My guy!!! Rakim IS the greatest lyricist EVER!! And I’m really appreciative of you as a youngster diving into and open to learning more about the Golden age of Hip Hop. If you have any questions about those times going forward, I’ll be happy to help you out with the knowledge. Respect to you and all the new generation for reaching back and embracing the times before….salutes and love. 🫡👊🏾👍🏾
For sure I’m about to react to some more Rakim & Eric B I think imma finish the album Paid In Full so for sure you could give me a breakdown on what I should look out for & help me understand and appreciate the music better I like his music but I want to see why he’s considered the god MC
@@pwtv339 I saw him one day around that time driving by in his Rolls Royce that he had just got from the proceeds of that album. I was hanging out in a park drinking with some friends in his neighborhood and he rolled passed us with his window half down and that same dead ass look on his face lol. It was in East Elmhurst NY.
DEF: * Adj - Describing an object or an action in a positive way. An abbreviation of (def)iantly * Exp - Yo! That sound is def!! (Rakim's usage of the word is an elegant example of word play and sentencing where Blow of "death" is replaced by "def", emphasizing that his dangerous rhymes are defiantly potent) As a 52 (Yup I'm OLDER than HipHop!) year old original HipHop head I'm more than proud to see the last three generations appreciate the jewels of their forefathers. The art and the culture was meant to invoke the gifts and talents of those in street culture and demonstrate its high value. Without having to explain it you all are seeing the difference between TRUE Hip Hop and BASTERDIZED commercial rap...
Rakim is my own personal GOAT his flow is unheard of even above Biggie, Nas or Em. The best part of hip hop is we may agree on 90% of the top 10 but so many will have different top 3's. Also this was all freestyle he had nothing written down before going to the studio

I’ve never seen Eric B make a facial expression in my life and I was listening to him since the ‘80s.
I think he needs a hug man lol

I'm in Effect was a slang we used back then meaning you are relevant, you are on top.

"Blow of death" = another way of saying deathblow. Basically he will hit you so hard it kills you.
