On the flagged issue, I think they should hire 10-12 full time flaggers to man the dangerous jumps and the voluntary flaggers work the areas of less risk.
I like the idea of doubling the flaggers on the jumps, 1 blue and 1 yellow. The blue flagger can act as an extra yellow until riders start being lapped. I think the radios, like most added tech, would be detrimental to the nature of the sport. This is motocross, not a nerf war. By riding you must accept that things can happen. He had a bad race, oh what's wrong with him, we can beat him now cause he only came back from 15 seconds and beat my ass by 3 seconds. Jonny you as a rider should know to not think this stupid crap. Can't believe you're using it as a conversation piece.
It's hilarious. Haiden has come from 10+ seconds behind three times now and tore away the wins from these dudes. He didn't looks great moto 2 but I still think Tom and maybe masterpool would have been in trouble if he didn't hit the bike. Hard to tell because he has dropped ten second gaps in two laps twice this year.

You guys really put together a great show today. The volunteer flagger system definitely needs to be addressed. The riders at this level deserve a better system, for sure. I'm not a fan of giving the riders any type of radio communication. However, professional, properly trained flaggers on a radio system could add a higher level of safety. As well as a higher level of consistency and efficiency to the flagging.
The warning lights issue is the best idea so far. Quick and efficient. It's a dangerous sport. Gnarly. Shit happens. STRENGTH, SKILL, STMINA, and COURAGE = MOTOCROSS. Suq it up. But, we could be better and smarter. FLAGGERS = $$$$. See a problem?
I like the referee with the radio and you could put large numbers on the side of the track for the riders to see. Flaggers could have radios to communicate with the referee.
I think going to the 4-strokes caused the biggest hit to amateur and privateer racing. As the economy faltered, the costs also surged as the 4-strokes advanced. Looking back when I raced my '95 RM250 then my '98 YZ250 2-stroke compared to what it would cost me to run a new YZ250F or 450F....I couldn't do it nowadays. ...and I work at a Yamaha dealership 😂
Yes, I wanted to race all my life but have struggled to afford to. I haven't raced since the 1990’s 100% because of finances. I'm in my 40s now but still healthy enough to race, but I simply can't afford to. Imo some 125 only classes as in A,B,C classes that don't allow 250f's would help. And even some slower classes like 150 air cooled would help Slow ✔️ still fun ✔️
The sports more bothered by lappers and blue flags than waved yellows also all jumps should have proper qualified flaggers on them on blind jumps should have 2 people
This is what happens when you fill the gate with 35 backmarkers that will be causing havoc and obstructing the 5 riders that are competitive, lapping up to 15th is a embarrassment to the series
Hopper, you don't have to live life without motorcycles. Even if you never throw a leg over a motocross bike again. There's almost endless different disciplines of riding and they all give you the same moto feelings
Ryno had a great idea. Have separate blue flaggers throughout the track who focus on flagging lappers. Yellow flaggers are on jump faces to signal their jump. It is easy to wave the flag and guide riders away from the downed rider by using the opposite hand to motion them in either direction.
Don't need 2 flaggers, don't need lights. Yes they should have professional flaggers that travel the series. When they had a crash, the priority after the crash isn't the blue flag anymore, it's the yellow and the flagger should've been motioning to the safe side to jump.
The sport has a lot more issues with slow riders during qualifying and racing then flaggers. A lot of people say that privateers are the backbone of the sport but unfortunately are on their way out more and more each year. Not so much because of entry fees and cost of living like Ryno says. They can't even afford to have competitive bikes especially at the 250 level. We are the only sport that tries to mix two extreme ability levels on the same track or field. There are a bunch more professional teams coming in that even lessons the opportunities. Now is there a place for them? Sure! Make a stock class for them. It makes it very affordable for them to ride in and can still be competitive and demonstrate their riding ability to move up. That's the way it works for almost any other professional level sport.
