BUS OF THE DAMNED LETS GO
Are the drawers on the bus empty though?
YOU"RE WRONG ABOUT CHILLUMINATI
I guess they are on the highway to hell
Desert Bus?
the bus is literally called The Ferryman
Ah, my favorite scary game youtuber, Alex "The Jirarditionist" Cox, and his alter ego Australian Davis.
This will be good.
Wait I thought there was 4 people playing
Underrated comment
I'm sooo surprised they didn't notice what was going on when talking to Vince straight away...
knowing how it goes and watching now, yea I can see the signs
Sssh :p.
The Curator: "My advise? To thine own self be true."
Me: "THEY CAN'T TELL YOU WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU'VE GONE GURU!"
ROCK THE TAMBOURINES AND THE DIDGERIDOO!
i like how jesse is the teach and yells NERRRRDDD
Taylor and Daniel are the most insane, nonhuman characters I've seen in a while. Nothing they do makes any sense in the context and their motivations and dialogue are just completely bonkers.
Was gonna go to sleep. Not anymore!! Been waiting so long for this thank you!!!!!
the squad is back baby!
I have waited a long time for this... can't wait to see them get annoyed at the ending
How was Until Dawn so good, where did these guys go wrong
They decided to make their games “co-op party games”. Until Dawn was great cause it was a slow burn focused on character. These new installments are short flash-in-the-pan games focused on goofy tropes and “OMG you see that?!?” moments. Take away character scenes like Jess and Mike’s snowball fight in Until Dawn, and it would have been very much like this game
I think it is just because the characters aren't very likable. But hopefully they will get better.
this game is not as bad as people say, and Until Dawn wasn't as good as people say. this is all i have to say.
I’ve been waiting for SGS to do Little hope! No other LP is as good as your gang
I watched another playthrough of this and thought the game was abysmal- but I love the SGS, so I’m looking forward to this!
I’m surprised you guys didn’t do this sooner
Little hope, big fear
I look at the older brother and just think about how he was that dragon kid in Narnia.
26:11 Yeah I know, I've watched this playthrough before.
YES
IT'S HERE!
Man, i dont know if they are ready
SuperMassive Games are kind of turning into FromSoftware; Make one hit game, and then milk that formula for every following game. Not saying that it's a bad thing per say, but apart from better graphics, it's not like these studios are exactly pushing boundaries in originality.
It's been downhill ever since
On top of that would like to see you also play Resident Evil 8 demo
They have.
Did Alex and Girard nail this before the bus even crashed?
That kid looks exactly that Toy Story bully.
Supermassive must know the WWE intro is really hard to sit through, right?
ngl, I used to get confused with Alex and Mr. Davis.
All im going to say here is I love how dismissive they are about their theorizes...
Just like their wendigo claim all im gonna say...
Is the "intro song" for this game the same intro from Until Dawn? Just in a different style?? Am I crazy???
Phasmophobia, guys! DO IT.
"Break a leg to not burn to death!" Yeah I think a lot of people in her position would have already jumped. That bit was just as off as the dialogue
I love this, but I miss their episodes with their other co-host; EVAN WILLIAMS
Scary Game Squad coming to the rescue for games I kinda want to play but will never actually purchase.
Same! I do hope you play more scary games in the future
Heh, its the opposite for me half the time.
Here for the games I want to support but don't have the nerve to play XD
(I bought amnesia after his playthrough and to this day I haven't gotten to any actual monsters cause I can't muster the nerve to play more than 15 minutes)
Yeah, I can't see myself ever buying this sort of game but I will watch the videos.
same - games like this and Until Dawn I'll never actually buy myself because they don't seem all that fun to play. They're made infinitely more enjoyable with the commentary and banter
@@SythonToTheZ right? and even though jesse, alex, jirard, and davis all seem like goofballs, they're pretty intellectual so you get actual comedy gold with these guys. i love it
I'm very excited to watch the Squad play, but every new installment that comes from this company further convinces me that Until Dawn was lightning in a bottle.
I feel the same way. It seems off.
Until Dawn was something so special and the company cannot seem to replicate it
Agreed, and part of it lies heavily on the big difference between Until Dawn and Dark Pictures Anthology. If they actually had the real monsters involved again, instead of the psychological fake-out stuff, it'd be much better.
one hit wonders is a saying for a reason xp
Until Dawn was also helped by the input from horror director Larry Fessenden, who I believe wrote, produced, and acted in the game, as well as having already directed a decent film called Wendigo. The game also had better, more well known actors. I think it’s less them as game makers, as the technical know how is there, but that they can’t craft as compelling a story on their own.
