best solution I've seen so far for a station that takes a portable belt sander and ends with a bench sander. Great idea.

Das tolle daran finde ich einfach das man nur 2 Schrauben lösen muss und man hat seinen Bandschleifer zurück 😊👍🏼

As far as i'm concerned, it's the breaking point point between a great sander and a bad one. Of course, that may be because i change belts more often, but even so, there are some convoluted and oblique designs out there that just make you scratch your head in wonder at what the design team was thinking.

A helpful solution also for a disc sander, when setting the table wider than the diameter of the disc.

It is a very clean and simple design. This is the smartest way to make this since you can remove the sander and use it separately. I still wanted to see your take on a standalone belt sander made from scratch.

It is amazing the quality of the wood you find in the wood pile. A bit of planing and sawing and you get very good 2X4 and 4X4 blocks!! For me it is mainly white and red oak.

I know you said a slot might be gimmicky, but i'd still add one. You can make a super cheap slot out of a picture frame (or ad frame in some places) by cutting the face off and leaving the slot channel for the angle connections they use a a slot. It's small, cheap to make and there's a large variety of T-nuts for various applications, as not all such frames are used for pictures, mine for example is a wall mounted formicarium and it came with these tiny T-nuts (ebay) that hold quite a lot of weight.
You can easily make an angle guide and sled from that.

my cheap chinese one keeps breaking belts, so this is a great idea...
the miter slot might be good if you had a totally perfect filler strip for it with .00000001 clearance and internal screw for hold down when not in use, but another level of complexity, hassle, and possibly ruin perfect surface.

When I upgraded from my own "horizontal belt sanding station" I found out a couple of things. Holy cow, my portable bench sander was loud. The cast iron of a proper bench sander helps to dampen the sound, but I think it's a different type of motor, even.
And... disc sanders are incredibly cost efficient. A roll or box of 50x 6" stick on sanding discs takes up less storage space and costs the same as just a few sanding belts.
Edited: I just realized how negative that sounds. My portable sander was the cheapest one at the store. That Makita looks like a work of art, and the melamine covered birch plywood is SAF. And it's good to see a new video.
