This is a little 2-day road trip beginning in Wichita then heading north then west. I stayed the night in Oakley before heading south and east back home. Kansas has a lot of interesting and beautiful places that not everyone knows about!

Love old cemeteries. I take a roll of pennies. When I find a Veteran, I leave one on the tombstone, let's the Soldiers family know:
    Penny: You visited the Vet
Nickel: Served With Soldier in Boot camp.
Dime: You served with the deceased in some capacity.
Quarter: You were with the soldier when they made the ultimate sacrifice.

About 10 years ago, I stumbled into a main street parade in Sedan, KS. I just got to a stop light , turned left and found that I had inserted my self into a parade. I just waved at the people on the streets till I was able to break out and head to Howard.

Several buddies and I did the same thing in South Dakota. Headed southwest out of Sturgis several weeks after the big bash, and road into Deadwood. And as you, right into the parade route just as they were about to start the show. We are started waving to the crowd on both sides of the street, and everyone was waving back! Of course we had that one comedian in the group who had to remark about how remarkable it was for everyone to come out and welcome us to town! It is sort of embarrassing at first, but became good fun fast.

So cool the way you said Kansas has its own beauty. That's exactly what my Dad said while we were driving to Pueblo via a one week stop in Dodge. The year was 1971 and I was in the back seat of Dad's '65 Rambler with no air conditioner. How Can You Mend A Broken Heart was #1 I think, I know they played it a lot. Anyway as a 10 year old kid I was looking for scenery and said something to the effect of how boring it was when Dad said every place has its own beauty. I've never looked at the world the same way since. I look for the beauty and the fact of how much we should appreciate all the wonderful scenery we are blessed with. Thanks again for making these awesome videos!

Not being from Kansas, I didn’t immediately see the beauty, but over time I have definitely fallen in love with it! I love the wide open spaces of the west and the Flint Hills in the middle part of the state. Your dad sounds like a cool guy! 😊

Thank u, kind, gracious Sir. My life goal has always been to tour every county in KS. I'm partially retired and my Kia Soul is giving out. So u r making my dream come true. I was born in KS in 1961 on the centenary anniversary of KS becoming a state. I too love KS. Thank u. And I don't have the guts to travel dirt/sand roads. That scares me. You do that for me. I'm in your passenger seat. TWA: Travel With Angels. They are free, excellent help. That's their job to protect us.

Kansas as a State is very underrated.. first it's not flat... Very much alot of hills.. The Flint Hills scenic hwy up thru Alma, Wamego, Westmoreland, Onaga.. very beautiful ride. Coming from a native Kansas City Missourian.

Thanks for this John. I was watching your interview with the "Random guys" a few days ago and started wondering if you had done anything on central Kansas small towns of Lindsborg and Salina, as well as southeast South Dakota -- both of which my lovely bride and I plan to visit next month. I did a quick word search on your videos and, BINGO, this one came up. Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks again. I'll continue looking for others on our intended route.

Not trying to give you a hard time because I've been really enjoying your videos. I grew up in Kansas and travel Kansas as a tourist quite often. Lake Scott is where you went but you title it lake Ft Scott. I have been to both lakes and they are on opposite ends of the state.
I was born in Marysville, when I was a preteen we moved to Emporia, I went to school in Pittsburg.
