Conking from a competitive badminton back ground Yonex makes the hands down best quality court shoes. They come in all widths….I like Aerus 3 but there are wider models as well….great traction and good wear quality..
Thank you for that piece of info. I’ve seen Yonex shoes for sale but because I’m not familiar with the brand, I always gave them a skip. Happy to know someone uses them so I’ll consider them next time. Appreciate the feedback 🙏🏾
Hey Squashbagel, thanks for the thorough review! I wanted to know if the Gel Blade 8's have a wide forefoot? Also how is the cushioning? I am around 100 kg and move around quite alot on the court but I have flat feet and usually have to size up. (I am a size 11.5 but have to wear size 12s). Would a size 11.5 fit me or should I stick with the 12?
Hey there. If you mean forefoot as the width around the ball of your feet then yes, it is quite wide on the outside but seems to be the same regular mould that they use. I can’t complain about the cushioning to be honest, but I’ve been experimenting with glute and hip flexor activation to help the load on my knees (I’m 90kg) and that has really helped. Compared to the Gek Blade 7s though, a lot more comfortable. Based on what I have seen and peoples different shape with respect to feet, I would suggest trying them on… some players like Adidas if they have wide feet or the size up or down based on the fit. Unfortunately I wouldn’t want to advise you on the size because comfort and fit to you is really important when making that investment.
Thanks for the video, I’m struggling to find a light squash shoe equivalent to the Salming Hawk 2s I’ve killed at the end of last season, last legs halfway through the current. They’re said to weigh 386g, do you happen to know any shoes that are closest in weight? I have an OCD with heavy shoes hindering movement/overworking the calves.😅 The Gel-blade 8 look good but unsure of how heavy they feel, have you any feedback on them? Cheers Elliot
Hey Elliot, sorry for the late response. I found them quite clunky, to be honest. I have transitioned into another since making this video, the Adidas Ligra 7s. For me, they feel better than the Blade 8s, but some other players love the Blade 8s and swear by them. For a light shoe, try something from Mizuno or Salming in my opinion. I have never tried Salming shoes, but I hear that they are comfortable.
Does the gel blade 8 fit true to size? Does it feel narrow or normal width?
Hey @Deekay13
Normal width.
If you've ever had an Asics shoe, other than a squash shoe, the size would be the same.

This is the video I needed. Thanks a lot!
Hey Quinten
I am glad the video helped.