Time for a “B” main for the riders off the fast qualifying pace by say 3-4 seconds. 3 riders transfer to the main. It’s better to have 15-20 capable riders on the gate than 5 top riders fighting for points and 35 backmarkers causing havoc and possibly influencing the race outcome. Lapping 25 slower backmarkers up to 15th place is a joke in a top professional series.
The radio in the ear is a great option! It doesn't mean it will fix everything and accidents will still happen but it is a good way to mitigate some of it!
The idea of having separate blue flaggers and yellow/red cross flaggers could be tried with the volunteers. It would be a step forward. Additionally, having 2 yellow flaggers on blind jumps should be a thing. If the take off flagger cannot see the landing area then a second signal flagger should be at the landing to flag/signal to the take off. If blue and yellow are separated the blue flagger should be moved to different positions than yellow/red cross flaggers.
For simplicity, why not add an LED light strip to the inside of the goggle frame. Then everybody can continue to use the goggle of their choice. The lens of their choice with a minimal cost. LED light strips are under a few dollars with an additional dollar for double-sided stick tape
So out of every single Moto this season in Motocross the one motto the he finishes out of the top two you want to say there's blood in the water, come on man
I used to be a member of the Southern Maryland Dirt Riders and flagged multiple times at Budd's Creek. I flagged nationals as well as an MXGP, when it was there as well. In the club we had a training course on how to flag and we were organized. There are two types of flaggers. AMA Staff and Safety flaggers. The flagger that was waving the blue flag was AMA staff and not a safety flagger. There should have been a safety flagger in the same location facing the landing. The AMA staff is there just for lappers, red cross flags etc....
Hopper - can you take the click bait down one notch? I’ll try to promote for you. I know you need more followers, too aggressive of click bait turns people off also.

Ryno, don't change (I doubt you will)
Johnny is regards to the Deegan/bike crash…… rewatch the video….. flagger blue flag out…… then he notices the wreck of other rider….. then turns around walks a few paces backward and picks up a yellow flag…… I’m curious to know two things…… 1.) did the flagger only have one flag in is hand (blue) when he should have had both blue and yellow In His hands at all times…… also it’s my understanding that the flaggers are wearing headphones while getting signals that lappers are coming and can’t hear a bike panic rev? Just some thoughts brother love the show!!!
How about you actually watch what happened before making stupid comments hopper? The flaggers are to blame here 100%! Are you too scared to admit that ?
@@channel1_channel I know it sounds out there, but thinking about the angle, and the cost, it sounds doable to me. Like a rear view mirror. Doesn't sound too difficult to me.
@@Ranger_Dog311 Any rider could have really gotten hurt hitting a downed bike on a blind jump so I dont find it funny, no, Im not high, Im looking for an easy solution for riders to be able to see the landings on the blind jumps. They already have a banner over most of them, so adding a mirror is not exactly a hard to do solution. Sometimes, the obvious solution is the easiest solution and whether or not you agree is not important to me. Those in the know can add this to the list of options to resolve this issue for good.
I mean Deegs in trouble? Doubt it. Hawked down Hymas & passed him in moto 1 barely missed a moto win. Then started 14th, got to 6th on Toms rear fender, stalled it->back to 8th, re passed back up to 6th-3seconds behind Tom & Ty & landed on a lapper & grenaded.😂 5th on a day like that is almost as good as a win if think. Didn’t even lose any points! That track was also super hard to make time because if they tried to be creative they almost got punished & lost time because the main line was dialed & everyone could go fast. We saw it many times were they’d close up but couldn’t pull the trigger even if they closed up 5sec gap. If he simply starts top 5 he’ll win every overall. But not every track is gonna be like high point where there’s 10 lines & they can hunt and find the best one. Coming from 20th or even 14th to win motos isn’t normal. I guess Haiden’s standard is so high now that people think he sucked this week just because he didn’t fly through from 14th and track down 3 of the fastest guys in the 250’s that all started 1-2-3 & had clean air. Cool to see a new winner though. 38 being 1st every race was getting old. Although I thought Jo was gonna get his Honda win!
is anyone watching the vid? Flagger is waving blue flag even after the wreck until guy rides up and takes the flag and starts waving the yellow. These flaggers are a problem. You cannot deny this. Paid or not, they are a problem
Flagger should have the common sense to be looking in the landing area of a jump, not the face of a jump like the flagger was and prepared to act, immediately..!!!!
