    More to the point...can paying more than $2 really be justified? I have numerous Cheap Chinese pens of all makes and am yet to find a bad one. Yes, I do have far more expensive pens- Waterman, Parker, Lamy etc etc- and have used Mont Blanc, but, in my experience I have found that price is absolutely no guide to writing experience or build quality.

    Finally got one. Longer than I was expecting. Fine enough that it does well on cheap paper, so I carry it to work with me now. Excellent value. I have grown very fond of it.

    I love using this pen for sketching. It is slim like a pencil with the advantage of producing an ink drawing. Thanks for the review.

    I bought two of these and both are still good writers after several months of use. I'd agree with James' complimentary comments. The clip is sturdy and sprung, the workmanship is spot on-everything is smooth and fits together really well-and the pen suits anyone who dislikes a heavy writing instrument. You won't crack it if you drop it! The value for money is amazing; Platignum sold a similar hooded-nib design in the '60s (popular with us British schoolboys) but not as well made as this 911... and probably pricier even in those days.

    I got this because of your review. Thanks! I'm having a hard time writing with it, though. Not used to hooded nibs. Surprisingly, it's easier to use this on a cheaper notebook. On Rhodia, it has a very specific sweet spot that makes it a pain in the ass to use. Just my experience.

    The 911 is modelled on the parker 61 the jinhao 51a is of course modelled on the 51 . The 51 and 61 do offer a different experience. The jinhao people have got these 2 down pat great review.

    I love this pen. All round amazing value. I do have a concern. How do you clean it? I know it's a hooded nib pen and for that very reason I have not attempted to take the pen apart and give it a thorough flush clean. I typically do this with all my other fountain pens after I have been using them for a while before moving on to another.
    My questions are: 1. Can you take the jinhao 911 hooded nib apart? 2. Should we clean it that way? 3. Is it just one of the pens where you just flush it leaving all pieces in place?
    Thank you in advance.

    • @JG3Reviews
      @JG3Reviews  3 роки тому +2

      I've never removed the hood on mine. Jinhao tends to glue their hooded feeds together. You can heat it in hot water, but I've not done that because too hot or too long and plastic feeds can be damaged (ask me how I know...ha!). I just use a pen flush if it needs heavy duty cleaning, or room temperature water flush and soak otherwise and have had no problems with this or the 51a (very similar set up).

    Amazing pen. I bought this pen and its an amazing writing instrument. However, the pen is a bit heavy when compared to other pens that I have (I mostly have plastic fountain pens). It cost me INR 350, close to $4.5 from a reseller in India.

    This is an amazing little pen. I own several copies of this gem. I played a little game called "Which One Will Get Here First?". It's a fun game but one that you wouldn't be tempted to play with a Montblanc, lemme tell ya. :D
    I bought three 911s from AliExpress: one shipped from France, another from the Czech Republic and a third from China. I'm in Belgium. Can you guess which one got here first?

    • @JG3Reviews
      @JG3Reviews  3 роки тому +1

      I’m playing that game now with a Lamy Aion I ordered in April from the Netherlands. So far a Jinhao from China and a Franklin-Christoph from the US have both won the race handily (the F-C was ordered Friday and is already here).

      @darkchocolate4643 3 роки тому +2

      @@JG3Reviews If you ordered the Lamy from a Dutch site that I won't name (but is usually abbreviated with 4 letters), that's hardly a contest. They give sleep-deprived sloths crawling through thick molasses a run for their money. :D :D :D
      (it took them 9 weeks to ship my pen. Granted, it wasn't in stock at the time of purchase, but it did say that it would be "in 2 to 5 working days"... )

    I quite like the 911. I generally prefer the 51A but the 911 is none too shabby. If I could find a 51A with a brushed steel barrel then that would relegate the 911 to the bottom drawer pile. I prefer the slightly thicker section of the 51A - I have some issues with grip and fine motor control, making pens such as the Vector a little too thin and slippery. The 911 seems to get away with it though. While slender, the plastic section feels less slippery, almost as if it is rubberised. Not quite sure what, but I can control this one OK. Ultimately the price makes it a bargain.

    How do you like the 911 compared to the 51a? They're definitely in the same retro design camp. Do you prefer the metal body of the 911 or the plastic one of the 51a?

    • @JG3inTX
      @JG3inTX 4 роки тому +2

      They write similarly, too, as you'd expect. I probably favor the 51a, both for the variety of colors and materials and the slightly larger diameter. But the 911 is a great writer, and I probably use it just as often.

      I'm not familiar with the Frontier, so I can't really say. It compares well against the Jotter, though (although I really enjoy the Jotter's medium nib, which is not available in the 911). One nice thing about the 911 is that you can see if it's a good fit without being out nearly as much $.

    What is the difference between 51A and this one?

    • @JG3Reviews
      @JG3Reviews  4 роки тому +2

      I believe the nibs are identical, but the pen body and sections of the 911 are slightly longer and narrower than the 51a, and of course the 911 is stainless steel vs. plastic, resin, or wood in the 51a.

    There are FAR superior Chinese pens at the same price-point ... So it would be good if you would spend more time to test out the reliability of such pens ... Your reviews would then be far more trustworthy!!
