He wouldn't have needed to pack on as much muscle, and maybe he would have had a longer career? He was always pretty nimble for how tall he was, and he definitely had a very good midrange shot. If he grew up in an era that encouraged everyone to shoot threes, I imagine he would have been very comfortable taking them.

Yao actually had a fundamentally sound shot with a good, high release. He wasn't just tossing up shots and getting lucky, he was making them. It would be interesting to see what kind of numbers he'd get from beyond the arch in todays NBA, with more of a focus in practice and an incentive to shoot the 3 I could see him being above average among bigs for 3pm and 3pt%.
I 100% think if Yao played in today's league he would definitely be one of the better and best big man 3 pt shooters. Clean jumper and he knew how to get open.

I remember watching Yao Ming play one time in OKC with the Rockets. Yao was standing at the corner 3 drilling shots in pregame.
Yao actually had a fundamentally sound shot with a good, high release. He wasn't just tossing up shots and getting lucky, he was making them. It would be interesting to see what kind of numbers he'd get from beyond the arch in todays NBA, with more of a focus in practice and an incentive to shoot the 3 I could see him being above average among bigs for 3pm and 3pt%.
Considering that shooting form he had, at minimum he would’ve been a taller version of Dirk Nowitzki who could do it all inside and out.

I 100% think if Yao played in today's league he would definitely be one of the better and best big man 3 pt shooters. Clean jumper and he knew how to get open.
