Love how the dogs decided to leave once you started bringing the lift down. You could see them thinking - Nope, I am out of here. Smart dogs!
My thoughts exactly! 😂😂😂
Border collies..
Smart as hell!
LOL thought the same thing😂😂😂
ha ha....my thoughts exactly!
I saw that too and thought that they were kinda like “who me? Help out?…. no no no, I’m too busy, I gotta see a man about a horse….”
How wonderful your getting oak timber to recycle into the Chateau from another old building. Love it !
oh yes...adding another piece of history into the Chateau---so cool!
I was thinking the exact same thing. There’s a lot of new material going into the Château, but it’s amazing to see how much is being recycled.
Can not wait to see it!
Thanks for not keeping the part with the lifter on the stairs out.
I like the (very recognisable) look of "oh, shit!" On your face! 😂
I have to say I just never get tired of watching this channel, Dan. I don't always comment, but I'm always clicking the like button!😊
Ditto !
The old music, you working solo - start of the project vibes ❤ love what you’re doing Dan
I love that music!
Sort of like when he began all alone.
Yay,you have managed to enthuse local craftsmen to get in with mending this hugely important historic building Dan you are brilliant🥰
The biggest difference with all the panelling and plaster off.. is it feels less of a ruin and more of a work in progress! 😀
You’re right. It now feels more like a renovation.
An end to removing stuff that has to go.
Getting to a surface that can stay, and be built onto.
That's exactly what I came to say!
Dan - the hardest working man in Vlog-business 🥳💪😎
Once all the burn marks are gone, it's essentially a "new construction" work site. Good work, Dan.
Hi Dan. What a great job you are doing. I’ve done a few renos myself although not nearly as big as yours. The reason for my comment is to give you a great piece of advice which can strengthen up the crumbling mortar in the château.
Look up EM-1. This is a microbial inoculated which you may have heard for in your gardening activities. However the reason mortar left outside gets crumbly is that it is being attacked by malicious microorganisms. By spraying the walls with EM-1 you can out compete them and the mortar will harden up again. I’m sure this is available in Europe and I have no vested interest in suggesting it other than to see you succeed at bringing the château to life again. Please keep up the good work and videos. Tommy.
Sounds like a really good idea.
Hopefully you see this comment. This would work really well to spray before pointing the walls or plastering. All the Best.
Clearing the deck, blank canvas - pick your own words. This building hasn't the age to demand that it be slavishly recreated to it's original form. It's obviously undergone substantial revisions in the past. Now, it's Dan's turn to bring his vision for the future into being. Carry on, Dan!
I agree. lt is a blank slate to do whatever he likes.
@@inmcity I hope he makes it a bed & breakfast! I'd visit.
Its hard for me to watch the original detail being destroyed, but it has been preserved on these segments so that it could be recreated. Having restored/ rebuilt a protected George II miller’s house in Ireland and found precious little to retain I get it.
@@bill90405 I know how you feel. l grew up and still live near Colonial Williamsburg and have always been interested in historic buildings. l am sure Dan will create appropriate paneling and moldings for the character of the chateau. l think the entry hall was the only place with any type of woodwork left to copy.
its going to be his home.@SolarEnergy4514
It's amazing what one man can get done on his own. Staggering really.
He's had a lot of help, its not just him !
@ ha yes I’m well aware of that. He was alone that day.
Gotta say, it makes me nervous watching him swing that saw around so casually without anyone else around.
It's a completely different style home, but a Canadian man built a log home, furniture, outbuildings & an entire homestead by himself, almost totally with only hand tools. No power saws, drills, anything! It's amazing & beautiful. The " My Self Reliance" channel. Shawn James did a garden, planted fruit trees, hunts, cans, makes his own maple syrup from the trees, almost NOTHING he can't do by himself.
@@grahamricketts-bq1ftremember Brian and Nick are rotating the weeks they work.
I agree with your decision to remove the ceiling. Running the electric, plumbing, insulation, and anthing else is much easier. Then replacing the rotten beams, a breeze. Very exciting about the old wood. You'll be like a kid in a candy store.
I'm SO GLAD you made it down those last stairs in one piece, and with great dignity! LOLOL
The dogs leaving was the best part!!! Very smart indeed!
These are my favorite videos, old school style, Dan by himself working away but taking the time to catch all those cinematic shots as the music plays away. Perfection
….without a helmet.
Or a mask.
