This interior is inspired by Knight Rider. It was Pontiac's response to all the clamoring of people asking them if they had the Knight Rider car. Pretty cool in my opinion.
Nice video! I have a black 1992 Trans Am GTA, and I bought an entire digital dash with all of the harnesses to swap into my car. I'm thinking about swapping out my airbag steering wheel for one like yours too.
the GTA was at the cutting edge of tecno stuff...for the era...the corvette of 1984 was already using the all digital gauges and info read outs....and the Camaro berlinetta was too...before the GTA.....but those cars didnt have the radio controls in the steering wheel...//the over-head console was more common in the GTA then the Z-28 but could be optioned in either car
Artificial speed signal on a bench...that's an ingenious idea! That puts me a step closer to just folding on trying to find a digital dash GTA and just doing a dash swap later.
good luck finding out. I have two of them. and the last i have ever seen them around online was around 2008. I would get one from a 1987 1986. those were the 2 years before the VATS system. this is so if you dont have the right key to go with the car you dont have to worry.. the vats system was a nightmare for me
You said you had the security deleted off of the computer. If I got a digital dash swap, could the mileage the re-flashed to whatever holds that information to what the car actually has on it?
I really had to go back into the video and comments to see exactly what your talking about. Firebirds, Camaros and mustangs for the 80's era are being slapped together, painted and then you have people on line trying to make big money tying to sell trash. I have a 86 mustang GT WORTH restoring with 41000 original miles and that too is appraised high..hold onto that camaro, its gonna be worth money in the near future. I feel firebirds will be worth more simply cause pontiac is no more. my opinion
Yes, I had the security deleted of the computer so I can bypass the V.A.T.S System. as far as the miles go, its recorded in the cluster itself. Im not sure on how to do that. Ive met somebody that took the dash and put it on a bench and ran power to it as if the car was driving at 150 mph and let it sit till the odometer rolled back to zero and then let it run till it matched the miles on the actual car.
I just bought the 87, almost everything the same, for 3200 with 120K original on it, for the most part all original with a few performance upgrades, digital dash, gold rims, and little flashlight included. Just need to replace a few relays and slap a new paint job on her and boom pretty as the day she rolled off the lot.
I agree completely, I see guys with Camaros trying to sell theirs with like 150k miles, rust, and mis-matched rims for almost as much as I paid for mine lol its crazy. But yes, I'd hold onto the GT! I had a 89 with the 302, rag top, slate gray paint with a white interior and the 5 speed manual, and factory alloy rim option... all original, and sadly I let it go. Don't make my mistake lol
Great video! I am actually in the market for a trans am gta myself (dont mind my user name haha) I just wanted ask you if you think the gta is worth buying. I just dont know if the old electrics are more trouble than their worth. I really like the 88-92 trans am body style. And frankly, you can get A LOT of car for your money. Let me know what you think if you can!
Dude awesome video on your GTA's interior. I always wanted to know what some of those things actually did because my 87 GTA has the normal stuff Analog dash, 3 spoke steering wheel, A/C manual control nothin special but your car is loaded!
Nice vid I have the same exact setup for the first year made '86 t/a its factory setup but I have to fix it because my odometer is not showing all the numbers
Hi ! i have a tech question, Please : i have also a 1988 Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am. But, on mine, i think i got a problem = the gear shift console (automatic transmission selector) do not show the gear which is engaged (for exemple by a red or fluorescent needle/arrow, or an extra back-highlight). On your Firebird, do you have such a factory system that show wich gear is actually selected ? Thanks by advance for your answer.
+thetonio38 Thirdgens don't have indicators to show which gear you're in until 88 or 89 for the Camaro and 90 or 91 for the Firebird. Earlier cars just have the shift PATTERN with no true indicator. Count the notches or line up the lever with the letter/number, vs move the shifter until the orange light shows next to/through the gear you want to be in. hope this explains a bit.
I'm looking for the dogital dash for my '88 trans am rebuild. Also the overhead console, steering wheel with button controls, and equalizer cassette stereo. And some louvers + '86 rear wing fwiw
It was just a resistor. Really simple these days to bypass with a permanent dummy resistor. Something like a 1% precision resistor should do. There are only 15 possible values.
Could be the buttons are not making contact. if you take that apart very very carefully, you can disassemble the button pod and clean everything. You can also change out the lights bulbs on your dash to LEDs but it has to be with the dash taken apart because the bulbs wont fit from behind like the stock ones.
