    You missed the most important aspect of this video. That is to show people why this watermelon is that expensive and is it worth the price. So, cut it opened and explain the quality of the fruit and so on. Who cares how it’s grown until you can convince the consumers this is truly a special melon.

    • @J1WE
      @J1WE 2 роки тому +42

      Japan has a big culture of gifts of fruit to each other. Expensive fruits are popular. Japan is very good at building speciality industries around things.
      Is it placebo to think it taste better because it was cared for better? Done unconventually? Think about their beef? Its special and so there's a price for that.
      Has this video not intrigued you to go look it up and learn more about it ?

    I’m always astounded by Japan’s ability to take a common everyday item and manufacture/cultivate it in a way that makes it exorbitantly priced. I could never imagine paying this much for a single melon. Even if they massaged it and sang it lullabies every evening 😂 but to each their own.

    What is with Japan's obsession with this perfection??? That's more of a rhetorical question as I understand there is a market for 'perfect' 'fruits' but I am just amazed that the demand exists! This just shows that there are a lot of rich people out there that would love to spend their money on such trivial things!

    • @eri6219
      @eri6219 2 роки тому +7

      It's because their land is very limited and they won't be able to mass produce any type of crop. Naturally you turn to pursue the quality. And if you've had any fruits from japan, you will understand why people are willing to spend the money. I studied aboard in Japan during college and it's been a few years and I still won't eat strawberries or melons in the United States.

    Inside fruit is similar to common watermelon. It is red (or yellow sometimes ). So it is black skin ( not really black actually it is dark green without line)
    And I wonder about the name " Japan black watermelon".
    Because I read news about this very long ago in Korean newpaper they had experiment
    many years and got good results.
    News said it is originally from Europe and they developed to better one for Korean people taste and it was a bit expensive.
    I think blackskin watermelon is grown in many countries nowadays.

Now Asian sweet potatoes, on the other hand, is something I wish would be more widely grown and available here. Huge difference in taste from the sweet potatoes grown in the southern US (less fibrous and much sweeter - almost like a candied chestnut) and an absolute delight.

      It is Almighty Allah who created the seed, sprouted the plant, and brought forth the fruits. Praise be to Almighty Allah, the Lord of the Worlds!
      "Without His (Allah's) knowledge, no fruit sprouts from a seed..." (Holy Quran, 41/47)
      "Undoubtedly, Allah is the one who splits the grain and the seed. He brings forth the living from the dead, and the dead out of the living. That's what Allah is. So how do you turn around?" (Holy Quran, 6/95).

    Looks like it was bred until the darkest part of normal watermelon stripes were extended over the entire melon lol!
    Other to that, it seems to be 🍉 so i wonder if it tastes more special than the standard? To me personally, appearance IS important yet secondary to smell and flavour.

    I love the care that goes into each step of producing each plant. At the end, it is literally a perfect jewel

    Reason why it's so expensive is not because of the fruit but because of the amount of time and care they gave for this fruit

      They dont spend any more time than a typical green house. There is nothing special about this water melon beside the price. The grower made a very very very nice profit.

      Unless those laborers are paid $100 an hour the cost isn't justified by the overhead. That is, in my humble opinion.

      As the video said, crazy japan things. We Americans are just used to more mass-produced stuff.
