    Shaker's in your system. Elsewhere hopefully, I have a large collection "between covers" and you add much with your insight. Kentucky was socially very unique (compared to Ohio and the Northeast) and the social differeces were amazing but never in a negative way (I guess I was particularly startled by a tad of slavery and the Civil War). Look forward to more of your teaching. G*dbless, EBMAL inspire.

    I agree with suzette. I still have one of the finest glass collections by the last of the former wizards of stained glass production such as Oceana and Uroboros. I do not know if anyone has filled their shoes. I think that would be hard to do as with Jim Lundberg. You never throw away top line scrap glass as that is the mothers milk for projects to come by having large amounts of color and shade to use as you want. I have owned several Neustadt's books for many years. They are expensive but worth every penny as are the books on his houses. The room with the bathers is stupefying. I have many of the colors you showed. I thank you for being able to see the collection I have heard about. I have always wanted to see this saved from destruction collection. It is amazing and the foresight of one guy that this still exists all together today. Thanks.

    Hello Arts Trust and Peter I am doing a research group project for Temple, we are watching your video for a virtual tour! We love your video and we had some questions. Do we know why they chose this location for the first world fair ? Also you stated that it is the location of the first ever Japanese style garden in North America, but only a stone lantern remains. Is there a reason it was not preserved ? Did the garden always belong to West Fairmount Park ?

    Great job on explaining how Edward C. Moore was able to use his astute collecting skills to inspire his most famous and elaborate Tiffany silver designs. I totally get how he amassed these pieces for his design inspiration. I do the same thing myself for my product photography. I'm always looking through antique shops, home stores and other places for unique and inspiring photo backgrounds to do my product photography. I read a book about Normal Rockwell and he did the same exact thing and even had a huge warehouse of props that he collected for specific use in doing his famous portraits. My big question is did the Edward C. Moore collection come first or did his collection slowly amass as a result of his wanting to find objects to inspire him on his silver designs? I would also be curious to know if Tiffany and Company gave Edward a personal expense budget to purchase these items?

      Dear @TheSilverMuseum: Thank you for your comment. While we investigate the answer to your question, please see more information about Moore, the publication, and the upcoming exhibition at www.metmuseum.org/art/metpublications/Collecting_Inspiration_Edward_C_Moore_at_Tiffany_Co; books.google.com/books?id=ZCg7EAAAQBAJ&newbks=0&printsec=frontcover&source=gbs_ge_summary_r&cad=0#v=onepage&q&f=false; and www.metmuseum.org/exhibitions/collecting-inspiration-edward-c-moore-at-tiffany-and-co.

      Thanks for the link. Yes, I just ordered the book on Amazon and am looking forward to reading it. Also planning to come see The Edward C. Moore Exhibition at The MET in early September. Will be awesome to see some of the never before displayed Tiffany pieces as well as Edward's collectors pieces from across the globe.

    • @TheSilverMuseum
      @TheSilverMuseum 7 місяців тому

      I also have two extraordinary pieces I think would compliment the upcoming Edward C. Moore Collection at the Met that I'd be willing to give out on loan. 1. 1870 Japanese Tiffany Water Pitcher - a great piece using Kaga Zougan enameled inlay, the same techniques used in Japanese art metal techniques in swords and armor. You have no examples of this currently set in the exhibition. 2. Charles Grosjean Chinoiserie Tea Set - would be a great way to give Grosjean a shout out and acknowledgement on how he too influenced the Japanese techniques used at Tiffany. I still think it was Charles Tiffany that directed both Grosjean and Moore to bring in the world influences and probably funded the entire Edward C. Moore props/models/antiques collection. Charles son Louis Comfort did the same experimental world influence thing in Tiffany Favrile glass, the apple didn't fall far from the tree, they both were genius designers. I think Charles Tiffany was to Edward C. Moore was how similarly Steve Jobs was to Jony Ive - or how William Randolph Hearst was to Julia Morgan. These designers and architects were all awesome in their own right, but they drew a lot of direction and inspiration from their business owners. P.S. I dropped a line on Medill Harvey's video, but the comment got immediately deleted - maybe she thought I was an opportunist spammer? Let me know if interested. If nothing else, I enjoyed learning from your videos, book and will enjoy seeing the exhibition in person.

    When I was young, my family anchored at Crane’s Beach and we’d enjoy the beach during the summers. My friends and I used to run up to “The Castle” and play on the grounds. This house is close to my heart. ❤ An interesting story about the house; Mr. Crane built the first summer house and his wife didn’t like it. He asked her to live with it for, I believe, ten years. After that, he tore down the first house and built this one. After the parents had passed away, none of the Crane children wanted the house, so the trusties took it over. I lived in Ipswich when I was young and remember the beach days. There was an old ship, the Ada K Damon, that ran aground during a horrible blizzard in 1909. The ship would get buried in the sand then reemerge years later, the then disappear under the sand again for a few years until it would re-emerge again. That went on for over a century. After being on the beach for 111 years, the last remaining pieces of the Ada K Damon were torn apart by a coastal storm and it no longer exists.

    I walked out to that house twice in 2013. But I never knew about the initialed bricks. That's so cool. I'm trying to figure out Ralph Harvard's accent. I don't think I've ever heard anyone say "house" the way he does. The only patterned brick house I've been inside of is the Somers Mansion in Somers Point, which is from sometime in the 1720s. They don't know exactly. It was great to see the inside of this one. Thanks for uploading this video, and thanks for the work you do.
