  • Come camping with me! Paddle in on my inflatable stand-up paddleboard, on a creek on the Gulf of Mexico, across salt marsh to a primitive campsite in Bald Point State Park.
There, I have the scariest gator encounter of my life. Spoiler alert: I’m fine.
Primitive camping is something I’ve only picked up as a hobby in the past two years or so. I talk about why, and a bit about my UA-cam channel some more.
    Thanks for watching!

Hi Becky…somehow we found each other and I’m so grateful! You are amazing, brave, strong, wise, comical, did I say BRAVE ‼️💯. You are doing what I could never have had the courage to do….and with Alligators 🐊…my heaven.
A little about me. Until 5 yrs ago…I moved continents on my own , yes it was amazing …but never with alligators. I did come across about 5 ft from me and it tried striking my friend…it was a Peruvian rattlesnake whilst climbing the Inca Trail outside of Machu Picchu! Had it bit without an antidote death comes in a few hours. We managed , like you, to stay very still , after a time, which seemed like forever we continued our hike. At the time we weren’t aware that the rattler was what it was. Discovering this was ….can’t find he words 🤷🏼‍♀️
Peruvian rattlers are not large like American …they’re not very impressive, yet they have a loud rattle their bite is another tale!…. I know we were protected 🙏 we were naïve. You could say ignorant …we saw a wooden sign saying in Spanish “Beware of Snakes”…which we ignored… thinking someone placed it as a joke?!?😳
Anyway, I need to rest now…but I’ll say I now spend 9/10ths of my life laying down because of acute neuropathy on the left side of my body. As you said Becky you are grateful of all the reasons you can do these amazing adventures.
So, for today I am blessed to have experienced this small (not to belittle) part of your life journey! Thank you. ❤

Thanks for the story! What an adventure and thankfully your instincts told you to do the right thing. It is always a thrill - not necessarily the good kind - to hear and encounter a rattlesnake… and holy crap, it tried to strike your friend! Machu Picchu is someplace I’d love to see.
Boo neuropathy and chronic pain- thank you for your kind comment! I think you were in more danger than I.

I love the real Florida. I stayed in the state parks here for a 9 month get away and ended up working as a volunteer for one. I can't wait to get back to camping, kyaking and living the life.

Great job! (for the trip and for the video). It is more likely a Marsh Harrier that you saw. Not a Snail Kite. Cheers!
