i just completed the Bruce trail labor day weekend. started in 2007. basically did the trail in 30 hiking days. over 9 years. feels great to have completed it.
Jeff M, congratulations on covering all the ground! We are so fortunate to have a backyard like this. The bull was an adrenaline rush for sure. My biggest issue was rough weather and farm dogs, to be honest! Glad I didn't find that electric fence you speak of.
awesome video it brought back some fond memories for me. that was a tad unnerving hiking thought a field with a bull in it. i also remember hiking along the trail on the caledon section and all i heard was the electrc fence humming.
The man-made obstacles were sometimes as challenging as the natural ones! It certainly kept me on my toes. My biggest challenge was weather situations and farm dogs. Farm dogs took the cake I'd say.
Super Awesome hike dude! I'm from Burlington and have hiked many sections myself and can concur that it is astoundingly beautiful and serene! Also, what was the second song? It was really good and it's gonna remind me of the wilderness of home!
Hey Luca, thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences on the trail. Beautiful and serene does't cut it for some spots. The 2nd song is just a guitar lick I made called "Transcedence"- I might put some of those recordings out Soundcloud sometime soon :)
I've wanted to to East just as much as West and I'd be happy to remember this connections! Likewise if you're ever down in the Niagara neck of the woods. Cheers, Luca!
Hey again, Luca! I'm in the same boat as you- I think the synergy of music and scenery is really evoking. At 12:30 there's a song called "Pisaster Enters". I'll drop the link for these songs when I upload them, and I'll paste it in here for you if you'd like
That was great. I'm doing it myself in May and June (from south to north) as my retirement from the military and centennial and a half project. Quick questions: How much did your pack weigh? What kind of camera was that? Have any gear recommendations? Looking forward to watching the rest of your vids. Keep up the good work.
Hey Neil! Wishing you all of the best. May has some pretty unpredictable but otherwise beautiful weather, You should be fine if you're starting in the South especially. Pack- never actually weighed it, to be honest! But it was heavy- and then my body eventually adapted to it after being "broken" by it Camera- Fujifim XP 80... that model is outdated now but did an unbelievable job. I love the Fujifilm XP series and now use the most up-to-date one. Gear- Biolite Camp Stove was a game changer and super useful in nearly all weather. Thermal clothes for cold nights. A change of shoes. Those are the big ones. Thank you for the kind words, Neil- if you ever wanted to talk more details, email me at objorgan@mail.uoguelph.ca
Cheers, Ryan! This happened from late April -> Early June. The funds went to some places pretty close to my heart, including nature conservation and education + the disabled community.
Hey, your video is hilarious! Good work! I am doing the end to end starting in July most likely in Tobermory, do you think it would work with a German Shepard? I have done most of the Tobermory sections before, some are a bit tricky but most of the trail would be fine I'd say? What do you think? I see your big issue besides weather are farm dogs. Was it their aggressiveness? Do the west coast trail. Worth the trip. Cheers!
Hi Chris, thanks! I'd say the whole thing is doable with a fit German Shepard, terrain wise. A few fences you might have to lift the dog over, and also a lot of private farmland with cattle and other dogs- that'd be your biggest challenge
Hey man! what would be the best way to contact you? I'm hoping to tackle a project similar to this! Looking to get some insight. Your video is so well done - I'm surprised at how few people have seen this! I'll be sharing for sure.
Hey Rob! When I trained I calculated the average distance and time I would do on a "typical" Bruce Trail day, and then I'd put those dots spaced apart that approximate distance on the maps in advance, and make sure it landed on a spot where I could set up a tent. Every night was 5 star :)
Biophilic World thanks for replying. Did you stick to established campsites or practice no trace camping? I plan on section hiking but there are some pretty long gaps between sites. I plan on just hammock camping along the way.
Hi again, Rob- I practiced no-trace camping religiously along the whole way. A one man tent or hammock is pretty ideal- nice part about the tent (I own both) is the ability to put your backpack in the tent with you and not have it covered with rain splatter or critters in the morning. Just look for big swaths of natural land that aren't too closer to farms, roads, or other trails, and you should be fine! The Bruce Trail is amazing, but it doesn't cater to a thru-hiker for the reasons you mentioned. I would like to hear more about your journey when you get around to it!
Hi Ron, I practiced no-trace camping every night nearly. Just line your days up to end in a larger wooded area/provincial park/conservation area and you can just set up off the trail! Hammicking is a good call, just be wary of how /where you'll store your backpack without critters and rain getting at it over night
Hey! I'm planning a Bruce Trail through hike and was wondering if I could contact you to ask some questions. It's been difficult finding/getting in touch with people who have hiked the whole trail, and I'd love to get in contact. Great video by the way :)
Congrats! Litter bugs really grind my gears too! Whenever I see trash along the trail, I wonder what the heck is wrong with people. Takes a real special type of person to throw garbage on the trail....
+Adam Oldershaw Hey! I personally didn't find it very difficult to navigate. That's due to the trail generally being very well marked/intuitive, plus the use of the ultra valuable Bruce Trail Conservancy's official map book. Bear in mind that camping on the trail is illegal, and that stealth camping is the way I went about it. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the Bruce! Cheers.
There are not many legal options for camping if you do the thru-hike style. Just exhibit no-trace camping, and sometimes knocking on a farmer's door or to the local bartender can land you a safe backyard to throw your tent up in!
do you still have the mapping for your resupply if so i would like to see it please and can you tell me what was in your pack i think that with my age and gear i am looking at about 3 months any help is-much appreciated thanks again did you fish along the way
I wasn't too worried because that water filter is truly trustworthy... obviously I would take some serious precautions close to cattle fields and what not, but otherwise never got sick with the pump filter
Hey! I generally carried 4-5 days of food on my back, and then stocked up again every time I went through a small town or by a corner store. I strategically mapped all these areas out in advance

