    I watched Crimson Tide in Pensacola, Fl the first showing. Pensacola is the home base for The Blue Angels as well as other Naval ships. The theater was sold out, packed with Navy personnel. When Gene Hackman said, "I expect and demand your very best! Anything less, you should have joined the Air Force!" With that statement, the entire theater broke out with a laugh, similar to the clip, but much louder. I was so impressed and felt so good to watch Crimson Tide with the Navy

    I love this little detail: every other time he shouts at Mr. Cobb, it's a call-and-response. But when he asks, "What do we say?" he doesn't skip a beat -- he bellows it with Mr. Cobb and the rest of his sailors -- GO BAMA, ROLL TIDE. As flawed and ultimately wrong as Ramsey is, you can't help but admire him. He's a proud old battleship, himself.

      Liquid Navy pulled out assisting them very early on... they allowed Bruckheimer on a Trident sub to shadow the exec officer, but they told the Navy the plot it was “crew vs rogue computer trying to initiate launch...” scenario. Once the Navy heard any suggestion of mutiny, they zipped up tight and said “no way... we will not help you in any way shape or form if you suggest anything remotely like mutiny on a US Navy vessel...”
      They got assistance from French navy (Forst carrier...) but other than that, nothing...
      Funny story; they sent a helicopter out to get footage of a torpedo sub leaving the naval shipyards in Maryland and by sheer coincidence, the sub they were filming (legally) was the actual USS Alabama. The submerge footage is the real Alabama.

      Red October mainly because of it's stealth. It would be the first sub to fire, but there would be launch transient anyway so both subs would have torpedoes fired but the Red October at an advantage because it heard the enemy first and is able to plan ahead and evade before firing torpedo. The Ohio class sub would be surprised and their reaction would be delayed. IF the launch transient by Red October is not heard or concealed then the Ohio is toast...

    I can only imagine what real sailors must feel; the bitter tinge of fear mixed with the sweet flavor of pride in serving as they stand near their ship ready to venture in harms way to preserve freedom.

    As a Navy man myself there is one HUGE cock up in this clip. Cpt Ramsey is a career Sub skipper but he calls the 'bama a Ship!! NO Sub Captain (or anyone in the Navy for that matter!) would refer to a sub as a Ship!! The Alabama would ALWAYS be called a BOAT!!!

    • @starguy2718
      @starguy2718 3 роки тому +1

      And for surface vessels, it's the other way around: it's a ship, *never* a "boat".

This was just such a great movie I don't think it's under rated as I want to say it is but I still think it's a little underrated

    I never heard one Submarine Captain talk like that..As they know. If you qualified to be in the Submarine Fleet and on that boat. They don't need to treat you like a Child. You earned the right too be there. You know your Job... And the learning never ends either.
    By the way. The Captain\Commander first priority. Is to being his Sailors back home alive. And they Trust Him to do that. As you make one mistake. The Ocean will punish you for it. Most don't get a second chance!
