i like watching for nemesis thoughts but man do streamer chats give me aids whenever something like this comes out, silvers who can barely replicate an iota of what is happening on their screen half the time spamming riot and 200 years after every sentence uttered with 0 thought. As Skarner Top Main I can say that skarner top is absolutely fine. This rework should work in top too. I can see some E angles on the wall and the ult can make it easier to hit a good E
Honestly this rework looks really great. His strength at this stage will entirely depend on what his numbers are like though, and it does seem like another bruiser that just stacks tenacity and tries to dive squishies all game in the same way a sett or volibear does.
No he actually seems best suited as a protector. He has so many easy to hit spells on divers trying to hit your backline. His w e is also basically undodgable, when you stand in his face. I think he is gonna play a lot like a poppy, but he is probably better with higher range comps, because his Q brings him some neutralgame poke. That also helps other poke champs hit skills, while his lockdown in a poke comp, basically always means a free kill. Poppy is still the better wall for tons of dashes though.

The damage and mobility creep means that the first team to get caught out always loses regardless of their disengage tools. You brought up Poppy interestingly enough. Most Poppys I see spend their time roaming, splitting, and looking to stat-check opponents. She uses her ult to divide the enemy team so they are outnumbered, or for extra burst. Even a champion like Galio, builds full ap and asks teammates to dive for aggressive ults rather than saving it to turn a fight elsewhere on the map.

I really like the rework at first glance. The q is still simple, the w is simple, the e really allows for creative ganks and invades, and the R is still effectively the same but more counterplay against it and aoe utility for Skarner. I like it a lot.
It’s pretty cool. There is SOME skill expression with q skill shot and R , more than a lot of other fighter tanks, so that’s cool. He seems like he will be very viable almost always because his kit has a lot of utility. His ult might be a little too clunky tbh but it’s hard to tell if that’s ok or not given how powerful his other abilities seem to be. It woulda been cool if he can turn enemies around like his live kit does but that might be too broken given the new abilities.
Looks like you will be able to do some pretty satisfying combo's with this. Very straightforward and easy to understand kit but it still leaves room for a little expression of skill. They knocked it out of the park with this one.

The fact that the E is interruptible and when interrupted there is no cooldown refund is criminal. Especially since it looks like there is 20 second cooldown to begin with

Hell no, movement abilities should not be able to be interrupted by silence, it would mess with a lot of champion's kits. Kassadin and Malzahar matchups would become completely unplayable for Asol when half the midlane roster counter him already, imagine putting out Kha's invisibility by Soraka just putting a big AOE under him, or Kayn's wall walk, or if it interrupted dashes. No skill expression, just broken ass cc. The game has enough cc already.

Alot of the skill expression seems to be in FORCING people into bad positions. E ing the into your team or pushing people together to abduct them with R. Making sure not to mindlessly bring them towards your team and potentially make it easier to engage on carries. Making them stay in damaging abilities like Anivia R, Viktor R, Rumble R, etc. Or making them get further CCd in your team "keeping them on Viktor E, putting them in Rell R" letting your team reposition around them as they cant move. Biggest one will be clear speed though IMO. Finding the most optimal pathing using E through walls, getting to scuttle easier and being able to quickly run to the next if enemy JG is behind, and how easily he can clear into ganks that would be tough fir other champs (new top lane) but wont for him because of E.
nemesis mentioning the positioning of the enemy relative to you when you ult being completely useless in a 1v1 is something i hadnt thought of before his ulti feels really nice now because it has counterplay but them getting stuck in the same position means you can't really put them up between you and a wall to force an E. i kinda liked old ult better
You definitely can still put them into a wall, just takes a little bit more thought beforehand. They even show a combo in the video of how you can put people into a wall with it.
7:40 skarner actually suppresses whoever he catches, so i imagine him playing like a kidnapper champ. Charge from wall, take adc and run away then kill adc.

