Hi Tim, love your channel and this epic sport of ours. I always run a shark shield, initially to appease my wife but now as certified shark insurance. It’s saved not only me from being bitten for sure twice but also helps recover fish that cave me up here on the reef in Cairns. By taking it off and depositing it on the rock the fish is hiding in allows you time to surface , breathe up and make an extraction dive while the sharks are repelled from their otherwise easy meal Have you tried them and if so why not continue to use them?
Interesting perspective on the fish retrieval I have dived with guys who use them and hated getting zapped by the cord. I also don’t like the weight drag on the leg in deep water. Definitely affects diving
@@Spearfishing-Downunder thanks for the reply Tim. It definitely affects diving esp up here with lots of delicate coral you’re constantly trying not to damage with it. It’s pretty easy after a couple of shocks to learn how to manage it so you don’t keep buzzing yourself, much 😅 I probably don’t dive deep enough for it to have made a noticeable difference for the ascent drag but free falling is no different I don’t feel. I’ve heard line fishermen targeting large mouth up here are suspending them on lines under the boats and improving landing rates You should try one for yourself and see if the extra distance the sharks keep, the caved fish protection and the mental peace of mind is a worthwhile trade off for the perceived short comings. It’d be a cool episode to watch you testing them. Maybe a bit less exciting for us though Thanks for sharing your adventures Tim
I just stumbled on this. How the hell do you hold your breath for so long and control your buoyancy so well? How the hell are you not afraid to get into shark infested waters? Beyond my comfort zone!!
started running a second smaller reel gun off my belt these days with a flopper-less spear, makes the problem go away permanently and don't have to spend anything on ammo.
His always done right by the ocean and land I've seen him give fish to people at his church where he is a pastor his done this b4 it was content on UA-cam so pretty silly comment when obviously you don't no him he'll most spearos are like him most sustainable way of fishing
@@tron1879 It doesnt really matter who you give the fish to though right? What im talking about is taking that many fish out of one spot all at once, doesnt matter what you do with it, they are already dead?

There’s gotta be a strange death wish to dive amongst sharks like this, wanting your fish.
No death wish just a part of what it means to dive here!
I just stumbled on this. How the hell do you hold your breath for so long and control your buoyancy so well? How the hell are you not afraid to get into shark infested waters? Beyond my comfort zone!!
We definitely just get used to it! So many sharks in our part of the world
It has a few times actually, watch YBS used to do it daily lol
YBS has shot a Black jewfish and a mulloway on the same spot? Gee I’ll put $1000 on that he hasn’t 😂🤣
You guyhave balls of stell spearing with sharks all around is insane especially bullsharks .
Definitely not something that we want to do, just something that happens diving in our area unfortunately
Do you guys ever see any tuna at Queensland?
Great video by the way 🎉🎉
We get a few different tuna species, yellowfin, long tail and Mack tuna. Shoot a few when Bluewater hunting
@@Spearfishing-Downunder sounds hectic. Thanks for the reply 👍
Just catching up on all the recent uploads! is that your 19R?
That’s my mate Brysons 19r
Just a question on why you guys dive at the same time? I see this in your videos a lot. Is this to prevent the sharks coming in close?
Definitely in this case it’s about team work because of the sharks
@@Spearfishing-Downunder yea those bulls look big and plentiful. love the channel always epic footage!
How far north have u seen snapper and pearlys Tim?
I’ve personally seen them up around Gladstone area, but I know they catch them in Mackay.
Sea snake terrify me.
Yes they love to get up in your face 😂🤣😂🤣
