  • These panniers were made in 2011 for light duty errands. I wanted a waterproof solution that was durable but affordable. These certainly do the job! Great for grocery runs, trips to home depot, even takeout!

I'd like to suggest two little tweaks:
    1. Cut a piece of plywood to fit the inside wall of the bucket. Drill holes in the spots corresponding to the holes in the buckets, then put the plywood between the nut/washer and the bucket wall. Would lose a little bit of usable space, but it would prevent the failure that you mentioned since the stresses would get distributed across the side of the bucket.
    2. Throw some cap nuts on the bolts. That way, if you forget that reflective sheet, you still won't have to worry about milk jugs getting torn open.

Heel strikes were my issue with this setup on my 90s mtb. make sure to measure, measure , measure!

awesome idea. You can use rounded nuts that are vibration proof. also you can look if they have a canvas bag that is similar size but taller and can carry in and out from when ever you tour or go for grocery;; I am looking at going car light , way to go..

If you add a piece of chloro-plast/fluted plastic, kydex, sheet metal, or even diamond plate to the inside wall then put in your nuts & bolts ...it'll make that surface more rigid and you won't have to worry about the hooks pulling out.
Plus if you want to insulate the inside, there's small rolls of reflective sheeting available at Lowes/Home Depo. Or you can even use Melamine, also found at Lowes/Home Depo ...or check for it on-line. Then you can secure it to the inside by using 3M spray adhesive.

I have two Costco laundry detergent buckets out in the barn. Will have to think about this.

Acitone doesn't work that well to strip the silk-screened labels off. I use the aerosol 'CitriStrip' paint&varnish stripper gel from HD. Let a thick coat sit for 8-10 hours on one side panel at a time. Use a plastic scraper to remove liquefied label to an old plastic food tray. Wipe down with mineral spirits & paper towels. Remember to wear nitrile gloves & safety glasses in a ventilated area!

Why not use a bungee strap over the tops to keep the lids in place when you are riding? I do that with my wheelie-bin in windy weather so if it blows over, the neighbours don't get all of my recycling in their gardens.

Hi, I just went to the website he mentioned in the video and found the hooks. Go to Jandd Mountaineering, the hooks are located in Bicycle Gear/Replacement Parts and they cost $2.95 per hook. The nuts and bolts you can find at your local ACE Hardware. (6/5/2019) Good luck...cool video!
