Its like you work for Olympus for free we appreciate your charity and kindness
Thanks, Gary.
Finaly someone who is detailed and slow enough for old school, slow catching guys. Great explanation. Thank you very much. I am discovering my EPL cameras.
Glad to help!
I like your videos because they get right into the subject, and you dont scream or yell "hey whats up guys" etc.
Rob, saying thank you is an understatement! Your videos are very interesting, not annoying like other some people's, and you don't patronise or over complicated. Thanks again.
Thanks, Samuel. I try.
You make the most sense of all the people who try to explain Olympus photography settings, thank you for being clear, precise, and slow enough for me to take it in.
Would you use Live Time or Live Composit to take Fireworks please.
Liz.
I'd use Live composite. Would need to take a few test shots then should be okay. I've never taken fireworks photos before, so I'm really only guessing.
Thank you Rob, for teaching us these things that are rarely in youtube.
Glad to help!
Dear Rob,
I think it is us who has to say thank you. You do an excellent job on explaining the Olympus system. I own several Olympus cameras and never knew that much about it since I discovered your channel. I really hope that people go on leaving friendly comments on this great work and that you find new stuff to demonstrate.
All the best from Germany.
Thanks very much for the kind words. -Rob
Thank’s Rob, I love Olympus camera’s and your upload are kind of the holy grail for me. I actually have my Olympus in my hand watching your uploads :-)
Hear hear Teeum. I too have a lot of Olympus cameras and I am still learning new things Through Rob.
Every Olympus user should be obliged to watch your channel. Thanks to your videos i hace completely adopted the olympus product range, they are amazing. It is a pleasure watching you explaining the stuff. I am a great fan Rob!
Very kind of you to write. Thank you!
Rob you are a communication genius. Your videos are so complete on the subject treated. Very easy to understand and explained in depth. No other chain does not go to your ankle, not even that of Olympus, which should commadite you without restriction. I have learned so much watching your videos, you are a Bible for us. Many thanks and continue your excellent work. We need you.
You are too kind. Thanks!
Once again Rob, you are a lifesaver in my understanding of the Olympus camera. The manual included with the camera doesn't come close to explaining what you simplify with your teachings. Thank you for spending the time doing this for us!
Thanks for your kind feedback!
Thank you for an excellent presentation, with no gimmicky effects, extended intro or distracting background music, just well thought out and demonstrated, and clearly a lot of work to create.
Thank you!
Thanks for explaining it all. And, thanks for skipping the thump music that all the youtube bloggers find so essential.
I agree, never understood why people who are trying to teach or explain things, have to drown out their dialogue with crappy music.
Rob is the best OMD teacher on UA-cam.
Wow, these Olympus cameras have so many useful features. I've had my E-M10ii for over a year and am ready to advance and move forward. Couldn't do it without your outstanding videos. Thanks for your channel !
Thanks!
Rob - I could have put this comment in any of dozens of your videos, because they are all so useful. I've been shooting Olympus since the first OM-1 and yet still I've learned a lot about my camera's (EM5ii mainly) capabilities from you. The Olympus community is lucky to have someone like you. My deepest thanks. Oh, and I do recommend a remote trigger. Olympus used to provide one with the camera (I think they stopped that about the time they introduced the MFT format). Besides long-exposure work it's useful for selfies, animation, and situations where it's difficult to actually touch your camera.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write. I really appreciate the very kind feedback. Yes, remote triggers are always handy. I bought a wireless trigger but actually never use it so didn't want to go there in this video.
Rob: your videos are a great resource. You take the time to thoroughly explain your subject, much moreso than the info Olympus provides in its manuals. Can't thank you enough!!
Thanks for watching!
Yup, still on a Sunday binge watch of Rob info goodness. 35 minutes well spent........... Thanks Rob!!!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks very much….great presentation. Don’t worry about being too long…I value your pearls of wisdom.
Thank you kindly!
As a spanish speaker, I'm amazed at the quality of your job! The timing, clarity and direct to the point knowledge is not frequently found. Thanks a lot!! I have my em 10 II for over a year and thans to you now I'm beginning to tame it.
Thank you!
Thank you, Rob. This is the best tutorial in-depth for the Olympus OMD system. I really appreciate all your effort and hard work for putting out such informative videos. Thank you once again. I like the way you explained about the back button focus with an example of using your car's headlight and even in the other videos, your examples and explanations for different settings and situations are bang on. Thank you for keeping it simple and exciting!