The combo does work, and as someone who has been playing quite a bit of Thresh, I assure you Thresh is fine, just somewhat more difficult than other supports.
What part of this did you watch that makes it look anything like ksante ult? The best part of ksante ult is isolating a target with yourself, now flipped into a DPS threat, this only lets Skarner go over walls. It's more like a nunu snowball with a poppy E attached.
Once you grab a target with E, it can no longer go through a wall. K'sante takes people through walls with him, Skarner can only go through by himself.
as a skarner player, I dont think this will help him. he looks like hes gonna be OP on release then be nerfed into oblivion then forgetton again... which is fine by me... This current patch hes actually insane asf so I can see why they are changing him...
It had better be, its a tank that can go straight through walls with a basic ability. Would be pretty broken if it was not. Granted, it turns about as sharply as new rift herald does, so it isn't too bad if you get good with it.
There are plenty of champs that have CC on all abilites, and two of his abilities are only soft CC anyways. I have seen some skarner gameplay, and he is strong, but not exactly OP mechanically (his numbers probably need some tuning)
I like this version of Skarner so far only exception is his E. It looks soo bad they didn't even come up with any type of excuse why he can just phase through walls. And it's not like this kind of Ability is unique (Kasante, Kain tec.) Ok lemme give some examples on how this weird looking ability could have been made awesome: He could curl up to form a drill with his Claws and Tails and Drill through the walls. Or he just Dig through the walls just like Reksai but the enemy just hears the ground shattering giving them a sign that skarner is coming. that could have been really good. Ok and the last Idea i have is really amazing but that one could also be a Ultimate. but i mean Bard kinda has the same ability as well. When Skarner presses E he stands up on his Tail jumps up and flips in the air to strike the Wall giant Slicing Tail attack to split the wall open like Moses would the Sea and he and his Teammates can go through the wall.
He's a member of the race that gave the people of Ixtal earth magic, he's an extremely powerful geomancer basically. Walking through stone/walls is pretty on brand and in the scope of his abilities.
The only thing i dont care for is the fact that riot is just shoving even more %max hp damage into the game. Its getting old, and it's getting annoying. At this point its almost detrimental for tanks to build ANY hp, as all the hp they build inevitably ends up just healing the enemies more. Everything else looks hot af tho
Well so far as I'm concerned it isnt so bad, because its damage over time, and neither of the three hit %max procs do true damage. One does magic damage, the other does Physical, and the passive %max only scales with level and nothing else. To be completely honest with you, they also didnt really "add more" percent max to the game, since old skarner ALSO had BOTH %max magic AND physical damage already.
As a former skarner otp (before spire rework) I get that they wanted to preserve his old identity with ult but as said in the video it feels cluncky, bad and disconnected from the rest of his kit. I wish they had scrapped the suppression idea entirely. Maybe it could've been a similar channel but it applied a slow and poison effect (like a scorpion) that would deal damage over time. Could even make a combo where you can detonate this ult poison by throwing your q rock and it would deal the rest of the poison damage as true damage for example. Another more tanky idea, maybe ulti could've covered his model in rock which would indicate Skarner gaining bonus armor and magic resist or just damage reduction like alistar for a certain duration. He could then detonate this armor after some time to deal damage like sion w. It would deal more damage These were just off the top of my head but tldr reworked ult just feels like a needles homage to old skarner when it could've been much more. The point of the old ulti was to drag an important carry away from his team but this new ulti is too short and too easily dodged to accomplish that goal. It's basically just a glorified stun.

He is a tank, he pretty much only has Health ratios.

Skarner's ult also allows him to place his enemies in front of walls before using E again to stun them, so it has a bit of self-synergy.
You could also go phase rush and go for q slow ult into w for phase rush if you wanna nab people, looks fun

He feels like he will lay a team up pretty well for a fight. The supress is a big deal too, you cant cleanse that. Should be a very good pick up.
I don't think the ult is worse, its going to have a lot of combo potential with Orianna, Syndra, Rumble, Seraphine, etc

@yurilopes420 you can grab them and then curve the shove really sharply. Even if you are facing parallel to a small wall you can still combo it.

