Where did Dumas's oil pressure go?!?! Why will it not idle????

  • If you've seen the last video of this old truck then you should remember that Dumas would not idle at all and it lost oil pressure on the drive home. Is the oil pump shot? Pickup tube stopped up? Let's figure out what happened to the ol FE 360!

21:40 It looks like it's time for new oil, seals or just a plain old new JACK on the floor.. it looked quite a bit like she was coming down as you pumped that motor up.. Maybe you didn't tighten the handle enough, but I doubt it.. I think I've heard you complain about that jack once or twice before (not sure if it's the same one) That drives me nuts when it happens.. I'll throw a jack right into the metal pile if it won't hold something up long.. Great video as always!!
edit: OH.. yeah you explained that one right after I made the comment!! hahaha I'm glad you feel the same way as I do!

When we replaced blown engines with a junkyard engine, that's what the older guys used every time. Amazing. 80% of the time, it's works 100% of the time.......Google. 👍

Did you make sure the cam was pulled up snug to the retainer plate before you lengthened the locating dowel? If not, that's a big problem, as the sprocket won't be tight against the cam and the cam won't be as far forward as it needs to be and consequently, the lifters won't ride on the cam lobes where they're supposed to. Love your vids. --Bruce

My father drove an ‘86 F150 with a leaky 302 from 1990 to 2004. He worked heavy construction all over eastern Pennsylvania. I drove the truck for a few years when he finished with it, finally retiring it just a few years ago. The front main seal leaked the entire time and between the oil and construction site dust, everything under the hood and under the truck was coated with INCHES of grime. Changing the oil required a full face shield with the amount of crust that would fall in your face getting under that truck.
In spite of all that, it was probably the best running truck, for over three hundred thousand miles, that either of us have ever owned. It was the first year for fuel injection and we never even replaced an injector for all those years and all those miles. Fantastic truck. BUILT FORD TOUGH!!

Working on cold concrete, know a little about that 🤣IMHO, the oil pressure at idle looks to be below 10psi with a new aluminum radiator so it's staying cool and 15-40 thick oil, she's plumb worn out. Soon as you get some heat in that crank and rods at speed, it'll probably go to knocking like my old 348 i slapped in my 55 150. save on some time and plan on a rebuild... who knows how long those rods/crank bearings been starved of oil. thanks as always for sharing! Was for sure that crank would spin and spit the 4x4 out lol! but you made it work!

Liked this episode! I’ve got a 1969 Galaxie with a 390, and the prior owner jacked the front of the car up in the bottom of the oil pan instead of the crossmember. The pan is bent in badly on one side. I’ve not driven the car and noticed it after I bought it. Things seem ok, but I’m fearful the oil pickup screen could be partially blocked off and am going to replace the oil pan, pump and pickup screen.
Im noting the drive shaft for the pump! Good catch on your part! Im also checking my timing chain while I’m in there, as well.
Hearing from others on how to raise the engine and seeing your method helps me better understand what needs to be done. I’ve got a 4 post lift with a rolling jack, which will be easier for me. Less up and down. In years past I’d have to do it as you did.
I’ve owned this car for four years, only started it up to drive it onto a trailer and have it towed to my current place, and only drove it off the trailer and into my shop. It’s sat there for four years now. I’ll get to it soon, and replace the water pump, radiator and gaskets and hoses and belts, too.
It’s 53 years old now, not sure of actual mileage, but it’s a clean non molested original, Convertible.
My plan is to keep it close to original, but replace and repair as necessary.
I only have idiot lights in the car, haven’t seen the oil light come on, but am installing oil and temp gauges.
Keep the episodes coming! I really enjoy following along!

Some people say “fouled over rebuilt dodge”, others say they’re “found on roadside dead” and I know you have to “fix or repair daily” but every now ‘n then they’re “first on race day”!! 🤣
    God bless 🙏🇺🇸 and Ford

I love this truck! Hope to have one kinda like that, at least from the 70s one day. I would love to see a full rebuild/restoration on it. I think if you put a new grill on it it would transform this truck. Loving the videos on it.

Allways enjoy time spent in your garage , never fails that I learn something new and even though I'm long since past for doing it myself they say you never stop thirsting for knowledge. That Ford still has some time left in her and your the man to find all her faults. Looking forward to your next Video . Stu in Canada....