Thanks for taking the time to write. I appreciate the kind feedback. -Rob
Thank you Rob 😀I was able to go out today and take some amazing shots of what's left of our Princess Pier here in Melbourne based on your excellent instructions.
Happy to help!
Many thanks Rob, really helped me get my head around Long Exposures and the Olympus system for creating these.
Glad to help!
This tutorial was very helpfull! Took some night pictures the other day, no wind and nice reflections on the water.
Not yet satisfied. Now it is clear how to use these settings correctly. Thank you! I will give it another try this week.
Glad it helped!
Thanks Rob, This has to be one of the best and most comprehensive videos on this subject that I could find. Thank you for the thorough explanation and work you have done.
Thank you!
Thank you, this was so informative! I really like the way you explain and demonstrate all the things without any nonesense like in many other channels. Keep up the good work👍
Thanks. I try.
Good job Rob! I consider myself to be pretty much an expert and was looking at this video hoping you’d show me how to use the remote release that I’m anticipating purchasing. However you taught me a few things about the menu system in particular pushing menu when you were in livebulb getting you to the appropriate settings, I did not know that. That right there was worth watching the video. Thank you very much.
Thanks for watching!
These are always so darn helpful. I've migrated to Olympus as a second, more portable system, and your videos have been the most helpful I've seen by far. Thanks!
Thanks you so much!
Hi Rob,
I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am starting photography today using omd em10 mii. Watching your tutorial videos washed out all my skepticism on whether I chose the right starter system. God bless you and more power.
It's a great camera! I use it professionally in Real Estate. It has few limitations and tons of features.
I was looking for an economic decent system to expand my photographic knowledge. Google led me to this system and your videos(your videos helped me decide on the 10, not too out of vogue as of last month). I think this was a goldmine of information for a hobby photographer. So glad I bought the 10 II, and that you made these videos. I really like Olympus systems and your tutorials.
Thank you!
Thanks Rob. Do you realise how helpful your videos are to Olympus learners. I attend 2 camera clubs and no one has an Olympus. I am doing most of my learning from your videos when I need to know about specific Olympus programs.
Glad to help. Thanks for watching!
Excellent video as usual Rob. You have a following of dedicated fans and I'm very happy to say that I'm one of them. Keep the videos coming my friend, they are very much needed by beginners like me. Thank you once again for sharing.
Thanks. I may do some photowalks next. Need a break from the tutorials.
Thank you Rob, your tutorial videos really helped me a lot using my Olympus camera.
Glad to help!
Hello Rob,
It is my first steps in fotografy and since two months I'm owner Olympus. I've looking for and I've found good teacher. Thanks to you I practice not only making photos but also my English. So thank you so much :)
A.
Hi Anna. I saw your message in facebook. Please try resetting the camera to factory defaults then take some pictures and see if they are still too bright. You can watch my beginners video part1 for tips. ua-cam.com/video/yNwboafjTfA/v-deo.html Let me know if that worked. Thanks. -Rob
Also, don't use scn mode!
Hello, I will try tomorrow make photo and I will write you if reset camera work. A.
Hello Rob, It has taken me a little bit time, to resetting my camera. After that I had to made my own setting and checked how it worked. The biggest problem I had it was with orange and yellow colours, they were too intensive. And nothin was changed why? Because I realised that I used ART1 mode :) yes on this mode colours are intensive. I have still problem with too bright pictures or maybe it is my belief. So I practice with landscapes photos using diferent exposure compensation, aperture, ISO and exposure time. I' watching your films for beginners and step by step I'm going forward. Making photos it is such a pleasure, Anka
Rob....thank you for bringing back my interest to my Olympus Omd EM5 MII !!! I came across your you tube channel by fluke...why you never popped up in my google searches before is befuddling to me. Your videos rock! They are simple to follow along with, but full of great tidbits and details. You are extremely easy to follow along with and listen too. I like that you are down to earth and not jazzing your videos up with a bunch of BS. KEEP UP THE FANTASTIC WORK....the videos work great for us Oly specific shooters. Yours were exactly what I was looking for and needed.
Cheers.
