I recommend to slide all initiative dice to the bottom of the init track at the start of each round, and then move them one by turn to the top - this way you will not forget whose turn it is currently
Yep! I actually do this when playing normally....but filming a playthrough I always end up doing things a bit differently because of the camera pressure :)
This is what I was thinking as well. Since the shield dice go into the active area, he would not be able to play all the other dice as well as shield dice since there are only 3 active slots.
Thanks for uploading this. It's really easy to see why this game gets so much love. I wonder if its a game best suited for solo than having it played with others after seeing how much fun you were having playing it solo.
I actually don't know what I would choose as far as preferring solo vs with others. Both offer a different experience. I'll say I play it more solo, but that's more because I always have me around :) I don't always have others around.
@@BoardGameCo Thanks for the reply. Totally understand. It does look like a fun solo experience and it will be something I will enjoy....I also do enjoy being able to play something like TMB with a 2 other good friends. The brutality of the game is awesome.
Thanks for the play-through. Just got this @ Origins and it has become my favorite game. Ordered everything I was missing from the web store over the next few weeks. Actually bought this a few minutes after running into Jesse. As I was leaving I saw you two standing over at CTG, but didn’t make it back over there to meet you. Maybe next year!
You're brave taking on TMB on video where we can all see your rules mistakes! Honestly, you did a great job, but the one that might have swung the battle is (at about 32:00) the ranged hardy / compound kobold tracker... hardy means that baddie only takes 1 damage per turn, not per attack. It can only take 1 total damage on Tantrum's turn so Tantrum couldn't have taken it out in one turn. That was the only one , not 17 lol!, that I noticed that you didn't catch.
Very impressive playthrough! I play TMB with one gearloc cause my brain cannot take more than this. And you play Tantrum and Stanza live on your channel! I have no words. Our family appreciate a lot! Thanks!
I keep wisely going "this is too overwrought and expensive", then I start seeing more stuff and going "well maybe I can just get the stand alone games and a couple add-ons". $250 cart with 40 Waves and an additional character with Undertow and Unbreakable...
OMG! Me too! I was going for the basis bundle... then, only unbreakable.... and maybe Undertow (4 gearlocs, 2 maps, etc.). One thing that bothers me a bit is the lack of position strategy where Undertow (side entries) and Unbreakable (Obstacle) might be interesting.....
On this encounter you should add a 1pt baddy for every 5 hp or more baddy that is revealed, not a 5 pt baddy or more! (Anyway it wouldn’t change this time because both had more than 5 hp and the 1 pt baddy had less)
What are your favoritest Gearlocs? Since I'm getting into this game, and mainly will be playing solo (two-handed?). I heard someone say Ghillie and Tink are cool.
Thanks for the playthrough Alex! I've just recently begun playin TMB (Undertow) and this actually helped me out a lot, since the combat system can be quite complex. One question that still remains is what happens if you get beyond round 6 and everyone (heroes and baddies) dies from the true damage inflicted at the start of the round, is that considered a win or a loss? Or is it based on turn order, ie who dies first from the true damage taken?
@@BoardGameCo Of course it happened to me the very first time I played TMB :-) Maybe someone else in the comments know the answer. Regardless I quite enjoy the game, and will probably like it even more with subsequent plays.
My understanding is different, so I think you lost, unfortunately. The Fatigue damage in round 6 onwards happens at the start of the ROUND, not the start of the TURN, so turn order is irrelevant- it affects everyone at the same time. Sorry!
Great playthrough. It was fun to see you run with 0 additional points in HP. The expression on your face at the start of battle and halfway through is the exact same one I have--how am I going to survive this battle. I think baddies will move toward their target (if they're not already engaged) even if they won't be in attack range at the end of their move. In this playthrough, I don't think it mattered because the baddie died on the next turn anyway, but just FYI. Others already mentioned Hardy.
So there is the base game, Too Many Bones, 40 days, and Tyranny (that needs to be played with base game) and then Undertow that is either standalone or can be combined with the base, then several new characters? I'm seeing this everything, but have never heard of it. Looks amazing, but damn it's expensive. Trying to see what needs to be purchased so maybe I can afford some of it.
Honestly, I think base game is plenty. Maybe get one or two more characters. You can always get more later if you need to. It's an amazing game, but I have 20 plus plays into my belt, and I've only ever used the base game plus undertow
Maybe take a close look at "Hardy" again and how it works... It says any Turn this unit takes damage not any time... So my understanding of this is you can't hit it with an Axe for 1 Damage then move and Attack it for another damage in the same turn as the total damage in a turn is reduced to 1.
Thanks for the play through- that was awesome! What would you say the sweet spot is for the player count of TMB? Also, what are your thoughts on the Trove Chest? I am considering pledging for it (in addition to Unbreakable) since it seems like it may be hard to come by after the current campaign…
The Trove Chest is likely the best TMB purchase I've made (I've got it all except the Crit BGG Promo Dice). It makes setup and tear-down about 3X as quick. Keeps everything organized and easy to find. I was lucky, got it for $80 or whatever on the initial launch, but would pay $150 for it. So far as player count, I like solo. 2 is alright, 3-4 depends on gaming experience. New or inexperienced players can slow the game a lot. Experienced 3-4 is fun.
@@jazepi thanks, that’s really helpful! I think I’ll stick with the Trove Chest pledge then =) When you play solo, do you generally use one or two characters?
When placing the Initiative dice, the 2nd 5 that came out should have gone after the first (order breaks tie on initiative for baddies). (Or maybe the camera shot was the other way, but it looked like you put 2 above 1).
@@BoardGameCo yeah I just wanted to make sure I wasnt doing that wrong. My wife tends to play with characters that make use of active/locked, so it would change the way she plays.
It's interesting that you didn't spend any training points on health. Is that how you usually play? I'm just learning the game, but the character sheets generally recommend increasing health early on.
Not sure if it is appropriate (please remove if needed) to ask here but where does one get a mat and dice for Stanza? I see a chip in the promo pack and a couple of attack dice but can't find the other items.
Figured as much but didn't see the names of grealocks included in the description. I now see it in pictures of box content. Guess I'm getting Undertow!

Thank you for the TMB playthrough with Tantrum and Stanza! If I may request: future playthroughs be edited to 95% game shots and 5% You. No offense, but we see you frequently enough (that’s a good thing). A second camera on the mat would be great. And because I can’t follow along easily if shots are cutting back and forth. If you let us study the Battle and Gearlocs’ mats, then we can sofa-play. And please stop complaining about the game. The more you look up the rules, the better you are going to be. The rules make sense thematically, and the rule books are made sturdy enough for frequent use (ask me how I know 😉). Please do more TMB playthroughs!
