If I could run a business,I know it would be productive because I care about people and would want to help them. I believe they the deep state did this on purpose so we have no economy. You know it's pretty bad when they pick on Amish farmers.

Sounds nice to make our own stuff, but we threw that away lonnnnng ago. Now we are all surviving on extremely low prices due to foreign slave labor, and we sorta like it this way. We're never going back to quality first, worry about the price later. We'd all be homeless if we did that. Dude, we threw it all away already. It's over. We are now between a rock and a hard place, as predicted, as planned. Tinkering now is not going to solve Jack Squat and there will be blowback as two can play this game, the tariff game. Whatever we export, which produces American jobs, just wait, it will get blown back by retribution.

@zeppelinmexicano I don't think it was expensive when I was growing up, even with locally grown food. The first time I voted it was for Ronald Reagan. He cut taxes in CA and CA flourished. CA used to produce 20 percent of the world's produce I believe. If the government, who don't seem to govern anything, since they are constantly attacking us, would take their foot off our necks, I have no doubt Americans could fix it themselves. You need good people to lead a good country, and we don't have good people in charge. In fact, We might be facing judgment from the Almighty, but, as for me, I will keep doing good while I can.

What the vast number of Americans do not realize is that the price gouging is occurring in the U.S., not in China when it comes to goods imported from China. Retailers in the U.S. such as Walmart are buying for instance ironing boards from China for $1.29 each and then turning around and selling them for $29.99. This is why the members of the Walton family are all each mega-billionaires (their combined wealth exceeds $340 billion). And when it comes to tariffs, the more that are put in place on Chinese goods, the more plants that China erects just across our border in Mexico. It is a losing battle. Look at how Chinese EVs are flooding into Mexico, which is a harbinger of how these Chinese vehicles will all end up being built in huge plants in Mexico to be exported into the U.S. and then subsequently put all U.S. automakers out of business by 2030.

Plenty of people shop at Walmart. 80%+ of the goods they sell are from China. China manufacturers 'cheap crap' because that is what Americans wanted to buy. China had a for a few years "trade mark" products of luxury and superior goods. But the disposable American market rejected them. But now China is making good products at cheap costs. That is making US/EU/UK fearful of their reduced living standards and low pay jobs which will likely be the future.
25 years ago I bought 2 sets of sheets. I wash my sheets every week alternating their use. Now more than 2 decades later, I'm still using the same sheets. And every night I feel I'm slipping into silk sheets of the finest cotton. Not a mark or stain on them. Because of their quality stains just washes right out. Certainly I paid more for them, but quality lasts and is cheaper in the end. Don't blame China for suppying Americans the goods they want to buy coupled with US leaders who spend money on military bases and wars rather than research and development of new products and processes which create higher paying jobs.

What would happen? USA would have fewer and fewer trading partners. Thus food, pharmaceutical and household goods would be in short supply. USA has too much debt to be able to fund all the start up manufacturing which would be needed to keep up the supply and still be able to transport the goods to markets. It worked in the past, because USA was developing and spending their money on productive jobs. Now, USA has allowed those plants to decay and are relying on offshore companies to mfg. the goods at a cheaper cost.
Right now personal income taxes, don't cover the costs for education, social security promises, medicare/medicade, and infrastructure. That and other reasons are why there is so much debt. Leaders keep promising more, and they have no money, so they borrow from other nations, to keep up the American standard of living. Tariffs penalize buyers. Lower income taxes will currently result in lower standard of living. The debt has to be paid off. The US needs to make major cuts to government and put that money into research, development and new products for home and exports which will create new jobs. If they don't, we can expect a decade or two of increasing inflation.

Corporations move to where profits (shareholder value) increase. Worker wages and health and safety measures make products too expensive for Americans and trading partners to buy. Jobs can only stay in USA if they improve productivity. USA plants and infrastructure are old and not maintained. It is too expensive to make most of those repairs. US needs to develop products where they are inventors, not manufacturers. More than 3/4 of the world population are able to do manufacturing jobs. The future jobs for USA must be research, development and invention.... Thus the education system must change to enable more students to excel and be able to afford to graduate with STEM degrees. Otherwise Americans will become a workforce of minimum paid employees with low living standards.

Millions of people are already facing unaffordability and what comes after tariffs will be what? It's going to be a bloodbath. Look at the FL condo owners screaming to sell and nobody is buying. This is bad. The thing I think about is how few Americans even want EVs any more so I'm not sure that tariffs on them does much to create jobs. What would create jobs is to go back to a quality model for creating the best pickups and cars available - like ICE vehicles. EVs are a loser and that means lost jobs. This whole thing of tariffs on EVs is going to turn out to be rearranging deck chairs while Shelly Winters drowns tow decks down. Believe me, we are already going down.