OMGosh!! Even the dogs knew to run when you were coming down the ramp with the lift.😂😂😂😂
I purchased the wainscoting and oak stair treads from an old mansion that was going to be torn down. The wainscoting had a panel that was signed and dated by the craftsman who built it. The paneling was used to build a china cabinet and some of the stair treads made into a drop leaf dining table I created.
How much recognition…. I used all removed wood for heating too. What a project you are doing!!!! Respect
140 year old wood should burn nicely
I like that you & your crew are doing the deconstruction, and every tiny bit of history is noted. It can't all be saved, but photos of the past allow voices to speak. A full-on demo crew would miss tiny hints. So much 💖 goes into this project.
Your work ethic is so admirable! Such a legacy for your boys
2:48 😂 That voice actually made me LOL! “Get those kids off the grass!” We know you’re trying to preserve as much of the original details as possible, but some things are just not salvageable. Great video! If those walls could talk... 🏰✨
Well done "today Dan"! Tomorrow Dan will enjoy what you have completed today. Thank you for taking us along!
I can hear Nick and Brian laughing at Dan taking the lifter down the ramp - or should I say, the lifter taking Dan down the ramp!
Where are Nick and Brian?
Yes , where are they..😮
@@GenaF They work two weeks and have two week off.
the dogs left the building pretty sharpish🤣
I was half expecting a shout from Dan . Am fine after he disappeared down the stairs. lol.
Sometimes our canine friends demonstrate a savvy far beyond our comprehension. The hoist towing a human behind it, making its involuntary downwards travel a case in point. Just so funny Dan, and could have gone horribly wrong! Keep safe.
I hope someday theres an oversized, glossy picture, book of before, during and after pics with paragraphical descriptions of each phase! A Chateau history book if you will!! ❤❤❤
Truly, do not feel guilty getting rid of any of the finishes from the structure. They sat exposed to the elements for decades and are completely unsuitable for a habitable building.
Absolutely 💯. I also understand that this Chateau was slated for demolition. If this is the case, then the government didn't recognize it as historically important enough to be worth saving, and it doesnt appear that the community objected or they would have been appealing to their politicians and raising funds to save it. No, Dan the Man had the vision, the interest and the nerves of steel to roll up his sleeves, get to work and save this grand lady. I figure that Dan had to weigh all matters including time and available resources from supplies, people, money, etc.
If you want to help Dan, please "like" and comment on his videos. I also allow commercials to play out when I can.
We have to give Dan a big thankyou, the time he spends giving us the different shots when making these videos, takes so much time out of his really busy day. But the result is a very professional video not only doing a great renovation he is a very professional videographer too. Best acvount on Utube 👍👍
Dan, every decision you make is thoughtful and aligned with the vision you have for your home. We are just thrilled to be along for the daily updates! 🎉🎉
❤ and one day he is going to be able to sit back and say "I built this!"
What a bonus receiving the oak Dan. Things are really taking shape now. Very exciting.
Thumbs up! How lucky can you be getting old Oak from another old building! That will sure help in keeping the Chateau looking somewhat original.
So funny when you were bringing the lift down the stairs, the dogs decided to get the h€ll out of there. I wish you had help getting it down though. You did a great job as usual 👍👏👏👏👏👏👏
I love the details that you are taking out I bet originally the chateau had a lot of it and was even more gorgeous than the photos Dan has after a remodel when I suspect some of the details were sadly removed I know Dan will put it back as close to original and as much as he can thank you again Dan for bringing us along.
Last ceiling down 🎉 The news about all that oak sounds great! 🎉
The chateua looks and feels (albeit it through a screen) very different these days. All good though. Great job Dan 😊
Anybody remember Dan not finishing the second arch on top floor for months because it was so tedious? Mason guy is great just for that!
I love watching how the dogs just go in and out. No worries. That's their chateau! It is amazing the amount of work you get done.😊
I'm so addicted to your channel. I watch every episode and marvel at your work ethic and strength. Keep up the excellent work, videos and adventure attitude. I so admire you and the boys!
I love the delight you took in attacking that last ceiling! And also how you wickedly show us your rolling the dry wall lifter down the stairs, knowing that all of us granny-types (read sensible people) will be imagining you rolling straight out the window below!! But, Dan! Pleaaaase be careful. I'm looking forward to seeing how much oak is delivered tomorrow.
Dan, you’re a adventurous worker.
I really like your style 😂❤😂
Build by someone, restored by you Dan. It's your treasure 🎉🎉🎉
That’s awesome about the oak and you have all the machinery to mill it properly too😊
I love those videos the most, where you're just working by yourself on simple things
Dan, taking out that ceiling was pretty cool. You work so hard and never seem down, still smiling and whistling most days. I love your sunny disposition.
