Very insightful episode. While these are large, legitimate studios that fell from their heights, it would be interesting to hear how illegitimate funding worked in the industry. It was almost a given in the 80’s and 90’s that film financing was done by the underworld. An episode on that would be sensational 😄

In Malayalam cinema there was this once famous studio named udaya films that produced films during the 60’s and 70’s and is now revived by the owners son kunchacko boban a leading actor in our industry on 2016
Recently 'Pooja Entertainments' owner 'Vashu Bhagnani' had to sell his office building to pay his debts nor even his employees were given salaries and 'Bade Miyaan Chote Miyaan' turned out to be a box office disaster and in South, the famous telugu producer 'Dil Raju' had suffered a major loss after the debacle of 'Shaakuntalam'.....The 😮 production houses also must invest properly into the movies which have got the right scripts rather than in meaningless action movies and other random meaningless movies.....!😪
Guru Dutt films Pvt Ltd was a great production house in the golden era of Bollywood. However, Guru Dutt's death and Geeta Dutt's death it lost it's power and made several forgettable films post the demise of the founder and his better half. Ranbir Kapoor might won't revive RK Films. Because he has seen his family lost money in Prem Granth and Aa Ab Laut Chalen. Nostalgia can't be the reason for revival. Subjects matter
YRF , Dharma , Balaji Pictures & Rajshri Productions are the only remaining exceptions that they survived & still going strong even if each of their respective film getting flopped
Trimurti Films is another example owned by Rajiv Rai who produced and directed movies like Tridev, Vishwatma, Mohra and Gupt which were all successful. Later productions Pyar Ishq aur Mohabbat and Asambhav did not work out. Rajiv rai had to leave India due to death threat and production house has been inactive since then.
Such an interesting topic for you to cover! Im always interested in the finance side of the film industry. You should also make a video on outrageous fees charged by the actors lately!!
I only have genuine sympathy and feel sad for BR Films and RK Films & Studios. ABCL also had good intentions but poor script choices. Kudos to Mr. Bachchan though for paying off all the debt. Most in his place would have declared bankruptcy. The rest seem driven by shady goals and intentions.
Even if RSVP production didn’t make much money with the films following Uri one must understand that some of them were also majorly OTT releases. Screens and Satellite rights are not the only two avenues where movies make money now. OTT rights is a big factor which is keeping production houses afloat
Bro since the advent of OTT its become much much easier for Producers to recover the cost of their film and moat of the times even make a lot of Profit. I wish back then Producers had this Option. Today even before a movie releases its song rights, OTT streaming rights and TV rights are sold and they make huge profits if its a Good film.
There was this episode in shark tank where some producers came to get money for their movie...there anupam mittal said ki he had once invested in a movie and he never got the money back...abd that movie business is the worst in terms of getting profits
I hope Ranbir directs a movie under RK films banner.. Just for old times sake.. even if it fails, let it have one last hurrah.. "Do not go gentle into that good night"
Interesting subject..Also, make a video about successful production companies in Bollywood. Especially, rise of T- Series company after Gulshan Kumar's death. How both nephew and uncle (Bhushan and Kishan Kumar) despite the tragedy took the company on top both in music as well as film productions. Not to forget T- Series (shuffling between first and second position) is the most subscribed youtube channel in the world today.
A very good and informative video. Here I have to say one thing what is with indian businesses and frauds& debts. It's quite apparent that despite dealing in big monies these organisations are either family owned or one man show another big problem with indian businessmen. Anything this big should go into public share owing which will not only reduce the burden of getting finance for projects but also cushion debt matters if incurred. Another thing you notlce with movie production is that rarely rope in other production houses for a project. Instead of producing 10 flop movies they can give one movie per month with lesser risks. But it's their game so what ever works for them.
The film making business is very fickle and has ruined many. 1950s-60s film stars like Biswajeet, Bhagwan Dada and Bharat Bhushan all did well as actors but lost huge sums of money due to making flop movies. Sad to hear RK studios was sold off. I grew up watching great Raj Kapoor films and hoped his family could keep it going
This reminds me of the haunting visuals presented in saare ke saare akele from Jubilee😢😢 unfortunately that seems to be the reality. Passion for cinema does get suppressed by the burden of financial metrics. Which also impacts directors like Anurag Kashyap who get succumbed to financial pressure and ironically impacts the cinematic liberty.
Let this be a lesson to these production house. BR Films and RK Films with the strongest legacy never evolved to bringing talented people to run the company then rely of nepotistic nature of the industry which eventually led to their downfall. Both the studio I named should have been our answer to Walt Disney and Warner Bros. Again, very lil hope with existing production house too. We need passionate house who care about writers, best in class DOP team, and most importantly sign talent based on acting skills not how much PR they have. A24 in US has revolutionized for a relatively young house❤ what a case study they are for anyone who wants to start their own house.