Sam DiBella I miss my GTA, I still havve the digital dash and most parts in my basement. I dont know weather to hold onto them foir another GTA or give it up and sell the parts
Sam DiBella the years vary in wire locations in the terminals of the engine harness to bulkhead connector. 1988 should match up with a 1988 f body no mater what it is. the only issue here is, you need the sensors that tell you the doors are open, sensors sensorr sensors... its a big big job, which would require a donor car.
Found an 88 with the WS6 wheels and Rubber spoiler, so I'm not sure if it's a GTA or not. I'm assuming not, but idk. it's white with the 305ci 5.0l F.I.
Damn I like third gens!!! I have digital dash in my 88 and few weeks ago I made a new video of it (digital dash too). Ony problem is my board computer doesn’t work. :-(
parts are still widespread for this car. there are two yards I know of that specialize in ONLY firebird parts. Also companies like classic industries are mass reproducing these parts. so, Unless its a 1LE Firebird or a Turbo Trans Am its not rare or worth a ton of money. 1985 was introductory year of the TPI engine. Miles and Condition are Key to making a older car purchase. For that price It better be Near mint and in stock condition. No butcher work or shotty paint. Give me the details on it.
Love it .....!!! Sure miss the dig age of tha 80's, I once thought the future would be all dig. & touch screen Tec. Well the future is here n Seem's things like digital dash, heads up display, touch screen/voice activated has died out what happened to all though's kool Dreams ......?????? Once shaired by us all.
i would say so.. ebery GM car Ive eber owned had great sound.. and it was always because of those 6x9's lol.. These dashes are rare, I have two of them.
I like the description of the systems check but I think it would have been better if ET had did this video. He would propably know exactly what the system checks stand for . Since he was also from the 1980s and had the same setup in the spaceship. either him or david hasslehoff. But i think et would be funnier. At the end of the video he could rip out one of the seats and put a wig on it and a face on the front of the headrest and hump it. Since the seats look so much like et. IMAO
Wow there is a lot of little cool gadgets. You can't get that stuff in a new car. I miss things like that give a car it's own personality. Now cars are more regulation focused than people focused. You see when you don't treat cars as disposable you realize people have these little things called fingers, therefore you want to give people cool buttons to press and knobs to turn. Can I get an Amen?
@carlos64030 do it, its very very easy.. I have alot of parts left over if your interested in buying anything... My E-mail is X905SpeedGTAx@aol.com. send me a E-mail if you need anything.. Im looking to unload my garage
88 gta that was sitting and in rough shape?..for 5 grand?.. tell your parents to get your money back you were ripped off...if you really wanna keep the car I can talk to you about restoring it.. ill msg you later
lol a beat ass 88 GTA for 5 grand?? that was a good one right there... haha im still laughing.. You pretty much cant give these cars away, HOWEVER I will say this, my 87 IROC z/28 in good condtion was valued at $16,000 dollars by my insurance company with 80,000 miles on it. nothing special about it really, just a 350 iroc-z no mods or anything.. SOOOooo the value in the book is high, but on the streets 800 bucks is more like it for a beat 88 GTA
This looks so 80s style it is wonderful. I just love the disco-anime fonts and gauges.

The Camaro never had a digital dash, it wasn’t an option. For some reason only the trans am had the option
@@luuuke2484 berlinetta had a digital dash since 82 my man
Biggus Dickus yep. My bad, I did some digging and found out about the Berlinetta a couple weeks ago.
Wow.. that is a sweet interior I have a sudden urge to get one, I would love to see it if its completed
If only I had the money for one of these. This is BEYOND awesome.

Do the radio controls on the wheel work with the aftermarket radio?
Good job with the restoration.
Pontiacs always came with an excess of buttons. This is no exception. 80's to 90's.
You said you had the security deleted off of the computer. If I got a digital dash swap, could the mileage the re-flashed to whatever holds that information to what the car actually has on it?
can you get a different stero to still work with the steering wheel controls if so where thanks
Tim, Its not that Easy when you have a VATS module that Failed. I understand about the resistors. But when that actual module goes bad its bad

Honestly, i wish 4th gens adapted digital gauges and functions. I really like it. I had a 3rd gen formula too, but with analog gauges.
Oh man, if you have the wiring and if it still works I would buy it off of you...
I have an 88 GTA as well, but somehow I missed out on the cool interior, it's just like the later gtas

Would you happen to have a D.I.C button pod? mines works but i need the buttons with the labels intact.
