Greatest of all , no other climber could hold a candle to Gaul when he was on top form , sadly things did not go so well for him in retirement, it is still a mystery to me why he is not lauded so much for his efforts , had he had the benefit of a strong backing team he could have achieved twice the record he has . Massignan also was a superb climber who , these days is sadly almost forgotten , such a shame.