Cheers alway.
Mock us, will you? :) It’s true that I loved the elegant look of that ceiling but it’s also true that building it back new, using steel beams and new plaster, will be structurally better. I’m so glad to hear you talk about processing and reusing old oak. I trust that you will put the charming elements back when the time comes. As a subscriber I will watch and comment every step along the way.
Love the reusing of the old oak!! Looking great!!
Tomorrow Dan will come up with a plan I’m sure. Too good an opportunity to miss with someone clearing the oak. Especially if it’s dry (and can be kept dry). Great result and work by you and the Masons this week.
Thanks for inviting us along for today's work.
I love this channel. Been watching from the start. I am a lot older, but it still makes me get excited to think about a project like this. What vision you have!
At least it's not turning in to: 'Chateau Binky'.
The first few seconds are actually kinda sad. I was seriously impressed that you were still able to drag that panel out in one piece after all that has happened to it in the past decades. ;)
I don’t know why but that ceiling reminded me of the Titanic Wreck. Destroyed but beautiful in its own way.
Sad to see the old wood go, but I'm looking forward to seeing it recreated!
Wheelbarrow after wheelbarrow after wheelbarrow. It’s like eating an elephant. You have to do it one bite at a time, and keep doing it. Filled with respect for Dan and his team.
Where is he putting all the rubble? There's literally tons coming out of the chateau every month, if not week. Is it staying on site or is he paying to take it away?
@@cv990a4much of the rubble was disposed of was used land fill for the driveway and parking area.
@@cv990a4Nick has been dumping and leveling it all down near the gate and made a car park 😊
Good about the old oak !🫸🫷❤️🇨🇦
Packing that lift down the "stairs" the dog scuttled out of there fast saying, "Lookout! Dan's at it again!" :o)
This is going to nice having the old Oak wood for the Chateau I'm sure you will find a use for it! Keep crackin on!
I really liked the way you spoke to us. Today. That was funny. Its
Great you take heed of what we say
I know it was a bit scary taking the lift down the ramp/stairs, but I did have to laugh when it almost took off without you on the lower section. 😂 Wonderful news re the recycled oak! 👏😊
Absolutely astounded by your progress. Looking forward to the finished project
So graceful coming down the stairs! Actually very good you didn't get hurt.
Its hilarious when Dan mocks some of the commenters opinions on saving everything!!! 🤣🤣👍🏼👍🏼
To be fair, a lot of viewers have no clue about the building industry and it must drive Dan nuts to have them constantly acting like they know more than him so I don't blame him.
Like Dan said, much of the woodwork inside the chateau can be found new online because they're not unique.

Great progress over the winter season. Can’t wait to watch you power ahead once the weather warms. Watching from Victoria Australia 🇦🇺
Bonjour Dan, Great job that you did in this room, quite a change to to say the least. I am glad that you told us about the ceiling and it will be no problem to get it all done with new material. Again, great job, Dan. ❤❤
This is getting more and more enchanting!!! I do hope you can redo that ceiling floor) you took down as beautiful as it was - or more! Thank you for sharing this adventure with us! Can't wait to see Nick and Brian back to work with you! We know Brian is having a grand week. :D
Jeez glad Dan got the prep before the stair trick, glad your replacing some stuff 👍have a good night
I like looking at the brick walls with the plaster off. Its like the building can breath and is drying out. The color of the brick is pretty too.
Yes I know we love Nick and Brian and yes they are desperately needed but…..how I love the videos with just Dan
......eine komplizierte Bauphase, wie mir scheint...........gutes Gelingen.........step by step.......Gruss aus Germany
Coming along very nicely . The cellar is amazing space.
How cool having aged oak coming tomorrow Dan. Nice job on your lonesome today ❤. Loved watching see yer tomorrow ❤🎉
This whole journey is a well documented treasure 🎉
We have to remember this is not an old Chateau merely two adult lifetimes. Therefore the decoration either refers back to what was roughly current at end of 19century or was relative to post WWI.
0:30 I love the fact that even though you have been working on this house for over a year, she’s still telling secrets
Always a joy to see another floor replacement ongoing. More noggins soon 😊
Good Job! Yeah, you can recreate that ceiling whenever you want later. Saving that one wouldn't be much of a benefit...
Yeah, it rained into that floor for roughly 35ish years. These beams are compromised and it would do more for stability to get steel in.
