- My video highlights of 2022. The first video features me playing a beautiful acoustic electric with a very rich upright-type sound. The next video evoked quite a hearty and occasionally angry discussion about unlined and lined fretless basses. The third video came about because of Kate Bush and Stranger Things Season 4!

Excellent Tony,, Barefoot bass playing your signature 👍
Haha. Thanks. Once upon a time. It’s been a while. 🤩
Congratulations Tony, on the 38 year anniversary of the release of The Firm. I was lucky enough to see you guys in Cincinnati Ohio. And then for Mean Business in Dayton Ohio. I still live in Dayton, unfortunately the Hara Arena has since been torn down. Thank you for such great memories. And thank you for being here today so we can enjoy your genius
Truly appreciate that. Thanks for being part of the journey. They were amazing days.

@@FretlessMonster Cheers Tony
Cool bass lick! Nice highlights, thank you for sharing. 🇺🇸 🇮🇱 🇬🇧
Great. Thank you
Tony, you make UA-cam a better place. From musical theory to great stories! I still tell people to this day the little nugget you told me. I mentioned that the atonal guitar riff in The Firms "Radioactive" is a very Jimmy Page guitar riff. You told me that Paul Rodgers came up with that! I was so tickled to know that! I feel like a personal friend! Ha! Love ya, Brother!
That means so much. Thank you. Trying to do my part - one video at a time. 🤩👍🏻😊
@@FretlessMonster one of my favorites on here!
Outstanding, hopefully young musicians watch these posts For they will be inspired Cool Cat that Tony Franklin
I truly appreciate that. Sometimes the subtleties and foundational stuff can seem “boring”, but it is essential to good playing.
That was pretty epic. Cheers, Tony! ✌️
Great. Thanks for watching
Tony Franklin благодарю за обучение и исполнение.

I love watching your videos especially when you’re barefoot. Yeah, that is your signature.

You’re welcome. Ty again for sharing 🤩🤘🎩✌️❤️
On the Tune-ah lol
Chew-na! 😂😂
An elephant one day met a naked man. The elephant asked him, "hey you feed yourself with that thing?"
On another note, I love Tony's bass playing and have for a long time. Just sayin' eh. Cheers everyone from eastern Canada.
😂😂 That was random.
Thanks so much. Cheers to Eastern Canada.
Tony, can you do us all a favor? Please get Mr. Jimmy Page on the phone and tell him we are waiting for an album of new music from him! It's about time! Walking into Clarksdale was his last album of new music and that was 25 years ago! Or maybe show up to his house, bass in hand, and give him a kick in the ass to get him started again. I bet he would be happy to see you. Help us Fretless Monster, you are our only hope!
Haha. You think he would really pay attention to me? 🤷♂️🤩
He’s Jimmy Page. He does what he wants (or not!). And he’s given us so much.
Don’t get me wrong, I’d love for it to happen but it’s his call.
@@FretlessMonster Well you ARE The Fretless Monster, one of the greatest bass players he ever recorded with! Go get him going again! He ain't getting any younger!
Ah - lost backstage. So....gotta ask about your reaction to watching "This is Spinal Tap". haha
Well I saw Spinal Tap before this incident. The movie is so spot on and hilarious. It made complete sense and it still keeps things in the right perspective for me. Touring can be surreal, demanding and weird at times, but Spinal Tap reminds me to laugh at it all.
@@FretlessMonster One of the key takeaways for me is that 18" = 18 *inches*, 18' = 18 *ft*. And never wrap the cucumber in tinfoil before putting it in your pants. lol
What are your thoughts on finished vs. unfinished fingerboards?
I prefer unfinished. The coating adds glassiness and undesirable highs to the sound to my ears. I have one bass - my original 77 Firm Fretless which has a rosewood board. That needed an epoxy coating to essentially save the neck.
“Chew-na”, Tony, are you making fun of your own dialect?
Absolutely 😂👏🏻🇬🇧
It is late in the afternoon on (what I am learning to call) 4 February, 2023 as I leave this response comment. I am going to eat some tuna tonight for my dinner, and I now have to resist calling it “Chew-na”.
Nobody likes to be given LINES. We all remember those from our school days right! I could handle 24 better than 100 though... 🙃😅📑
Haha yes indeed.