Yeah the dialogue is... very strange. Not the same feeling of intentional "campiness" I got from Until Dawn
Yeah, that’s intentional in this too.
It was just a prank, Han!!
man of medan was so bad, i hope this manages to get closer to until dawn
@@kingkarlito *Spoiler Alert:* It gets even worse than Man of Medan.
@@CteCrassus It does. That sounds like a joke. It isn't. I'm gonna watch the playthrough of course, but the game is actual shit. Goddamn the story is so fucking bad.
Man yall are the only ones I've seen that immediately was sus about the priest keeping her back
Yeah. Jesse isn’t always right, but when he is it’s usually a pretty solid deep plot point that he sus’s out.
I think because of Jesses background as a teacher he's quick to pick up on things like that that don't seem right for an authoritative figure
@@SythonToTheZ yeah he picked out the teacher in life is strange on the first interaction, Jesse's really primed to notice these plot points when they come up
after you play outlast 2 it’s hard to deprogram
@@ninashelley9108 Well Jesse is also a big spoiler to himself. Jesse & Alex both will get spoilers and then pretend to guess the plot point perfectly before any information even shows up. Life is strange and Until dawn were dead giveaways.
The therapist in until dawn was one of Josh's hallucinations outside of obviously being the game narrator character, he was one of Josh's real therapist but we don't actually see the real Doctor Hill in the game, but you can find files of Josh's prescribtions and medical documents
'Look at this kid's sweater, he's not about to swear'. I don't know why I found that so hysterical but it had me on the floor.
Did no one notice that the bus had "Ferryman" written on the side? As in ferryman of Styx, the river of souls
Oh fuck, and me with no drachma
totally fits their purgatory theory, I actually missed that in other viewings of peeps playthrough
Oh good, I'm glad someone else noticed that
until dawn had blackwood pines Which is a reference to a writer who wrote about wendigos
Cool right
Weird dialogue and bizarrely hostile characters are universal to these games - yet I love let’s plays of them? 😅
Really good games and really bad games are always fun to watch
That's what makes it good; the sloppy game. You're insulated from the unpleasant experience of playing the game because someone else is in control, you're exempt from being mad at the decisions screwing you over because it's not you choosing, and you get not only the game's sloppiness to laugh at but the reactions to the game's sloppiness and four people who have done this long enough to be good at being entertaining together.
Calling this a game is *really* generous.
Actually makes more sense in this one too.
@@loglog7 then how can it be fun
It really weird to me that people confuse Alex and Jirard when I always have a hard time telling Davis and Alex's voices apart.
After years of watching SGS, I cant tell Davis apart from alex or jirard. Like if they are all talking, sure easy but if Davis just says a little remark, no idea.
@@JelzSmellz Davis is high pitched compared to Jirard, but Alex's words are slightly more drawn out in a typical accent than Davis'. Jirard and Alex are the hardest to tell apart because Jirard has Alex's accent too, but Jirard's accent is slightly stronger and his voice is slightly deeper than Alex's, which is higher like Davis.
It's subtle, but once you get that down pat, you never forget them.
I felt the same way when I first started watching/listening!
When I started watching them I also had a hard time telling them apart. So I started watching videos of them at the same time and compared their voices. I literally trained to be able to tell them apart. xD Now some years down the road I'm amazed I couldn't tell them apart cause they don't sound alike to me at all anymore.
David sometimes speaks slower like he's always thinking about what words to say. Alot of small pauses between the words. He also sounds happy, confused and irritated at the same time alot. Sometimes he mumbles his words.
Alex speaks fast and sound like he's always right, sometimes a passive agressive tone, and speaks with confidence. He sounds a bit monoton when he speaks fast sometimes. He also sounds like he's telling a joke. He got that chill "bro" voice.
And Jirard's voice was the first I could tell apart because of his melodic voice, it goes up and down alot, and the cracking in his voice that sometimes happens is easy to hear.
That's how I would describe these lovely boys.
I know Davis and Jesse thats it
It seems like they're building up to something with The Curator. He's alluding to forces greater than himself imposing restrictions on him that he's not happy about. Really interested to see where that goes in the future games. The Curator is a fun interlude already but linking the Anthology together with his own story would take the series to the next level.
Yes, it's very strongly implied the Curator is Death. The song used in the openings is even about him ("Oh I am Death"). Though I'm curious to know what forces he is alluding to in this game...