Thank you for taking the time to write your very kind words. Glad you found my videos and found them helpful!
Thank you so much for this and other videos - I have learnt so much about my camera. You explain everything and show everything in an easy to follow manner - some videos I have seen I am concentrating just to keep up with their speed of speech!
Glad it was helpful!
Olympus should be paying you for all this incredible information. Amazing. You have been so helpful.
Thank you.
Thank you so much Rob for your amazing way of explaining Olympus camera's! I'm so appreciative of your extensive knowledge and for making my Olympus clearer to me !
Glad to help!
thank you very much for the clear information. the M1 mark 111 have a B button for Bulb and Live and time. i like your video's because you are calm and clear in your explanations.
best regards
Thanks, Bart.
Hi Rob just wanted to say a huge “thank you” for your videos. You have made my transition to Olympus so much easier. Also I really appreciate your straightforward approach without all the gimmicks used by so many UA-cam educators. Consider me a HUGE fan. Wayne
Thanks! Appreciate the kind feedback.
Thank you Rob. You're a lovely guy and you've helped me so much with my brand new E-m10 mark iii. I had a Sony RX100 m3 which I knew inside out and was feeling rather overwhelmed with the step up to the Olympus. You've cut my learning time by about 90% and taught me a good few things I didn't know or had forgotten. I am so very grateful to you. Ok, lots of menu options on the miii are different but even searching for the settings you were mentioning did help me start to find my way around! Please don't stop - it's so generous of you to give up so much time to help total strangers. You're wonderful!
Thank you very much for taking the time to write such kind words. I appreciate it!
Thanks Rob. Well explained and kept it really simple. Thanks again. 👍
Happy New Year!
Fantastic long video. You give everyone the knowledge you have on your tutorials which makes owning the Pen F so enjoyable.
Thanks. I need to do more Pen-F specific videos. I haven't even touched the front dial!
Thanks for the video, Rob. It makes things very clear and I don't think I'd have understood how to do Live Comp on my own. Greetings from Wales!
Greetings! Thanks for watching!
Just got my OMD E m-1 and your videos have got me familiar with my camera much faster. Thank you so much!
Thank you for watching!
Hey Rob, your videos have become my go to manual for my em11. I really think Olympus should be throwing you a bone every once in a while, as their efforts to explain are really quite shallow. Love your style and detailed approach...You keep us watching and coming back for more.
Thank you for the kind words. -Rob
Easily the most detailed, relaxed, and easy to understand menu tutorials.
Thanks, man.!
I really appreciate it.
I try to be thorough. Thanks for your feedback!
I really enjoy these videos...thank you from England
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for your outstanding videos, they do help me to understand my Olympus much better. Jim, Charlotte, NC.
Thank you!
Hi Rob, I have just discovered your videos Rob and I love them! Seems like I’m a couple of years late but they are still very relevant. Thanks very much.
Thanks!
Excellent, thanks Bob, a lot of questions answered and some I had not thought of.
Glad to help, Donald.
Dear Rob, thank you! Since i've discovered your videos you changed the way i exploit my oly camera! Really appreciate the time you spent for us doing those tutorials!
Thank you for the kind feedback!
Rob, I wanted to give you some GREAT feedback, I have learnt so much from your UA-cam videos and the OMD 10. Seriously Olympus should be sponsoring you big time.
As as advanced amateur I went from P&S canon sx510 to Olympus OMD 10 and just can't get over how much this camera can do. We were recently photographing at a night light of a local abbey and the live time function just blew my mates mind away. He had a DSLR Pentax and didn't realise cameras could do this. For me, having seen your videos I genuinely still expected the 1, 2 and 3rd attempt to be rubbish. But no - pretty good results from day 1!
Thank you! I try to keep things simple and explain each step. Makes the videos very long, but so many tutorials make too many assumptions about what people do or don't understand. Glad you're getting great shots off the bat!
Thanks Rob, appreciate the time & effort you put into making these vids. Do keep them coming!! : )
Thank you! I'll try.
Thanks again Rob for your video... really great... A beginner in Olympus here...
Thanks, Raphael!
Thanks for the Video Rob. I do a lot of light painting therefore a lot of long exposures. I've been using bulb, live bulb, and live time without a full understanding of what the differences were but thanks to your video I now do and then some, great Job! I'll be looking up your other videos.
