Hampton National Historic Site Virtual Tour with Gregory Weidman

On Tuesday, November 30, Trust member Gregory Weidman shared a virtual tour of Hampton National Historic Site. Hampton was the largest private home in America when completed in 1790 and is considered one of the finest examples of Georgian architecture in the country. Located north of Baltimore, MD, the estate was owned by the Ridgely family for seven generations, from 1745 to 1948. The 24,000-square-foot mansion is a unique survival in that very little has changed since the mid-19th century, inside and out, from extant furnishings to the garden parterres to the stone slave quarters. After our tour, Gregory shared an ethnographic study that was conducted at Hampton and the histories of those who were enslaved at the site with descendants.

What a smorgasbord of decorative arts ! It only figures with my luck the one peice that i fell in love with was totally overlooked ! The dark Rococo side table to the right, under the mirror @31:33 looks like it has a story to tell. With beautiful lines and proportions, i'd like to know more about this majestic wall flower. Thank you Gregory for sharing AND all you do for our history ❣