@@Invalidationcoded It wouldn't surprise me if the Curator is something more like the Death of Discworld; He's got a job to do, and he does it without remorse, but he likes people despite himself, represented in this by giving the characters a chance if the player makes the right decisions.
"Ferryman" on the bus? Subtle...
"there is no US!"
The dark pictures anthology does subtlety like an oil tanker on fire careening into an off-shore platform
Or the girl saying her phone "May as well be dead."? >.>
@@em_birch They're consistent at least, I'll give them that. In Until Dawn I don't think they could beat the butterfly effect into your head any harder if they left a butterfly shaped concussion
@@joaogomes9405 I feel like that's the saving grace for this anthology, honestly. Watching SGS play is the same feeling I'd get watching MST3K. These games have been so hammy and strange, and I can't tell if it's intentional or not.
The dialogue and the way the lines are cut together are both just so fucking weird and inconsistent. I have no idea why these characters are behaving the way they are and their moods seem to change from line to line.
it has all the traits of a dubbed game but as far as I know it’s original language and devs are native english.. really strange
21:15 Havent watched past this point, but I am curious on why Tanya seems helpless. Jump you nut. Its like a 10ft fall at most into snow FFS.
Potential sprain or BURN TO DEATH? Such a tough decis--JUMP, YOU DINGUS!
I'm more shocked at how great she ties her scarf. No way my scarf knots would be able to withstand my weight
Just hold lower yourself on the balcony until you hang on outstretched arms and it's a 3 ft fall.
That's what I said! Also, damn dude, you can just jump down from the attic, it's not the Eiffel tower
@@kildaver Even without jumping, she wouldn’t have burned to death out there. In my playthrough, she went back into the burning house.
I'm with Davis. The dialogue is all sorts of bonkers.
It feels like it was fed through a translator or something. Like I get what they're saying but no one would ever put it that way.
Yeah, it's really...off.
The writing in these games has been steadily getting worse since the first one, and the first one's wasn't stellar to begin with.
I kinda feel like it's on purpose... Replaying events, dialog about stuff that happened in another life?
in terms of pros and cons, I'll say this game has some of the scariest 'things chasing you'. i genuinely think the designs of the 'things chasing you' are much worse than the wendigos. cant wait for your reactions!
Nah, Wendigos were worse.
I like the modifications based on certain things in the intro. I think they’re scarier than the Wendigos until the reveal.
Thanks for the heads-up! Honestly! I'm such a scaredy-cat but I really like their group dynamic so I'll watch but now I know not to pay too close attention to the screen 😅
@@theparadoxrejected what a profound argument.
The graphics are good? but also bad?
Why are they like made of rubber and why is the dude from that one Jennifer Aniston movie in it
"People still don't recognize the difference between alex and my voice, after all these years"
Me who still thinks Jesse works with one multiple personality case: *innocent whistling*
Jesse's really good with voices, you never know
as far as im concerned they are all different heads of the same cerberus dog
I honestly imagine the scary game squad as like a comic relief Hydra.
Isadora Duncan was killed by her scarf getting tangled in a car's wheel, so Tanya getting hanged isn't out of the realm of possibility.
Eeehhhh yes and no.
One of the main reasons that she ended up dead from that was because of what the scarf was made out of. Silk is an insanely strong material, so it not ripping when it got caught in the wheel is what made it deadly.
A cotton scarf caught in a drain snapping a neck? Much more ludicrous.
So was the guy in the bar Tanyas Boyfriend from the beginning? I had that thought while watching but wasnt sure.
SPOILER!! (I guess)

But why did he look so much older...?
@@em_birch there's a pretty good reason for that.
@@miguelnewmexico8641 Yeah, I made that comment before I looked up the ending.
Not sure if the game will have a lot of "slow" moments like that start, but I like the squad talking about info they pick up or see. Jirard and Jesse having completely different reads of Megan's attendance sheet was a neat example of insights you might miss if you're playing alone.
I'm looking forward to their reaction to the ending more than anything else from this extremely mediocre game
Yeah, might skip this one. :) Wasn't a fan of the story.
Its not bad..not great..still they can make everything fun to watch
I'd say it falls short of mediocre by quite a bit.
@@Chaguarr The game itself is perfectly fine as a game, as in it works and looks pretty. But yeah the story is doodoo ass
@@cattolord33 But the story is the driving force whole game XD
I'd say if the gameplay was excellent and story was awful it'd be fine, but this type of game can't do well without a good story. It's not like Overwatch where they don't need a story, it's entirely reliant on it's story.
