, sorry it's more directed at how to get to the hard to reach bolts to remove the plenum to get to back spark plugs on the Kia. Check out Jessicann or TVTara to actually see how to change a spark plugs...thanks for the view and comment.
