Great Rig for sanding! You have given me lots of ideas on how I can adapt this "Rig" ( not a jig!) for other sanding projects. Cheers for Sydney Australia.
A number of people are asking me about the platen. It's Douglas Fir. The lighter pieces are Scandinavian Redwood. It's just stuff I had in the scrap box. There is no lubrication on the block, it is just sanded smooth. Any slick would get transferred to the back of the belt and then the traction from the drive roller would be reduced even further, which, of course, I don't want. It's barely enough as it is, due to the reduced arc of contact. The block does not get hot, so it is not a problem.
@@SteveMaskery LOL it's probably sitting on a shelf (or in a drawer) saying "bastard... he's owned me for years and years and the ONE TIME I can be useful... he forgot about me... bastard".

Another "Rig" from our Steve Maskery. Thank you again kind Sir; for sharing your innate talents when woodworking.

Another excellent lesson on improvisation to improve a project's quality. Thank you for this. Very helpful.
A great tip there Steve. Thanks for sharing!
Genius as always! I guess you could buy over sized sander belts as well.
Why doesn't the platen block burst into flames from friction?
LOL! It doesn't get noticeably hot.
Very instructional
Awesome.
Nice.
Steve I'm surprised you don't haz a radius plane?
Good point! I do actually, but it chatters a lot so I rarely use it. TBH I never thought of it.

@@rafezetter8003 Very good :)
If it works it doesn’t if it’s crude Steve.
