You two are the sweetest couple!! Such a joy seeing young folks farming and raising food for their families. Oh, one thing I didn't hear you mention but nearly all southerners grow...okra! I love that. Tell you something an old farmer once told me to produce a bumper crop. He said every day you pick an okra pod, cut off the lowest leaf. Keep doing that every time you gather it. That okra plant will grow so tall you finally can't reach the top. Mine look like trees they get so tall. And the best way to freeze okra is to bag it whole without washing it. Washing it causes freezer burn. When you take out a bag from freezer, then wash it and slice for frying. Tastes fresh that way.

Living in paradise. Please never take it for granted. I grew up in the Appalachians in Tn, Va and I joined the military and of course that look me a million miles away from the life. Now I'm stuck in the city dealing with assholes every day. The only thing we can grow here in the desert is weeds and cactus.

David Brockman I am 82 years old and just found out how to eat radishes other than just cutting them up in a salad. I was raised in the country until I was 15, my Mom only washed them and put them in a little bowls on the table with meals.I will most certainly try frying them soon, thank you so much , God bless.

I went back in time watching you makin' biscuits and gravy. Momma made the gravy exactly that way and I never have been able to make mine come out without lumps. I learned how this mornin'!
It's a wondrous thing that you kids are preserving how to live off the land the old down-home way with dignity and respect.
I could go on and on, but just one little tidbit. I LOVE the kids "nicknames"! You are "two peas in a pod" with obvious love and Christian family values to be admired. Oops, that's five peas!

You two kids are living and raising your kids the right way, the old way, the out of fashion way! Glad to see that there is still some common sense in this world - It's March 2019 when I am watching this - Jared's spring garden episodes have had me looking at non -GMO seeds, especially Kentucky Wonders, French breakfast radishes and onion sets.

I grew up in Kentucky and my parents were exactly like you two. They made sure that we could all grow, preserve the veggies, fruits and berries. We can all also put meat on the table, livestock and wild game. Yes, the boys learned cooking and canning and us girls can hunt and trap. I am now 57 yo and have lived in a very big city up north for over 20 yrs. I still grow my own veggies and put some up for the winter but do not hunt. Thanks for the jaunt into my past.

OK; You got me. I shed a tear listening to Jared talk about his garden, and the way you talk. I love reading books of early American history. Life of Abe Lincoln when he was a rail splitter before he practiced law. Early American life of true pioneer people. Their hardships, babies lost, daily struggles. Simple ways and means. You sold corn and beans and a mule for your first guitar. Life isn't more humble and honest than that. But it's one thing to read about early American life, but here now in the 21sh century and with the technology of UA-cam, I can honestly say, my understanding of early American life of people is still ALIVE AND WELL after all this time. Your handed down family traditions are wonderful to observe. And now you want to teach your children farming life...it's just all so great. God be with you and your family forever. Thank you for sharing, and thank you for your wisdom.

Hi Folks I just saw your channel today and watched several of your videos . A real joy to see you. . I live in the far north of Ontario Canada and growing food here is a real challenge. Temperatures can be -40 and even -50 f. and our season is only about 70 days. First frost hits about first week or so of September and last frost is middle June. How interesting to see you 2500 miles away. I noticed some of your comments say Lincoln is not in many videos. Don't be shy, you did great as you relaxed and got going. Totally enjoyed the visit. all the very best to you and your family Paul subscribed

Hey guys! I do enjoy your videos. You mentioned you hate working potatoes. I feel you on that. lol One thing my dad done that made digging them a lot easier was he would use a bull tongue plow pulled by our horse. Once he got rid of his horses, he started using his 4 wheeler to pull it and it does a good job too. I hope you see this and it might make digging your taters a little easier. God bless you and your family. Oh, and my dad used to deliver fuel down in Inez a lot back in the day when he worked for the 83 Gas and Grocery. It is a small gas station just over the VA line. He would deliver home heating fuel and fuel to oil rigs in that area. Thanks again!

Awesome channel! You all are great! Everyone can learn so much about true homesteading from this channel. Please teach us everthing your parents taught you. I was raised in the city by my grandfather who grew up in the country eating, growing, and doing things like you all do.I was a teenager when he passed away and like a lot of kids I took things for granted and did not pay close attention to what he did. The things that you make and eat take me back to those days. Now I can pay more attention and learn from you. Again thank you for sharing with us how you live.

Florida weave is good way to trellis tomatoes peppers that kind thing. I also get the oldest round bales around lay them out in 10-15 ft layers sections on top each other throw those potatoes under that then I personally throw just a fine layer old broke down manure over the to just to make it dark inside let this potatoes grow.... no digging just reach in when they die back. I use red potatoes here in Missouri got 100 pounds from 5 pound seed potatoes

You guys did a great job, and you grow a huge variety of things. I don't know about the ginseng, but I've foraged for berries, poke, lambsquarter, spring onions, maybe more. Also, found wild strawberries and raspberries in Minnesota. It's so fun picking food that's free that you didn't put any work into growing. My Grandma knew where to find morels, gooseberries, and all kinds of greens in the wild in northern Missouri. I love that you are so passionate about your gardening.

thank you! we love getting wild greens and berries! they are plentiful here. Morels are here but harder to find than the rest but well worth the effort!

What a joyful video, just great. I can tell from the look
Of your facial skin how healthy you both are. It must be from all the natural food.
All the Best and Bless you both and the kids.
P.S. I really respect what you folks do. You have Faith, Grace and Humility. I wish you both were running the nation now.

Your video helped me answer a trivia question. I never knew what three sister plantings was until I watched your video. Evidently the native Americans used this planting style. Your videos are not only entertaining they are educational too. My husband is from Butchers Valley just outside of Rogersville TN. Love y’all such a sweet family and I love your lifestyle

I just discovered your channel and find your family and way of life so amazing and the love you have for each other and your homestead is inspiring. I’m a Carolina girl living in New York City for the last 20 years. You’ve reminded me of my grandma’s cooking and I’m going to try to prepare some of your delicious recipes for my yankee friends. Will keep you posted. Keep up the great videos! ❤️

I worked at the farmers market with my grandfather when I was 10. I bought a very nice bicycle with my money one summer. I bagged so much fruit I did not even have to weight it. I could tell the weight just by picking it up. My husband and I are from west Tennessee. We are learning to grow our own food. And it’s a lot better than the stores. I love squash too. I wish I could make cornbread like my grandmother to go with it. It’s so awesome that you are teaching your children to garden. Thank you for the video and God bless you. Leslye