It’s so lovely how, now, you get to see and record for prosperity the marks and signatures of previous builders of the chateau ❤❤
This is such a great time for this renovation, there is so much visible progress happening that it's easy to get excited about everything!
If this were in the US, a building of this age and size would have a lot of the trim ordered from a catalog or done with molds and jigs the construction crew would carry from job to job. What was left looked nice, but seemed very standard.
Kind of sad to see some of the old wood. A new beginning has begun. Stay safe and warm
It is amazing to have got this far, all walls cleared off, all the floors pretty much sorted. It is a great watershed. It will generate a great change of focus. You are moving down to the next project on the mega ‘to do’ list. Well done! And Good Luck!!
Fantastic progress. You never fail to amaze and inspire ✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅✅
Please do try to find little bits and pieces of the old interior that you can include in the new version (a panel here, a hinge there…). It will be special to point out to visitors and helps to connect the old with the new. We did this a bit with an old house we renovated in Connecticut, with hindsight I wish we had saved more.
I do love that background music you play always takes me back to you digging out the ground floor with orange pant man😊
I’m sure Nick and Brian will be rather impressed with how you managed to bring down the lift (although truth be told the lift seemed to more in charge towards the end 🤣🤣🤣)
You are your own person Dan and we all love you for it ….. so we agree with you stern NO !!😎😁
Without a doubt the removing of all the plaster has left a totally different “look” which is so
much better than looking at the crumbling plaster .. till tomorrow then😉DurbanSA🇿🇦
Yes, love the panels
Dan, I just love your tenacity!!! You just get on and do what has to be done.
Of the other 3 chateau channels I follow YOU are the stand out , you WORK REALLY HARD!!!
Thank you also for your efforts to change camera angles to give us a feel for the work.
I admire you a great deal.
Hi everyone❤smash crash bash, bring it down ,build it back. Love watching the progress
Well done on getting the lifter down. I know the ceiling you put back will be great and getting the old oak is a bonus
Dan, as my Texas granny always said: 'bless your heart'. Was wishing you had some help, but you did it all by yourself. Good job!
I have a feeling that Dan has a team working behind the scenes. There's no way he could produce videos so quickly while managing all the construction. In one episode, I even noticed someone using an expensive steadicam.
@@MASTER3RDEYE TV also film there for a programme shown in the UK. It may have been them.
@@MASTER3RDEYE You're wrong, he films and editing all by himself.
That is AMAZING that you guys are going to get a bunch of oak for use in the chateau! Especially because 1.) it is old/historic 2.) will give you a chance to try out all your new gadgets and 3.) I'm assuming it is either cheap or free!
Wow Dan watching you alone working at the Chateau, takes me back to when you first purchased this beauty. It was just you and the Chateau....mostly. Then you got a little help from your friends and sponsors came on board.....look at us now! So much progress. Love watching you go for your dreams! Also love your little digs at Brian and Nick when they are not there to defend themselves 😂 Watching you coming down "the stairs" with that lifter....I am amazed you don't have back problems......eeeeeek lol
You work so hard, it’s amazing. I held my breath when you brought the lifter down the stairs though! 😳
So weird to see Dan taking out a floor without overhanging bathroom furnishings and small trees. It's really looking like an (almost sane) regular construction site!
Love the way the dogs left the chateau post. Hence, when they saw and heard you bringing the heavy winch down! Good judges 😂
Ooh glad you and the lifter made it down the stairs Dan 😮😀😮 fantastic job 🎉
The Dog had the right idea he got out of the way quick.
I can understand how it might have needed to be done, but there is a bit of a bittersweet poignancy about the last ghosts of the the chateau's interior being gone. I could look at the elaborate ceiling and the bits of paneling and get a vision of how elegant it all once was.
He'll make it beautiful I'm sure, perhaps more than before. From the few interior photos seen it was pretty ordinary, nothing special.
"... to protect it for a longer time...". Are you kidding? The Chateau de Chaumont will easily last another 200 years. ❤
You are working so hard. Every day there's something done. It's getting there, I can feel it. I'm cheering for you every time. What you can do by yourself, on top of filming, it's incredible. Yes this is a pep talk via text just in case you need it.
Hello, our darling, Dan and crew.❤ How great is finding someones signature on an old paneling piece. You definitely need to preserve that panel and add it to the preservation efforts to add to the archives of Chateau de Charmont. Maybe Osmo the signature and hang it in the room you found it. Amazing find.
That lift has certainly paid for itself!