The story has a great foundation, purely due to what it actually is as revealed in the ending, but the entirety of it beyond that foundation falls short. It doesn't explore what it's trying to adequately and it doesn't even handle characters decently, the dialogue is so bad. So, so bad.
"Let's do this!"
"No."
"But I said let's do this."
"Okay, I agree... no."
not sure if it's the writing, acting, or both but the dialogue in this game is clunky as hell
I agree, it's off. I really liked Until Dawn and I feel like the dialog in that wasn't nearly as bad as the last game and this one.
@@howell2010 Yeah, like if the dialogue in Until Dawn ever felt off it still worked because the whole thing was camp, like a camp tribute to a certain type of slasher, this it just feels a little strange, not that that couldn’t work for this type of thing.
I fully blame the writing.
In this case it could be intentional. It could be a clue.
It is intentional this time.
By the way the you can see the curator in man of medan in the background watching in certain scenes
I like that there are two older people in this story. Should make for interesting relationships between the characters.
11 years this year that I’ve been watching this channel, how wild lol.. I’ve never really cared for WoW’s cataclysm expac but it brought me here and I’m still thoroughly enjoying your content, scary game squad is def one of my favs!
The way Jirard moves the compass is so unsettling.
Oh snap! The band is back together!! Heck yeah!! Loving the new logo design!
SGS love
Hm, so Vince is only responding to Andrew, "there is no us", three darts on the bullseye rather than one...
Minor spoilers:
When you know the reveal those details makes a rewatch so great :)
"There's no god damn us" is that meaning the kid is only talking to the man at the bar because he's the only one left from the crash?
You guys also missed the 3rd Dread X Collection and The Medium, I hope you get around to those in the near future, as well as Little Nightmares 2 and Resident Evil 8 of course.
They will if its sponsored
I think I missed it too lol. Did anyone on UA-cam play it?
And missed playing Song of Horror!
I am SO pumped to resident evil 8 I can't even begin to explain
@Chaosiferus lol damn. maybe i'll find someone, but thanks for the info and kindly taking the time out of your day to reply. I do enjoy it when the players are into the story but when they play the way pewdiepie play (which is not paying attention to story, talking over all the cutscenes while being a hyperactive manchild, and then complaining the story isn't great and also complaining they don't know what is going on) is what drives me nuts lmao
I love that no matter how cheesy a game gets, the SGS can always make it fun.
"To thy own self be true" you hear that player? Be true to YOURSELF
SGS: PLAY THE CHARACTER!
"play the character" is the dumbest fucking thing they've ever come up with.
"It's too dark put on some fucking lights"
House completely in flames.
Me: Is it bright enough for you? :)
7:55 holy FUCK can u say uncanny valley much?!!
The heads move like puppets, but the faces look photoreal.
That is creepy AF. They should have worked more on more subtle natural animations, less is more, because this is freaking me out xD
This game is not great, But These guys can make anything funny. This is what we need right now.
Edit: By mature student they mean a non-trad or nontraditional student. Someone who is going back to school when older.
YEEESSS! Some friends and I coop-ed this game a while back and had a hoot. Super excited for yall's playthrough!
This is probably too late, but "playing the character" isn't exactly the way to go about it (assuming you want the best ending). The characters' traits change according to your choices, not the other way around.
They've been doing this since Until Dawn, I don't think they've gotten it 😂
They change according to choices, but playing to the characters original popup bio is the way to get the best endings. If a character is defined as honest, and you make his stat more dishonest, you change his fate.
@@pandoramercymain8085 I don't remember exactly how the other games worked, but in this one you have to avoid/change their "locked" traits (the ones with a padlock beside them), by making heroic/reassuring choices. The more of those traits the characters have, the more likely it is they will die.
thank u for playing these games with weirdo dialogue and kinda annoying characters so I don't have to. yall the realest
4:16 - Welp, that's it. You know the drill people, they predict it at the beginning and that's how the game ends.
Wendingos?
youll be dissapointed with this one
@@romannavratilid psssstt
Setting yourself up for dissapontment, huh?
Hahaah......nope
Think you guys’ll play the Medium? It’s by the Layers of Fear devs and has an old school adventure game vibe to it. I think you’d dig it. (Also I kinda want a steady stream of SGS in my life. You guys are the best!)
I want theories and I want them always! Can't wait for the good boys to *theorize* ~
I’m going to say that neither the burning house timeline or the crashes bus timeline are real and it’s some kind of simulation experiment
The song in the background at the beginning when the kids are talking about the vinyl is "Witch's Promise" by Jethro Tull. Not very subtle little hope hahaha
To be fair, it was the song in the last one too.
