It's so great you made these. Because dear god, the modding community, it's absolutely not new player friendly. Millions of abbreviation, no install guides on site, no nothing.
Thank you so much for these videos about SC4!!! I'm returning to the game since 2005 (i played a lot SC3K but i didn't have a good PC for run 4 at that times lol) and just now i'm discovering all the great mods that existed for this game and i didn't know back in time. Quick idea for a video: maybe you can do some mini tutorial about how to create real life regions in SC4. There are not update tutorials about it (or at least i didn't find it) and i'm sure that a lot of players would love to play the game recreating their hometowns or iconic places of their countries or the world.
i didnt even look at the channel name but when i saw Honestville i was like wtf? ive been watching that series for 2 days now! *mind blown* thanks Rob, cant wait to play on Altana
I have a very important question. After I did everything you asked, I would proceed to play a city, and the zoning tiles would NOT go away. What can I do to make the zoning tiles disappear?
Even though I figured out how to do this, I was a bit confused as to why the regions had such a gaudy color scheme. Didn't know you had to load in the tile in to fix it. lol
When I try to open the city after going through the SCMapper tool and the terrain isnt rendered in the thumbnail, it just freezes the game and it just up and closes itself.
question: When I pick on a new city, it says to reconcile, but if I do, non of the cities connect, it cuts it off with water. Do I just not reconcile ?
Over at devotion I'm seeing lots off error issues with mapper use on WIN 10. Others say it's fine. Any issues in 2021...some older posts are outdated???
Great tutorial! Maybe you should consider making a video about Colossus Addon Mod - this is a tough one to install correctly ( I tried twice and failed :D ).
Hey Rob! Thanks for the videos. I used sc4 mapper but my region's satellite view still has steps between tiles (after loading the tiles). Is there a way to fix this?
This seems a bit rushed, these tutorials are excellent but this one does not go into nearly enough detail with the SC4 Mapper. I have followed all the steps but SC4 mapper will not load Altana at all or some of the stock cities. I have the 4Gb patch installed and opened inside the SC4 Mapper folder and it gave me an "OK Patched" response so it is not that. Do I need more tweaks to get this to load in SC4 Mapper, I can install it via the game which you do not recommend if I change the jpg size to 1025 x 1025 so "To Be Honest" 8-) I would like a clue as to why SC4 Mapper will not open the Alanta city so I can edit the bitmap?
your videos are excellent! i played this when it 1st came out and off and on through the years. i dont really like skylines or the other one, sc5 is ok but the maps are so small. i triedd to start playing sc4 again a few years ago on a new setup but the game would crash all the time. i saw your vid about the mods and it hasent crashed since. i installed everything but the seaports mod, is there a way we could download them straight from you?
Unfortunately, it's not really recommended to download mods from other players due to a variety of reasons. But, you should be able to get them from both the STEX (Simtropolis Exchange), and the LEX (SC4 Devotion's Lot Exchange). Many of the mods are still being updated/added to by the original modders, so, downloading them from a fellow SC player isn't recommended. And in the case of Rob, he's got a few, where he's had to remove parts of them for various reasons. Which is why it's better to get them from the STEX/LEX, as you can grab what you want, while removing what doesn't work for you. However, to really be able to download stuff from STEX (or at least, more than a handful at a time), you'll need to sign up. But, signing up for both the LEX and Simtropolis is free and easy. And, while not required for using STEX, it is for LEX, and unfortunately, many mods have dependencies, most of which are on the LEX itself. Various prop packs and such, thus, another reason for why sharing downloads isn't recommended, as I'm sure Rob doesn't even know what mods require which dependencies. Though, the LEX comes with a dependency tracker, so, after you download a mod or prop pack, it'll record that you've already got both it, and their dependencies. Which is super helpful, as many mods will end up requiring many of the same dependencies.
Re: the seaports mod. I can't really distribute other people's mods in that way, unfortunately. It would be nice if someone packed all the dependencies into that mod to make it simpler. I may eventually make a video giving some tips on how to get a simple version of the Seaports working without a million dependencies.
i followed these instructions but the map loaded VERY large, there are so many more tiles on mine than yours. Any idea how i can make it the same size as yours? I want to try and do your honestville layout so bad! Hope someone can help
Just started playing SimCity 4 again after about a 14 year hiatus from the game. I used to be able to put in my own custom regions (my hometown specifically) but I've forgotten how. And no disrespect towards you intended, but a lot of the stuff you're talking about now seems like total Greek to me. Would it be possible to make a "Custom Regions for Dummies" video? Dummies like myself? LOL I also have no clue about mods. I tried looking them up on Simtropolis but I couldn't make heads or tails of any of it.
i shouldnt have to have a degree in theoretical physics to download a simcity map. it should've been easy as drag and drop, like with normal buildings. why does it have ∞ steps and each one of them creates a problem that has to be solved through ∞ + ∞ steps more?
I like when I look up on google how to import a grayscale region into SC4, the thumbnail of the first video shows MY GODDAMN HOMETOWN. Apparently someone uploaded it as "Altana". It's actually Portsmouth, NH LMFAO
SC4 mapper is a .exe and will not run natively on Mac. You'll need to run it in Wineskin or another Windows emulator. My advice, overall, for Mac players is to get Boot Camp set up and to have Windows installed on your computer. So many files on the STEX are easier to work with if you have access to Windows.
Windows makes you use Admin permissions for many apps not distributed in the Microsoft Store. It's not a security feature. It's a ploy to get you to give them $$$. If you know where the software is coming from (in this case, the SimCity 4 community), you're usually OK. No need to be scared of admin permissions.
shouldnt have to download ∞ programs from old sites and tinker with them for ∞ ammount of time until finally something goes wrong and it's back to zero
I missed it which map did you download that one looks really good for a huge metro area
Probably Altana. That's the one he's using for his Honestville series. If you mean the smaller one, that was Digby
Thanks kind stranger!

Благодарю за тот контент которого не хватает по этой игре :)

My pleasure!

Freeze on loading screen when i try to save the region, just never load. Any clue ?

I'm not using it at the moment but I'll reinstall it at some point to see how it's doing!
Sweet! Was just wondering how to do this. Downloading the files isn't enough.
I was stupid enough to deleted all provided regions and didn't know how to get them back so I reinstall the game hahaa

thanks a lot for this video and all the awesome information. What is this "network addon mod" you were talking about though?
I watched all tutorial videos and am thankful for the help but I'm blanking a bit. When should one zone for high density for res and commercial 🤔
Once you have enough budget for utilities and amenities it's not a bad idea. Keep in mind higher density will require higher capacity transportation.

probably game resolution

I tried and followed 100% of the steps and still can only see a nice big flat land. I viewed the greyscale map and Thanks nevertheless.

link not working
its an older but checks out
Why on earth does this require me to run an EXE I downloaded from the internet with Administrator permissions? No way.

Mac users are out of luck i guess
At the start of the video I thought you would explain thigs clearly however after 2 minutes I was disappointed.
most confusing tutorial i've ever watched
