- I was commissioned to make 25 unique turkey strikers. Don't know what a turkey striker is, it okay I didn't either.
I give a little bit of a back ground on what they are in this video. The short of it is. They are used in turkey hunting and they help make a turkey call to attract male turkeys.
This project was super fun and would not have been possible without the commission from my friend Hamilton Dilbeck.
Hamilton is a fellow UA-cam and woodworker. he is making a bunch of turkey pots to go along with these strikers. Here is a link to Hamiltons video of the build. Make sure you follow him and subscribe.

I'm 59 and have never seen a turkey call. thanx for the video
Seriously awesome work! Thanks so much, the people who have gotten them have loved them so far!
Thanks brotha! Glad to hear that people like them!
You did a great job for not knowing anything about a turkey striker or call at that..
I custom build turkey calls
Check out my UA-cam channel.
Turkey striker are mostly made with a balance to them.. the striker topper is usually 3-1/4 3 -1/2 long and the stem part is about 4-4-1/2 long
Wieght is another factor light = higher pitch or tone heavier = lower pitch or tone.. now the wood hardness plays a factor as well softer woods like walnut will give a dull sound as to harder wood like bloodwood will give clean sharper higher tones of the call.. now i don't make to many 1pc strikers because they are a pain to make .. but a great 2pc striker with the right weight to it works wonders..
I will be doing a striker video this summer because of my viewer's wants..
But great video though
OH wow! Great information! Thank you. I don't know that I'll be making them again, but this was great info. When you do make the video, I would love to see it!
So jealous of that lathe lol. Have you done a review of it?
I actually haven’t. That’s a good idea!
What size of blanks did you start with?
About 2” x 2”