@@Betuor Oh, i'm not talking about the opening sequence song ("Conversation with Death") but there is a song in the background while the dad is half asleep on the chair and the brothers are talking about the album being a "Classic vinyl" and Megan coming and stepping on it.
The turtle-faced character model that looks like a cross between Michael Cera and Will Poulter is the scariest thing about this.
I know the like Narrator intro and him are super cliche and cheesy but god damn do I love it xD
FINALLY! I avoided every other lets play. There is only one god! I mean… four… gods. Whatever. SGS! SGS! SGS!
"im the baby of comedy." OOOOOOOHHH BOY THIS WILL BE GOOD
I just have to say that I love that you've kept the outro with TB, he is missed
26:07 You know somehow I have a hard time believing someone when they tell me there’s nothing to be worried about when Mozart’s Requiem is playing ominously in the background. Just sayin.
I'm surprised the guys didn't pick up anything in the bar scene and figured the entire plot out, honestly.
The only crew i've seen on this site actually look at the char screens and play from there. I expected no less, but my god i'm happy.
Fr though, everybody who play these games never pay attention to the stat screen, nor do people anaylze the collectibles/clues. Only SGS.
The intro was a whole kick to the nuts I don't even have
"The fk is this orc music in the background" had me dying guys jfc
Shit I just found you guys and have been watching through all your SGS series. At least the games that looked interesting and your Until Dawn series was amazing! Was really hoping you would play this one and then all of a sudden you are! Life just works out sometimes!
Alex: "I guarantee you. Bus to purgatory."
Me: Fucking eagle eye over here.
Place your bets how many characters will they get killed in this playthrough?
The average is one per Supermassive game. Bets on who?
But is it Wendigos this time? that's the real question.
I mix up Alex and Davis. Jirard stands out, as does Jesse.
@@DiiAcid Thanks. It just takes too much effort for me to tell them apart, whereas Jesse and Jirard are quite distinct
So early and so excited!!! Can't wait for this and Resi 8 when it comes out!
I've heard not so great things about this game but it's not gonna stop me from enjoying SGS
“There will be more in dlc” I was dying lmao
So happy to see them play this! I think a lot of people skipped it because man of Medan was just okay, but I think this one is much better. Still not as good as until dawn but close.
Its so annoying how they keep obsessing over "play the character".
It might as well just be an AI auto-choosing the choices then. Whats the point?
The entire point of games like these is to choose whatever response and option YOU GUYS feel is the right one in that situation, you're human beings with free will, use it, dont just surrender the entire experience to pre-scripted character bios.
What are you talking about?
They decided to do the play the character method of their own free will. And it isn't like an AI at all. They still have to figure out if the vague choices match up with what they think the character is supposed to be like.
they do that bc "playing the character" is what got you the best ending in until dawn... the one character they didn't have figured out is the only one who died lol. it's rly the smart way to play I think
I'm pretty sure the curator even suggested they should "play the character" right there on the screen, just not in those words.
I honestly get Alex and Davis confused with each other.
Listen to enough Super Beard Bros and that problem goes right away ;)
"We've got to move on" How very specific a sentence to use dood
I love you guys so I will watch anyyything you put out, but after that first installment, I'm so surprised this was requested so much!
YAY! I'm so happy, thank you Scary Game Squad for never failing to brighten our day!
Didn't linguists analyze how words' meanings have changed since Shakespeare's time, and "to thine own self be true" came out to mean "think of yourself first"?
@Gabriel Victor man I cannot place what story that's originally from, but fuck if I dont know the quote word for word from the ending to legally blonde
Scary Game Squad is my light in the dark. I kind of wish I could buy a scary game squad flashlight. I would definitely buy a branded flashlight. Or a lantern with a super bright LED bulb. Or like a projector like those christmas lights but it has the scary game squad dancing or something. you guys need to step up your merch game
I can't stand the Dark Picture Anthology, although you four make it somewhat palatable. I like all of your banter, but the story itself feels sloppy to me, or at least trying and failing to live up to its big brother Until Dawn. I just find these installments dull.
I found myself agreeing with this too sadly. I really loved Until Dawn a lot but everything that proceeded it feels sort of, rushed and unpolished. I hope future ips they make have better production and quality cause I really want to see better from the company. The ideas and stories are there, just not the money or time to make them whole it feels. I'm sure the pandemic could also be a factor as well when it came to this one.
You know, hearing TB in the outro still hits me sometimes...
Calling Adam Warlock, Star Child, I think Jesse was on to something