Atleast invest in good mindless action movies
What looks on paper will be totally different than final outcome.
Difference between a demo and a real project.
Same thing happened with director Puri Jagannath after the failure of Liger
Guru Dutt films Pvt Ltd was a great production house in the golden era of Bollywood.
However, Guru Dutt's death and Geeta Dutt's death it lost it's power and made several forgettable films post the demise of the founder and his better half.
Ranbir Kapoor might won't revive RK Films. Because he has seen his family lost money in Prem Granth and Aa Ab Laut Chalen.
Nostalgia can't be the reason for revival.
Subjects matter
Great report!! Though a few more could be added to this list...Bhagwan Dada, Navketan films, Govinda's Dad, Bharat Bhushan etc
Am i only one who have heard the Rajpal Yadav movie name for the first time 😮
While researching, I heard it for the first time too!
same here
YRF , Dharma , Balaji Pictures & Rajshri Productions are the only remaining exceptions that they survived & still going strong even if each of their respective film getting flopped
About Dharma..... 😅😅😅😅
Really love these financial aspects of the film industry. Would love to see a similar video on the film distribution business
I must say that your thumbnail game is interesting.
Insightful video. There is indeed a complex machinery at play behind hindi movies. Wonder how this compares with production companies in Hollywood!
16:28 bro he would never after the failure of Jagga Jasoos😭
Subrata Roy was ahead of his time. Had he been rising after 2014, friendship with the right people would have made him invincible.
Aa Ab Laut Chalen is one of my all-time favourite movies. Good story, good direction, good songs and great performances!
AWWW THAT WAS A GD VIDEO DEAR JAMMY ❤❤
Such an interesting topic for you to cover! Im always interested in the finance side of the film industry. You should also make a video on outrageous fees charged by the actors lately!!
I only have genuine sympathy and feel sad for BR Films and RK Films & Studios. ABCL also had good intentions but poor script choices. Kudos to Mr. Bachchan though for paying off all the debt. Most in his place would have declared bankruptcy. The rest seem driven by shady goals and intentions.
Nice content jammy👍
Yet people say why Producers/directors don't give chance to outsiders. ☹️☹️
6:06 Jumbo was my childhood.... I had forgotten all about it until now
You also should've added Phantom pictures in the list
Phantom is back with help from reliance
Even if RSVP production didn’t make much money with the films following Uri one must understand that some of them were also majorly OTT releases. Screens and Satellite rights are not the only two avenues where movies make money now. OTT rights is a big factor which is keeping production houses afloat
Bro since the advent of OTT its become much much easier for Producers to recover the cost of their film and moat of the times even make a lot of Profit. I wish back then Producers had this Option. Today even before a movie releases its song rights, OTT streaming rights and TV rights are sold and they make huge profits if its a Good film.
This was such an informative video, would love to see more of this and the bts of films discussed on the channel.
There was this episode in shark tank where some producers came to get money for their movie...there anupam mittal said ki he had once invested in a movie and he never got the money back...abd that movie business is the worst in terms of getting profits
Awesome!! Thanks for this beautiful video
I really really like your channel ❤ Not a movie buff but I have watched almost all your videos
The biggest praise should be given to Mehboob Studios , its still there running ❤
7:07 Fun Fact: Aamir Khan and Karisma Kapoor were in a movie produced by ABCL called ‘Loveria’ and Kareena visited that set.
I hope Ranbir directs a movie under RK films banner.. Just for old times sake.. even if it fails, let it have one last hurrah.. "Do not go gentle into that good night"
1:22 I knew it was a dubious enterprise.
Karan Johar is somewhat smart with productions recent example kill he made huge profits from remake rights and ott rights
Jammy one correction. BR chopra films co produced the 2017 remake of Ittefaq with red Chillies & dharma. Directed by Abhay Chopra 😊
This is just a suggestion but I think you should try making longer video essays. Cause you are very proficient with videos like this
What about Feroz Khan productions? He was pretty good up until Dayavaan. Sadly, after that, things went south for him also.
That pre covid hit example gave away that you are referring to RSVP.
7:45 is it copyright.?why the blurr image's in middle of videos..?
Great research bro
Jammy. . You forgot that one masterpiece that Sahara One produced. . 'DOR' by Nagesh Kukunoor!!! Its still one of the best ones to be produced. ❤❤❤❤
You missed out Subhash Ghai and his company Mukta Arts, Tips Films, Manmohan Desai, Prakash Mehra etc...
Manmohan desai's adlabs is now 50% Reliance Entertainment and 50% Carnival Cinemas
RSVP Movies: URI, they had to shelve Aditya Dhar's Ashwathama due to this
Interesting subject..Also, make a video about successful production companies in Bollywood.
What About UTV ?? It Was Big Production House between 2000- 2010
They Used to Release One Movie Every Month of the Year
Disney shut it down.
9:26 Jammy being so subtle yet clear 😂😂😂
A very good and informative video. Here I have to say one thing what is with indian businesses and frauds& debts. It's quite apparent that despite dealing in big monies these organisations are either family owned or one man show another big problem with indian businessmen. Anything this big should go into public share owing which will not only reduce the burden of getting finance for projects but also cushion debt matters if incurred. Another thing you notlce with movie production is that rarely rope in other production houses for a project. Instead of producing 10 flop movies they can give one movie per month with lesser risks. But it's their game so what ever works for them.
Interesting video!! Please make such more!
9:32 TRUER WORDS
Is it RSVP productions that you are talking of in the end?
Loved the video and the research put into it! Btw which production house is he talking about at the end?
16:39 is it about RSVP ??
i think you are right
seems so
Rsvp ?? Which movie did they produce?

High risk , high returns, high chances of failure. I salute all brave producers. Enterprise is not for all .
I like this style of narration, earlier when used to feel a little robotic
Would love to know more about successful production houses like Excel Entertainment
Reminds me of AVM Studios in Chennai.😢
13:21 I have a memory of seeing the poster for this.
12:58 that's why these movies are available in youtube😮😮
Posted many times, keep it short n sweet bro
IMO Alia should direct movies and RK should produce them.
13:47 A BRILLIANT SERIES.
Well put
I still feel excel entertainment, jio studios, raajkamal , hombale studios aatpaat production have a chance !
@@jaschowdhari3463 Rajkumar hirani films and Aamir khan films also

Running a production company is no child's play. And i always feel that artists should refrain from starting one as they are not good with numbers
I remember reading an interview of the owner of percept picture company probably in Stardust long ago. He clearly said that they went bankrupt because he paid 70cr to Akshay Kumar for 8x10 Tasveer 😮
Please do a video on the product house which are doing well