Thanks, Chuck. Let me know if you have any questions.
It we who have to thank you Rob. Your video's are the best my friend.
Great video Rob, only few of us do not go for the Canons and Nikons so I’m more than happy that you put so many time in to explaining in detail what our camera can do. You bring it very easy with good examples so thanks again, I love watching your video’s
Thank you!
Thanks. You make it sound so simple.
Glad it was helpful!
Dear Rob
Many thanks a very well explained tutorial, for an Olympus newbie like me you are a saviour.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this great video! I’ve learned a lot! Now just need to practice. I take notes as I watch, rewind, listen again. Thanks for sharing!
Glad it was helpful!
So very helpful to an Olympus owner. Well produced tutorial, thanks.
Thank you!
Mr Rob.
This was AMAZING!! You have such an amazing way of explaining things and making details easy to understand. Thank you so so much 😍
Thank you for watching!
Excellent demonstration! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
very clear, quiet & useful. Thanks a lot Rob
Thank you!
Brilliant! Thanks so much - I am doing a light painting course tonight and now I feel more than ready to take part. All I wanted to know was where to find BULB but this gave me so much more. Thanks a million.
Thanks for watching!
I hope you don't mind another comment, but I've enjoyed watching this video, pausing it, and playing with my cameras! As regards a remote shutter, if you have a smart phone (I have an iPhone), you can use the OI.Share app as a remote shutter. I just configured my E-PL7 (also have E-M10.2 and E-M1.1), for Live Bulb and the shutter button on the phone worked to begin the exposure, the live view updated on the phone, and when I removed my finger from the shutter button on the phone, it ended the exposure. I also have a USB remote, but I often use the wife, (Heh! Auto-correct!) wi-fi remote because the phone is almost always with me.
I love comments, especially from more experienced owners. I've only been shooting Olympus for little over a year. Yeah, I didn't cover using the app. You still have to set everything up in camera before going into the app, but it works great as a remote shutter. I don't do enough long exposure to see if this makes for a better workflow rather than just using delayed shutter and bulb timer and/or black card.
Hello Rob, thank you so much for really useful tutorial. For me it was a gem. I do long time exposures for my landscape photography but didn't know half of the stuff you explained. I do use the external programmable remote control which works great.
Again, Thank you Rob.
Thanks for the kind feedback! -Rob
You are my Olympus bible, thanks a million Rob:))
Thank you!
Another great video Rob. I haven't done any long exposure photography yet, but you have given me food for thought. Thank you.
Thanks for the feedback! Lots of creative ways to do long exposure that I didn't even touch on.
Hi Rob, as a note for new M10-iii owners - DO NOT USE THE new dial "AP" option to operate Live Composite or Live Time as you cannot set ISO or Aperture. You need to still use the "M" and scroll to the Live Time or Live Composite...then it works perfectly.
Am finding your Tutorials great for a new Olympus M10-iii owner, many thanks
Thanks for sharing that information. I don't have the em10-iii so this will help many new owners!
Great video. I noticed on both my Pen-F and my EM1 that the IBIS goes off automatically when I go into bulb or time modes, which is great because I would forget to turn it off. I'm so glad I have cameras that are smarter than me.
Hmm, I'll have to check that on my cameras. I rarely turn off ibis because I'm so unstable and use lightweight tripods and monopods.
Another great tutorial, thank you! So easy to understand and really detailed, you really think from the first time user's perspective.
Thanks. I try to teach features as if you just got the camera.
Excellent video demo of the OLympus cameras...! Thank You Rob for an amazing job.
PS: In Time mode, I put a black card, or my hand, in front of the lens, to stop the exposure, before I touch the exposure button the second time.
PPS: For several hours exposure, I would guess, Mulitple exposures could make multiple 30 min exposures. Noise reduction will have to be off...then again the noise is a little different for each exposure, thus cancelling itself out.
I remember Tony Northrop made multiple exposures this way, to achieve blurred smooth water. Again Thank You Rob for your efforts.
