In Fujisawa, where the skies are bright and the seas glisten, Sakuta Azusagawa is in his second year of high school. Blissful days with his girlfriend and upperclassman, Mai Sakurajima, are interrupted by the appearance of his first crush, Shoko Makinohara. For reasons unknown, he encounters two Shokos: one in middle school and another who has become an adult.
As Sakuta finds himself helplessly living with Shoko, the adult Shoko leads him around by the nose, causing a huge rift in his relationship with Mai.

Honestly I feel like the entirety of Sakuta's life after he met Mai has just been him dragging out the word "fuck" internally in a monotone voice, BUT WE SHIP IT SO HIS ETERNAL SUFFERING IS FINE

Just finished the whole series and movie no holy shit what an amazing animae. One of the best I’ve watched. I cried, got pissed, got annoyed, regretted my previous feelings, cried some more, cried a little more, then accepted how amazing the people who made this were. A rollercoaster of emotions. Truly amazing. I only ever found this animae becuz I was bored looking on Netflix for something to watch. I had actually seen it before and watched the 1st five mins before clicking off. Almost 2 yrs later, I finally gave it a chance and wow. Best choice I ever made. Thought it would be riddled with fan service but has none depending on what you consider fan service to be. After watching the series I looked online and found out that there was a movie (thank god I did). The movie is the cause for 80% of the tears I shed while watching both the series and movie. Series is amazing on its own but if you don’t watch the movie you’ve missed 90% of the experience with this animae. 10/10 I would recommended to anyone.

@@sakuta-san7918 but the ln haven’t ended yet so they’re prob just waiting for another volume since the first season covered 5 volume they prob want the second to also cover 5. The popularity of the ln is insane and what matters to creators more than good endings are the cold hard cash.

No worries bro, season 2 will be produced when the original novel is published. Aobuta has huge amount of fans and the profit from the season 1 & the movie exceeds the standard for judging if season 2 worth making. it's just because there are not enough stocks of the original work

When I first heard about this anime, I didnt really wanna watch cuz I thought it was about bunny girls which soon realized is not. So I I watched it cuz I thought there was nothing sad about this anime and that it was just about puberty syndrome and some highschool romance but it gets sadder and sadder every episode. Finally I finished it and then soon heard about the movie and I watched it ofcourse I cried, the last I cried to an anime is when I watched your lie in april and it was one heck of a pain...

So please don't click this if you don't want to be spoil. I personally have watched this movie and really enjoy it. So here's the spoilers.
Sakuta encounters two Shokos. One in middle school and the other an adult, the one who first helped him in his memories. Sakuta discovers that the middle school Shoko is suffering from a heart disease that urgently requires heart transplantation to save her life. When both Sakuta and Mai become concerned about the middle school Shoko's grave illness and think of ways to help her, Sakuta eventually figures out the link between his wounds and adult Shoko who is comes from the future after a successful heart transplant operation. Shoko's heart donor is Sakuta himself -who Shoko reveals was declared brain dead after a fatal traffic accident on Christmas Eve. It turns out the reason Shoko came back is to save her dear Sakuta's life. Against Mai’s wishes, Sakuta decides to sacrifice himself so that Shoko can live. Sakuta nearly gets run over, but Mai pushes him aside at the last moment, and she gets hit by the car instead. As a result, the entire casualty has changed - Sakuta lives, but Mai is killed and Shoko's heart transplant donor becomes Mai.
Sakuta is in shock and devastated after Mai's death. Unable to bear seeing him like this, adult Shoko helps him one last time by telling him a secret: with her help, he can also return to the past to rewrite history; the ultimate implication being that the adult Shoko disappears forever. Sakuta makes a firm decision and returns to the past to save his love. Sakuta stops Mai from saving himself and prevents himself from being run over, but now Shoko doesn’t have a heart transplant from anyone and her illness remains uncured. However, Sakuta refuses to accept such an outcome and together with Mai, they agree to find a way to help the young Shoko who by now is close to death, knowing that saving her means risking the loss of everything that has happened up to then.
Nevertheless, the couple vow to find each other and fall in love all over again. Sakuta visits young Shoko one last time, where she reveals that she now knows everything that has happened. (Adult Shouko and middle school Shouko become one just like what happened to Futaba in season 1) She decides that she will create a future in which she never meets both Sakuta and Mai; thus saving them from the sadness of the situation.
Time winds back to the past, when Shoko was in fourth grade. She bravely writes down her future hopes, but this means giving up the memory of meeting both Sakuta and Mai; and that they would likely never meet her.
In the end, time returns to the present. New year comes, Sakuta and Mai visit the shrine and pass by a beach, where for the first time they encounter Shoko, now a healthy young girl. She survived the heart disease because Mai San made a movie about a memory piece from different timeline of Shouko which appears in Mai San dream (although they never met Shouko in this present timeline) which makes many people want to be a donor. Shouko successfuly had a heart transplantation. Thanks to memory pieces crossing different timelines, they eventually recognize each other.
So that's it. You just spoiled this movie to yourself.
So as being said in the last part of the movie both Mai and Sakuta loss their precious memories from episode 1 to 13 am i right? like mai says that they will take a little detour to save little shoko. for me it feels like they start from the beginning. 😭