Well if USA did that, then Americans would be sitting, nude on the street curb. Most of their products are imported and thus if they are banned, then there is nothing to buy. USA has no money to start manufacturing all the products and supply all the food necessary. And the USA needs to pay off their debt... So if you don't trade where are you going to get the money to pay those nations which loaned US the money?

Tariffs are punishment and protection by definition. The Chinese are dumping EVs all over the world. There’s plenty of information that shows they have been stockpiling EVs for over a year.. (See China Fact Checkers for info and video). The US public isn’t buying EVs. All the majors have either curtailed or quit making them - including Tesla. So where’s the harm to US purchasers. If the loss of a cheap, dangerous and ineffectual Chinese EV is a major pain, I suspect the Feds will get a phone call.

I think if they raised tariffs in China, it would not matter much in prices of US goods, but it would raise Chinese made goods kinda like the dollar tree almost going to business. They’re stock dropping 30% this month. Most things in that store is $1.25 if people can’t afford $1.25 for things then it wouldn’t matter if it’s $1.40 or dollar 50 they can’t afford it.

Difficult subject, less trade around the world has multiple effects. Even though one would think getting things made in America would help, the transition from made over there to made over here will be slow and painful. The pain will be a long recession. Then the National Debt issue: how do you service it while tax revenues fall! Other nations will raise their tariffs and buy less from the US . A little history may help here: SMOTT-HARLEY TARIFFS from 1930 and the lesser known: FORDNEY-McCUMBER TARIFFS OF 1922. Do you remember what followed these? THE GREAT DEPRESSION! Oh yah, it's different this time!!!!!!

Tariffs are a good thing, but not when a bully is forcing somebody to use the dollar. And the bully is the United States of america. Tariffs or a good thing to encourage Manufacturing in the United States of america. Tariffs are a better way to collect taxes from the American people instead of taking it directly from their check. Give the American people all of their money that they work for with no deductions. And let them pay their taxes through tariffs and other taxes on Goods to discourage them from buying stuff from overseas. If you don't understand this. Do some research on this. and think about it. Do you really want taxes coming out of your check every week or two weeks. Or would you rather pay taxes voluntarily by buying goods and services that you want to buy. Think about it. These people in Washington DC have no brains. So they are not thinking in your best interest . they are screwing you.

We are being cut by a double edge sword. I agree with tariffs to increase long term domestic production but we also need to protect domestic R&D advancements. There should severe penalties for Corp's. that allow intellectual advancements be shared with any foreign power. Especially China. A benefit of Corp's. is the ability to fund large R&D projects. Something smaller company's cannot afford. But large Corp's have significant drawbacks as well... excessive power, greed, greed and more greed... shareholders, greed... which you cannot regulate or control!

Tariffs just aimed at electric vehicles is not a good idea. Tariffs should be equal for everything. Not just one specific product to protect the corrupt automobile manufacturing industry. I hope you see what I'm saying. Tariffs should be the same percentage on everything from anywhere in the world. I hope you understand what I'm saying. If you buy a watermelon from Mexico it should be the same amount of tariff as if you would buy a electric vehicle from china. Otherwise you're just discriminating against different countries for different reasons. It should all be equal percentage for all products. I don't see why people don't understand this. And this would be a better alternative to the income tax that's taken directly from your check right now. Think about it. Wouldn't you rather decide where your taxes go instead of letting the government forcefully take it from your check every week or two. Stop letting the government force you to do things. The government is evil. They don't have your interests in mind.

Tariffs make a product cost more to the consumer. Us. If we can make the same product at the same price, then it makes sense. But boasting about punishing China with a tariff is doing us no good. We can pay more for an identical product made in the USA, but if we pay more just to brag about producing it, what good does that do for the everyday consumer here. We just pay more. It may create jobs, but the consumer is subsidizing those jobs by paying extra money that we didn't pay when we bought it from China.

tariffs only pop up when the fractional reserve debt money system is in shrink mode and money is vanishing from existence as debt gets paid back or defaulted on. they breed distrust between people and screw up supply lines making it harder to make money. now in the crypto age we should be able to have a system where 60-70% of money is like digital gold and non-fractional reserve. and the rest could be speculatory money where you only get paid if you crease something of value that solves a problem. now we have people creating trillions of dollars out of thin air by taking out loans in a boom period and then they disappear in a bust period as the exponential expansion shrinks exponentially.
