- WhiskyJason reviews The Glenlivet Licensed Dram The Original Stories aged 12 years Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Glenlivet Licensed Dram is a tribute to the founder George Smith. The Glenlivet founder began producing his world-famous single malt in the remote Livet Valley in 1824. At the time, the pioneer was the first to receive a license to distill in the valley. Today, the Glenlivet distillery is one of the largest and most important malt whisky producers internationally.

Not a big commenter but I've been watching every day for a year or more. I bought an old dusty Nadurra at a local grocery store in the little backwater of LaPlace LA where Scotch is not a big thing. Bottled in 2010, it had a 16-yr age statement and 54.4% ABV. Everyone on UA-cam was talking about peated cask Nadurra at the time and age statements were gone. So I recognized it as a rare find of something that should have disappeared a few years before. It still has a couple inches left but I think I should take a pour right now to help finish it off. I always thought that tasting the plain, bourbon cask-matured whiskey at cask strength without color or chill filtration was a revelation for even Glenlivet. It comes alive and has way more character than the 12, which was all I knew. Great video, great approach and great output on UA-cam that is getting noticed!! I've been watching for years intermittently, but now all the time.
The 16 is/was a "no-shit" whisky. The NAS bottles are not something I'm spending $100 on.
Glenlivet does single cask releases which can get expensive.
And the independent bottles are out there, but these Story offerings are difficult to argue with.
thanks for the encourement
thanks Jack
We don't always have to agree do we? I think the Licensed Dram is an improvement to the Illicit still and I'm so pleased that Glenlivet, a really great distillery, are releasing whisky for serious whisky fans once again (following their miserable venture into NAS and poor abv). I think the Illicit Still has no problem with the finish. I think they've used some quality ex-bourbon casks in this expression and that is something a distillery like Glenlivet can deliver. The standard of casks seems to me to be getting poorer and poorer in the whisky world. Excellent distillate and cask management. I gripe a lot about whisky but I can't fault this. (I can find fault in Clynelish 14 however. There's been quite a lot of batch variation over the years. It's sometimes very good and sometimes distinctly mediocre.) Cheers Jason. WT
We can disagree but we don't. Plus Clynlish and other Diageo favorites that have come across WTube lately, eg. Oban and Craggenmore 12 are very close to $100.
C'mon Man, that's a lot of money for mediocre whisky.
The illicit still was $55 but it's a decent whisky. Looking forward to finding this new one.
Clynelish has massive batch variations from ok to super
good luck hunting
@@jackthepickledhound I think it's well worth a buy. I just love solid ex-bourbon cask whisky. Glenlivet have the muscle to get good casks. For those that have missed out on those incredible Bimber expressions this will make a fine alternative and it's cheaper.
Your prediction about prices skyrocketing was very accurate... One we skip the Glenlivet, Clynelish 14 or Glenmorangie 14 Quinta Ruban if they have the same price? THANK YOU
Thanks!
Wow, that's fantasy for me. Clynelish 14 is $80 here in Michigan, usa
often the price difference is just crazy!
Dun forget ur favorite 45 euros bunnahabhain 12 Jason👀
bunnahabhain 12 has a lot of sherry too!
I have had one mediocre Clynelush 14... Hioopefully the next bottle will be better. I gave up on Glenlivet long ago...
you gave up - wow!!
@@WhiskyJason1 I have found it to be boring for a long time now...