How many people have continued the race after the checker flag they are not looking at that like rhino said they’re looking at the jump and they’re going forward might as well put stop lights out there then is it really still racing?
I love how rino just shut hopper down! No blood in the water, its gonna take a whoke hell of a lot more than a wreck that he disnt know about befors tou can say that
What's all this talk about it's expensive to hire flaggers? How much money are these riders making? Seems like a drop in the barrel to hook up these flaggers with a Benjamin for their service.
the sport is dangerous enough as it is, the last thing a rider should have to deal with is untrained / ignorant / inept Flag Men..!!!! The race organizers should be ashamed of themselves... I don't care who you are a person can only take so many hits like Haiden did without risking long term effects..
I was sitting right in front of this the jump is tall landing is like a big hole But like what coach Rob said 4 seconds but you watch the official had to run up to the flagger 4 seconds after that the guy had no idea what was going on the crowd was screaming at him insanely loud still nothing it took a really long time for the guy to get the yellow flag out unacceptable they are watching the wrong direction same thing happened over by the leap in practice they either need more flaggers which is probably the case and more flaggers with more experience end of story
Hopper what the hell are you on Dude. You need to cut way back. Every gate drop Deegan is there to win every moto. He’s not going to let somebody win because he fills sorry for them because what’s happened in their life. Really dude you’re living in OZ man.
Million dollar riders vs 'free entry' flaggers and 'hidden down bikes'. Time to improve. This is not amateur hour. Times HAVE actually changed boys. Our sport can do better.
Ryan saying "its just part of the sport" so thinks you shouldn't try something like comms is crazy. Why not just try it? If they dont like it then do away with it. No one is saying they need to have a conversation during the race, in fact it could probably be one way. It could be only the race director and his team or whatever giving crucial race information on downed riders, tell lapper they are about to be lapped
C'mon Johnny, your video title is Cooksey media style! Deegan lost 1st moto by a split second. 2nd moto ran over another rider and crashed. THIS FCKING MOTOCROSS man!!!
6:33 ryno politely calling Johnny ignorant for thinking elite athletes can gain confidence off someone else crashing because of a downed rider 😂 Stick to the technique breakdowns. You seem to be a bit unraveled with some of your takes here lately.
Why is deegan in trouble people are crazy he came off bike because flag man done s##t job and he hit other bike out off his hands he will be back, normal baby beast mode next week ye rides are getting better faster BUT TO LATE NOW and the know this there have said it only way deegan lose this is a injury that keeps him off bike but he is better then that
Didn’t see any flagger waving a yellow or directing traffic for at least 5 seconds after Deegan hit the crashed riders bike! AMA need to sort this out. Ryno’s right professional flaggers required. MXGP do the same thing, employing volunteers.
250 is over. Deegan will be fine and will be in kill mode this week. Why don't they have lights on the jumps. Much quicker and easy

Deegan has trained on trampoline and knows whete hes at when in the air!
Radio comms in the riders helmets. It's time, let the teams communicate with racers on the course. Safety first.
Big mirrors over the landings that the riders can see as they hit the jump face?
😂😂😂....totally lol
@@channel1_channel I know it sounds out there, but thinking about the angle, and the cost, it sounds doable to me. Like a rear view mirror. Doesn't sound too difficult to me.
@@ybsmike6512 🙄you high ? 🤣
Paid or not, they are a problem
i like ryno... but the theory of "they found 10 million dollars" for smx is ridiculous. they make that 10 mil by having those extra 3 races.
