oh, its 2,800 new Navy Personnel moving in but you have to remember, most of those are bringing their families. 2,800 Sailors means about 1,800 Wives, about 400 adult family members, and about 3,600 Military Kids.
I guess Derek wasn't paying attention when Washington stripped the Naval Hospital of most of its departments, because he never said anything. The Emergency Room, most of Internal Medicine, the entirety of Maternity Care all went away, burdening St Michaels with gobs of Tricare patients. Norm Dicks woulda pitched a fit you could hear in Alaska.
@@bobsmalser8304 yes Norm Dicks would not of let that pass but Norm Dicks was a Conservative Blue Dog Democrat. These type Democrats no longer exist. Only the radical progressive Socialist Communist which is very sad for the party and individuals like myself who used to support them.
@TheSoad876 😌 relax. The benefits to having members of our military and their families FAR outweigh ANY small inconvenience with traffic. I have lived in this military town since ??? HHmm. I would say 1964 when my family moved here from Olympia. Now, if you want to complain about unsafe, uninsured drivers, let's talk about the several thousand illegal aliens that have flooded this area the past ten or so years 😳. As a recently retired mortgage loan officer, I was astounded at how many applicants I received that were not US citizens. They spoke Spanish, not English. Had no desire to mold in with our culture, but hey... we are 100% commission. I will work my hardest to get anyone a home loan, and I did...I just couldn't ignore the fact that #1. They were not US Cotizens #2. Couldn't document the source of their income as it was usually working under the table. Therefore, no taxes are paid. Meaning they contributed NOTHING to the local economies.
So, I live by JBLM [it's still Ft. Lewis if you're from here] and while we do have traffic issues [especially on summer and holiday weekends], I'm pretty philosophical about it. Lots of traffic means that all three brigades are home and safe. I'm willing to put up with traffic if our troops aren't out at the fuzzy end of the lollipop, ya know? I've been that far downrange and it sucks dog balls. I understand this is different for Kitsap County because ships come and go so often and it doesn't have I-5 to absorb a lot of the movement... Hwy 16 has a pretty limited load after all.
As a 63 year old lifelong Bremerton resident, I would like to say one word to the USS Reagan's crew and families. The word is "WELCOME." Please don't let the Mossback's deter you. Mossbacks, my word for the old and crustie folks that would like to make Kitsap County, thus Bremerton an island of seclusion where they can sit in their front porches down town and sleep in their lawn chairs with a newspaper over their face because no cars on the streets to make noise. These are the same individual's that kill anything and everything that would benefit this area. Always the same excuses, the traffic, the infrastructure, bla bla bla. A few years back, they killed a NASCAR race track that would have brought millions to the county. They said we couldn't handle the traffic. Never mind that the track would be used twice per year. Reagan crew and families, I hope you love this area as much as most everyone else does. You will want to stay and raise your family here as well. Then, later on, you can become a Mossback, too, in order to preserve and protect your little slice of heaven 😊. Again, Welcome!!!
If I’m not mistaken I think we had three carriers, two at Bremerton and one at Everett until 2012 or 2013, the Lincoln was at Everett and the Nimitz took it’s place and I think the Stennis and another was at Bremerton

Lived in area twice and miss it. USS Coral Sea dry dock in 78 and MB Bangor in the 80’s.
I was stationed at USNH Bremerton from June 59 till May 62. Rented a little cottage on Kitsap Way for $50 on a monthly income of $190 it was tight movies on the base were 10 cents. Could never get usta the long rainy fall and winter with no sun very depressing. Good luck Gripper crew.
It gives them a reason to ask for more funding for that area for construction projects. So basically 5-10 years of a hassle before anything is improved
@madgreek253 We will grow and make accommodations as we have since 1961 when I first arrived. I have a friend, Colleen Monroe, who is the areas unofficial historian. If asked, I am sure she would be happy to provide you with pictures of what things used to look like in Bremerton when WE were younger. The Silverdale area might have a handful of cars driving at any time. No more than 10 tops. Downtown Bremerton had ALL the major stores such as Sears and Penny's. There will always be growth 😊.
Then maybe the county planners need to donsonethingbabout it, right? With all the NEW REVENUE, there will be funds to handle the influx of traffic. Remember when they1 had a stoplight in Gorst before the overpass was built? New growth required the building of the Gorst overpass. We will again, do something to make accommodation for the new families. In life, your either moving forward and growing or moving backward and receding. Nothing ever stays the same. We should embrace growth but manage it wisely.
@sharkness01 sounds like you've been around as long as I have. Not sure what part of the county you are in but they have done nothing but screw traffic up in central kitsap.
This is nothing new. These large carriers and their crews and families transition in and out of Bremerton every few years. And the number of workers varies with the congressional navy budget process. If nothing else, the Bremerton shipyard and base has been operating under its actual capacity for decades now due to lack of funding. Plus base maintenance and capital upgrades and infrastructure replacement and improvements has been short changed as well. When bad guys start actually shooting at and hitting our navy ships, the American public will get a rude awakening at just how limited our ability to repair those damaged ships actually is let alone build replacements.
And they Scrapped all the non Nuc carriers in mothball!!! Like we will be able to build one in the 4 years that WWIII took ? We will never lose a Carrier? ? Practically treasonous .
It's local news. A news outlet is informing the public about a change that's happening in their neighborhood; that's what they SHOULD be doing. And it's also been some time since there were two carriers stationed here at the same time.
Expect rent to say high or higher, and property prices hi as well. The grind loves guaranteed money. When in the military you will always get your money the banks say. DWI inforcement galor as well. The grinds big money collection is coming. The county will complane but they will collect for sure.
The additional traffic of disciplined people will improve the crime situation despite your governor and attorney general supporting migrants draining the taxpayers and adding to the crime rate.