I totally forgot about using a black card! I don't do much long exposure. These long videos force me to stop and restart because of the video time limit and I lose my train of thought. Thanks for sharing your tips!
another way is to use remote app on a smartphone or tablet . I use a lot my smartphone like trigger
Thanks Rob Ive just bought the EM1Mk2 after six years using the EM5 so Im working through your tutorials which are a great help
I have the Olympus Image Share App on my phone which has a wireless remote shutter but haven't used it yet.
em1mk2 is awesome! I prefer a wireless remote shutter release vs the app. The app requires wifi which shortens the battery run time. You have to setup the camera before the starting the app anyway, so why not just set the shutter delay while your at it?
Great Tuto. Light in menus where i sometimes get lost. For me coming from Pana (GX8/GM1), everything becomes clearer with Olympus (OM-D E M 1 MK II).
Thanks a lot. Christophe (France).
Glad it helped!
Thank you Rob. These aren’t easy videos to make. I have learnt a lot more about my camera from watching your detailed explanations. The Olympus manual is not the best read :). All the best from “Down Under”
Thanks! There is a lot more to these cameras than I thought since I started using them. Glad my videos help and thanks for your feedback!
Hi rob! just wanna let you know you did an awesome job, very straight forward and easy to digest. Keep it up!
Thank you!
Very useful explanation. Ther does not seem to be much detailed information out there on these modes so your video is very useful.
Thank you for your feedback! I try to be thorough. -Rob
Hi Rob! Thanks for your great tutorial, I'm always improving my photography thanks to you and your amazingly detailed videos. Really helpful!
Many thanks from Portugal.
Obrigado!
Thanks again for your feedback! Glad you still find them helpful. -Rob
Thanks a lot for this tutorial. Useful as always, especially for a newbie like me...
Glad to help. Thanks.
Great video Rob thanks so much
Wow, very interesting. thank you Rob for helping me and my photo skills grow.
Thanks. Always glad to help.
Good man straight to the point just subscribed 🤠
Thanks. I try.
Thanks Rob - Going out tonight first time to give night photography ago. Going to be interesting as Im in a wheelchair but hoping it will be fun. Using OM-D EM5 Mkll Thanks for this video serves as a good reminder.
Great! Have fun. Post them on instagram or where ever and let me know.
Very helpful Rob for night photography, Im just not sure how you calculate the time for the exposure, but you explain everything very well. I have an EM5 mark 2 love the Olympus cameras.
Thanks. You get a feel for exposure at night after practicing some. I love the Olympus cameras too!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge 🙏🏻 Your videos are helpful! 👏🏻
Thanks, Maria. Glad to help.
Right on there Rob! That’s a lot of work and expertise in your videos. This one seems necessarily long. A lot of settings are changed to achieve time exposures in the various modes you presented. A suggestion you might add putting these settings into a custom mode making it easier to not pick your way back out of the time exposure settings one by one to get back to “Normal” settings. Perhaps you covered that but maybe missed it. Yeah, good stuff, thanks!
Thanks, Mitch. I do have a video on using mysets. I didn't want to casually program a myset here for those not familiar with it.
Thank you! You just answered all my questions about long exposures. Just subscribed to your wonderful channel.
Thanks. Glad to help!
Awesome tutorial Rob! Extremely helpful as always
Thank you!
Fantastic video Rob, many thanks
Thank you!
Great Tutorial as always, many thanks and looking forward to your next video
Thank you!
Thank you Rob. Another excellent video!
Thanks for watching!
thank you so very much for all the useful information.
Thanks for watching!
I love it when things are over explained. And inappropriate examples are really helpful. Lifetime is not for a stationary subjects. It is for things where the light is moving and not in the same spot. For example fireworks, Star trails, amusement rides and even stationary subjects while moving the camera
Thanks for your feedback.
so easy to understand thanks
Glad it helped!
Great tutorial Rob. Is there any way you can switch off that annoying red light that flashes every time you focus? Thank you.
Livebulb is the feature that I wish other companies have. Before when I used to shoot nikon and my colleagues got the first production omds, this was the feature that really blew us off.. it realy made long exposures easy
Yes, the livebulb is pretty cool. Thanks for watching!
Thank you, Rob 👍 That helps me a lot to understand!
Thanks for watching!
You are doing a great job. Do keep going. I have decided to go for the new E-M5 Mark 3 releasing in a few days.
Thanks. I'm 99% there on the EM5-3.
Love your commercial Rob. It's hilarious! Wish you didn't delete the UFO shot!
Thanks, Vic.
thank god for your videos really helps learn my camera
Thanks. I try.