It’s 2024 there is room for improvement on flagging and safety changes
Flagger should have the common sense to be looking in the landing area of a jump, not the face of a jump like the flagger was and prepared to act, immediately..!!!!
How many people have continued the race after the checker flag they are not looking at that like rhino said they’re looking at the jump and they’re going forward might as well put stop lights out there then is it really still racing?
Rhino said it best
There is a lot of people that would put them self on the track to alert the riders if they where paid n had benifits
I sure agree with Ryan, should be pro flaggers for pro events
the sport is dangerous enough as it is, the last thing a rider should have to deal with is untrained / ignorant / inept Flag Men..!!!! The race organizers should be ashamed of themselves... I don't care who you are a person can only take so many hits like Haiden
did without risking long term effects..
Lights are best idea I have heard. I say AMA get busy.
Hate the new intro. 20 seconds of wasted time. Just start up and get to it like you used to do. Thanks!
Click bait... Ha didn't Deegs pass chance in 1st moto!? First moto all year he hasn't finish in 1st or 2nd and he's in trouble!? What the hell ever!!!
Yup and he would have passed him in the 2nd if he didn’t crash. Sorry but Chance isn’t all that
Love your content. Try making through one episode without saying “I digress”.
Ryans on Point !
I paid my money I have the right to ride to get experience
Best show ever
I think flaggers need to be able to protect down riders, and riders racing. Don’t be cheap get flaggers all over to protect everyone
Ryno on drugs like degan fanboys
I was sitting right in front of this the jump is tall landing is like a big hole
But like what coach Rob said 4 seconds but you watch the official had to run up to the flagger 4 seconds after that the guy had no idea what was going on the crowd was screaming at him insanely loud still nothing it took a really long time for the guy to get the yellow flag out unacceptable they are watching the wrong direction same thing happened over by the leap in practice they either need more flaggers which is probably the case and more flaggers with more experience end of story
Try again.
Easy fix helmet communication on board.. done
How do you just warn the riders being affected? Dont warn the entire track at once
The flagger on the face of the Table couldnt even see the rider down, end of Story!.
So the organisers should have made it possible to the flaggers to be able to see or a flagger at each end of the jump
Hopper is really going down the tubes . Johnny, stop insulting the intelligence of moto fans it's really really annoying .
Lappers should get black flagged once they get passed by front runners.no reason for them to be on track
This is what happens when you fill the gates with 35 backmarkers
Haiden has one bad moto, possibly a off weekend and all of the wheels are falling off? Really?? come on now!!!
He’s lost 4 of his last 6 motos😉
@@georgelynch6139 yes but up until that last moto his worst finish was 2nd.
@@nolansalas2679 2nd is losing,
@@georgelynch6139 while moto win are a goal, the ultimate goal is the Championship
Blood in the water 😅😅 haymas don't have a chance to win this title. Unless he gets really lucky.. danger boy will not give that title up for anything
Where is the Red Cross flag
6:33 ryno politely calling Johnny ignorant for thinking elite athletes can gain confidence off someone else crashing because of a downed rider 😂
Stick to the technique breakdowns. You seem to be a bit unraveled with some of your takes here lately.
The moto inside the outdoors was bad ass to Ryno's point. Make more bad ass intimate mid week content. Sell the stories
Why is deegan in trouble people are crazy he came off bike because flag man done s##t job and he hit other bike out off his hands he will be back, normal baby beast mode next week ye rides are getting better faster BUT TO LATE NOW and the know this there have said it only way deegan lose this is a injury that keeps him off bike but he is better then that
Maybe because he’s lost 4 of his last 6 motos?
Didn’t see any flagger waving a yellow or directing traffic for at least 5 seconds after Deegan hit the crashed riders bike! AMA need to sort this out. Ryno’s right professional flaggers required. MXGP do the same thing, employing volunteers.
