Hi Gotham! It is not an Armageddon, but a sudden death. You just need to win one. Therefore white gets a disadvantage. We talked to the person that designed the new format for the tiebreaker 3 years ago in Wijk aan Zee today. He explained the format. He told us that they talked to many Grandmasters and this is the amount of time reduction that they decided upon. For determining who plays which color. The person that played black in the previous game gets the white pieces first. So that is just drawn randomly. Then, if it is a draw, the person that started with white gets black for the next 2 games (if they keep drawing).
Wei Yi … He plays the roughest and unorthodox yet there’s order to it all. By the time you got the final, I wanted him to be the winner. He’s very inspirational towards trying out new things and even random things that may or may not work out. Many thanks for this enjoyable content 😊😅
21:40 White has less time because it isn't an Armageddon game. It's "sudden death" where any win is decisive, but a draw swaps pieces and restarts the game.
