A glaring difference between Farhan and Buster is that Buster played and understands what tools a player carries compared to a man who never played and looks on paper for the tools.
What went wrong is this: largely because he never played the game, he as awful at evaluating talent. And because he couldn't recognize or value all the different levels of talent that exist in players out there, his philosophy of 'winning at the margins' thinks of the difference maker not being talent, but the situation or platoon. And the reality is, the difference IS talent, not the platoon or situation advantage. It's ok to incorporate winning at the margins into your philosophy as a side benefit, but it can't be the foundation. You'll never win a championship like that. And Farhan had this winning at the margins stuff as his foundation. Which makes sense if you're not strong at evaluating talent, but it doesn't work. You must have someone in that job whose STRENGTH is evaluating talent, not someone whose strength is roster churning and dumpster diving.
Brian Sabean grew up in New Hampshire. The difference was Dungeons and Dragons nerd had ZERO people skills. His lack of intelligence on dealing with baseball players was his biggest downfall.
@@dreambigdoc ownership group was bedazzled by the Nerd's slide rule magic and greedy - they thought they could save a few bucks by allowing the "wizard" to play the margins with dumpster dives. The ordeal for Giant fans is over. In my opinion Buster will be the Jerry West of the baseball world.
Farhan might have a high IQ. But he has zero emotional awareness. And no understanding of the unwritten social contract between a team and its fans. Beyond analytics is heart, love for the game, and pride in your community. His frequent denigrating comments about San Francisco (whether true or not) were extremely ill-advised. You will never hear a Bob Myers or John Lynch talk down the Bay Area. Or their fans. Ever. Because it is counterproductive. The team is the city. The city is the team.
You are going to like the match Haniger signing. Farhan is "so smart ,,, MIT grad." Never grew up watching or playing baseball - stupid ownership turned over our team the team we grew up with to this clown.
Farhan could find talent, but it's SF, they have money. Bay area and tech/start up. Get some big Dawgs, not scrap heap project guys. Sabean was a great GM.
Farhan Zaidi has failed upwards his entire career. He never played the game of baseball at any level. He was not qualified to work in baseball opperations for any team at any level. Larry Baer should be fired for bringing Farhan to the giants. The only explaination is that the Giants wanted to lose. It coincides with the condominium project. Must habe been a nice tax rite off for the billionaire.
Larry Baer got straight up SNOOKERED by FartHand. Why oh why oh why would you hire someone that your rival LA does not want?? What a disgraceful era in SF
Farhan was just a reflection of the owners. The owners should get heat too! The Giants played 500 ball for 6 years. Yet the franchise value grew. Don't fall for it!
No, there was a record setting year in the middle. That bought Farhan too much goodwill, but ownership is serious about winning and Farhan wasn't getting the job done
The Trades the Trades the Trades we should go through each one OMG fantasy players could have done better thanks blaming the city on losing in free agency
Never liked the hire, didn’t think he was anything special, also he looked like he couldn’t even throw a baseball… also stats as god morons make mediocre teams (there needs to be some human element to evaluating players, because the stats dork made a crappy unwatchable team (and 2021 was a huge fluke)
People pointed to Farhan’s accomplishments in LA and Oakland but he was never in charge.

He couldn't even dumpster dive right. They were HORRIBLE!
@@mayhemjr.803 Agreed. It was ridiculous.
Well said. Totally agree.
Farhan: did not grow up with baseball OR in San Francisco area. Crime to allow him ti run our team.

I sure hope so! I really do. I know his baseball IQ is what you’re basing your opinion on. I hope you’re right.
@@dreambigdoc attention to detail + baseball instincts + common sense, I think Farhan lacked the last two
Why did he never throw out the first pitch? Oh that's right... he doesn't know how to throw a baseball
Baer might say Farhan loves scouting, but he's absolutely terrible at it. Has no clue what he's looking at.
Fantasy king does not equal GM that was the ultimate experience
An understatement
Farhan sucked at everything look at the state of our farm system
It’s always rosey

Nobody wants to play for the Giants. No major FA signing since Bonds. Sabean developed home grown talent and traded assets.