7:40 skarner actually suppresses whoever he catches, so i imagine him playing like a kidnapper champ. Charge from wall, take adc and run away then kill adc.

The combo does work, and as someone who has been playing quite a bit of Thresh, I assure you Thresh is fine, just somewhat more difficult than other supports.

The best part of ksante ult is isolating a target with yourself, now flipped into a DPS threat, this only lets Skarner go over walls.
It's more like a nunu snowball with a poppy E attached.
Once you grab a target with E, it can no longer go through a wall. K'sante takes people through walls with him, Skarner can only go through by himself.
as a skarner player, I dont think this will help him. he looks like hes gonna be OP on release then be nerfed into oblivion then forgetton again... which is fine by me...

It's gonna be way easier to balance this than a version of Skarner that has the crystals. That shit was the real balance nightmare.

It had better be, its a tank that can go straight through walls with a basic ability. Would be pretty broken if it was not. Granted, it turns about as sharply as new rift herald does, so it isn't too bad if you get good with it.
I think it's kinda toxic gameplay, all 4 of his abilities have cc. I hope I'm wrong though, it's a bit too early to judge
There are plenty of champs that have CC on all abilites, and two of his abilities are only soft CC anyways. I have seen some skarner gameplay, and he is strong, but not exactly OP mechanically (his numbers probably need some tuning)

I like this version of Skarner so far only exception is his E. It looks soo bad they didn't even come up with any type of excuse why he can just phase through walls. And it's not like this kind of Ability is unique (Kasante, Kain tec.) Ok lemme give some examples on how this weird looking ability could have been made awesome: He could curl up to form a drill with his Claws and Tails and Drill through the walls. Or he just Dig through the walls just like Reksai but the enemy just hears the ground shattering giving them a sign that skarner is coming. that could have been really good. Ok and the last Idea i have is really amazing but that one could also be a Ultimate. but i mean Bard kinda has the same ability as well. When Skarner presses E he stands up on his Tail jumps up and flips in the air to strike the Wall giant Slicing Tail attack to split the wall open like Moses would the Sea and he and his Teammates can go through the wall.

Walking through stone/walls is pretty on brand and in the scope of his abilities.
The only thing i dont care for is the fact that riot is just shoving even more %max hp damage into the game. Its getting old, and it's getting annoying. At this point its almost detrimental for tanks to build ANY hp, as all the hp they build inevitably ends up just healing the enemies more.

Well so far as I'm concerned it isnt so bad, because its damage over time, and neither of the three hit %max procs do true damage. One does magic damage, the other does Physical, and the passive %max only scales with level and nothing else. To be completely honest with you, they also didnt really "add more" percent max to the game, since old skarner ALSO had BOTH %max magic AND physical damage already.

As a former skarner otp (before spire rework) I get that they wanted to preserve his old identity with ult but as said in the video it feels cluncky, bad and disconnected from the rest of his kit. I wish they had scrapped the suppression idea entirely.
Maybe it could've been a similar channel but it applied a slow and poison effect (like a scorpion) that would deal damage over time. Could even make a combo where you can detonate this ult poison by throwing your q rock and it would deal the rest of the poison damage as true damage for example.
Another more tanky idea, maybe ulti could've covered his model in rock which would indicate Skarner gaining bonus armor and magic resist or just damage reduction like alistar for a certain duration. He could then detonate this armor after some time to deal damage like sion w. It would deal more damage
These were just off the top of my head but tldr reworked ult just feels like a needles homage to old skarner when it could've been much more. The point of the old ulti was to drag an important carry away from his team but this new ulti is too short and too easily dodged to accomplish that goal. It's basically just a glorified stun.