Awesome trip brother. I really enjoyed this vid.
"I know how to tie so many knots, but how the F does my pocket tie these ones" too funny.
Haha you know it! Tricky knots are a highlight little part of the trip. Cheers!
You got serious stamina. Not many people can or willing to hike this trail in may/june. That is a tough feat. Really enjoyed your video.
Starting the end to end in 21 days. I've taken a ton of inspiration from your video and look forward to the adventure and soul building.
Soul building, indeed! Likely the most transformative thing I've ever done in my life. the Bruce Trail is inscribe. Thanks Dan
Good video and an entertaining watch. Appreciate the great views of the trails. Keep on trekking.
Thanks a bunch Michael! I will always keep on trekking- glad you enjoyed
Very cool video and even cooler experience!
Tres cool. Thanks for sharing your experience with us on the world wide interweb!
Super glad you enjoyed it! The Bruce Trail is a backyard gem for southern Ontario
One of my favourite vids, and fave people on planet Earth! Doing my yearly watch of the video for some perspective. Well done O!
Really sweet highlights! You did amazing at packing 37 days into just 24 measly minutes
The editing was more challenging than the hike itself! Thanks for the kind words :)

going to do the the top half this summer .. thanks for the footage
Awesome! You'll love it, something different every day
Hi, I'm planning on doing supply drops every 40 to 60 km with my car. Then park at in town and use public transport to recover it.
20:47 is where my friend fell and tore her MCL, bruce trail hike was over. =(
Congrats on finishing it! It's not as easy as people think.
great video, greater mullet
Thanks and THANKS!
ahaha those first 2 minutes are great. thanks for sharing.
still an amazing video.
mjavor thanks a lot :) I miss it!
Then you should do it again. Start from the other end. I know everyone would love to see a sequel. ;)
Beautiful

Thank you kindly ⚡️🌲🤟
attempting the avon trial in 20 days and pan on doing this next summer!
Some good Canadian hiking!
Did you do any stealth camping along the Bruce Peninsula section from Tobermory to Lion's head?
Beautiful✨❤✨
Super Awesome hike dude! I'm from Burlington and have hiked many sections myself and can concur that it is astoundingly beautiful and serene! Also, what was the second song? It was really good and it's gonna remind me of the wilderness of home!
Also, If you're ever in St. John's Newfoundland for whatever reason I'm always down for adventures!!! Biophilic connections for life my friend!

The video is AMAZING. Be watching for more
Cheers, Ross! Southern Ontario is spectacular and can really deliver. I plan on doing another long distance hike in the next couple of years.
Nice work
Cheers!!

+Tricia Graves thanks! Southern Ontario is a treasure
WHat month (s) did this happen?
PS nice one raising the funds
Cheers, Ryan!
This happened from late April -> Early June.
The funds went to some places pretty close to my heart, including nature conservation and education + the disabled community.
:-D
Excellent love
Could I please ask what part of the trail you were at 17:46

Hey what is that spot thing you had in your tent during the early scenes

+Brenner Smith shoot me an email, objorgan@mail.uoguelph.ca
I'm really glad you enjoyed it, and I already admire the enthusiasm for a smilier project!
I wanna try this!
Did you camp at the end of the day wherever you were or were the campsites always planned ahead of time?
Hey Rob!
When I trained I calculated the average distance and time I would do on a "typical" Bruce Trail day, and then I'd put those dots spaced apart that approximate distance on the maps in advance, and make sure it landed on a spot where I could set up a tent. Every night was 5 star :)

I'd agree. Pretty disgraceful and ironic all at once. I try to pick a piece up and leave the place slightly cleaner every time I visit
ive always wanted to do this hike I live in hamilton and was wondering how difficult it was to navigate and if theres an accurate map available?
+Adam Oldershaw Hey! I personally didn't find it very difficult to navigate. +Biophilic World hey thankyou very much! funny i had no idea you couldnt just pitch your tent along the way. stealthy ill remember:-). take care
How the hell do they expect hikers to hike the trail without camping?? Are there dedicated campgrounds at certain points?
There are not many legal options for camping if you do the thru-hike style. Just exhibit no-trace camping, and sometimes knocking on a farmer's door or to the local bartender can land you a safe backyard to throw your tent up in!
Biophilic World
ok thanks...didn't make it in time for that hike before I moved to BC. On to new adventures!
Nice friend

When did you start your hike?
Late April 2014 to early June 2014

Were you worried about water when you hiked around farm land?
I wasn't too worried because that water filter is truly trustworthy... obviously I would take some serious precautions close to cattle fields and what not, but otherwise never got sick with the pump filter
