Thanks for 2,500 likes, guys!!!!
Anyway, hey guys, Fanunic here, and today I decided to post some music from the game Dear Esther. I've truly fallen in love with this game. If you haven't already, check out my playthrough of Dear Esther:

Jessica Curry had never really played a game before until she wrote the music for this game. Instead of thinking videogames are silly, she really tried to understand games as a medium and she put a lot of care, attention and soul into this. The effort is very noticeable and I appreciate her work a lot.
Yeah, she did a pretty good job with the OST.
I get the idea listening the comments in landmark edition, but I'm sure she actually know about soundtrack in general, specially in movies.
one of the few video game soundtracks I regard very highly. I put it along side Halo and Silent Hill 2, just a beautiful, timeless masterpiece.
Come back...
This "game" is still one of the most amazing experiences l've ever had. Absolutely mesmerising. I wish I could erase it from my memory and play it as If i never had.
You are so right and I wish I could do the same
You are so right. In 2015 I experienced the same with a game called "Homesick". Both games moved something deep within me. Absolutely beautiful. I wish there were more like those two.... .
@@renga3148 try the game "Soma", the story is great , gameplay is ok from what i remember
@@df71091 Thank you. I wil try that! It looks pretty cool.
this game is trash. Its not game lol.
Man those caves were just amazing.
that paper boats at night too
@@Herbert2892 king has spoken
Thank you, Jessica Curry... You are a genius
There were many walking simulators like this, but Dear Esther is something else, nothing is just like it.
to me its like the super mario 64 of walking sims...its perfect, hard to play another after it.
Years later and still in love with this
I'm over here STILL in love with this
Same.
I remember falling in love with this experience almost instantly. It's one of those things where I wish I could erase the memory of it to be able to walk through it for the first time all over again.
This is still probably the most beautiful game I’ve ever seen, it perfectly captured the feel of a Scottish island and felt almost real. Very nice
i really cried with the part of the paper ships. great story.
A lot of my school life was absolutely dire. Everyday was such a complete strain, so much so that I learned very little. I had no appreciation or understanding for the likes of poetry. But now as an adult, listening to poetry read out with passion and meaning is absolutely fantastic. Especially accompanied by such relaxing music.
haunting, beautiful, despairing....so many superlatives one could use. The game itself is a piece of art too for those unfamiliar, I highly recommend having a go with an open mind.
+Heffsta02
Its not really a game. Its kind of an deep mind experience. You express the game into your own feelings and create your own story around it.
We are each and every one of us an island in this vast sea we call life. We are all hermits, wandering around, searching for the answers and meaning......
thank you
that is pretty much facing existentialism for you... and nihilism is pretty much feeling being the only living island in a dead and empty world while staying on such an island unless one takes action.
... finding nothing
I'm in Ireland right now for school and the scenery in the Irish countryside reminds me of this game a lot. I had the main theme replaying in my head while exploring...so surreal and beautiful...
Yeah, it really captures that North-eastern Scottish coastline feel really well!
(Just like _Everybody's gone to the Rapture_ caught the English Cotswolds country village feel)
- That, and the music is something The Chinese Room developers really excel at!
I've just finished Dear Esther, I can't get over how artistic this game is, the narration, the graphics, the story, the music... it's so well done, the game is definitely something to experience
I love this game so much. Such a masterpiece.
Final track at 44:42 is so pretty.
Bring back memories of those final moments in the game.
Sounds similar to Nine Inch Nails - La Mer. Especially, if you know Trent Reznor's background story about that song. It could perfectly fit for Dear Esther soundtrack
With *this* and the _Everybody's gone to the Rapture_ soundtracks being SO excellent,
I really hope Jessica Curry is getting a LOT of offers for her work!
(And receiving the proper recognition among her musician colleagues, and perhaps beyond the 'soundtrack composer' category overall! Just *superb* music!) 😍 🎵 🎻 😍
Totally agree, my friend
Her soundtrack of Amnesia a Machine for pigs its also amazing
@@crestfallenknight7983 😸_👍
@@GAMMAE Oooh, not heard that one, thanks man! :D
la musique de Everybody's gone to the Rapture, j'ai du l'écouter 500 fois sans exagérer !
I think from 29:28 Esther's condition is getting worse. From 30:28 the piano music starts to get dramatic. At 31:12, we begin to hear more pure piano music. now at 31:50 you start to hear a new sound and at 32:33 everything is revealed. The music that Esther heard until 32:33 in the form of piano music is actually the sound of the cardiac event monitor. Esther is now on the brink of death and the last sounds she hears in vegetative life belong to this cardiac event monitor. After all, the beginning of nightlife on the island shows that Esther is now brain dead. For those of you who don't know, Esther is on her deathbed from a car accident and her husband is talking to her sadly right next to her bed. This island is actually an imaginary island shaped by what Esther's husband, who is in vegetative life, told her.
I finished reading your comment just right when the first piano keys fell in the second audiotrack ("I have begun my ascent"). So inspiring. So pure. So sublime. So profound.
I thank God I experienced this game every day.
yeah the rythm is so expressive here, it's so stunning how it creates pictures in one's mind
I can't exactly say how many times I've come back to this music throughout my life, and how much it calms me and brings back memories. I could go on a lot more with this comment, but I also don't think words would do it justice, so I'll just say thank you for sharing the music.
P.S. Anyone else catch a glimpse of that antacid medicine ranitidine on one of those stone pillars arranged in a circle?
Needs a love button as well as a like button.
Probably the most touching soundtrack to any game ever made. So many tear jerk moments and probably one of the OST's that got me into classical music.
If you love this, try the OST's of Journey and Ori and the Blind Forest. Transistor also has an amazing rock/jazz/electro soundtrack that I personally adore. All of these are very unique and relaxed. Deus Ex Revolution has an excellent ambient electro track, if you're into that. If you like Metal music, try the new Doom's OST. Just some suggestions.
months after playing the game i keep coming back to the soundtrack over and over again because it makes me feel so much. the music is absolutely beautiful
come back..come back..
I really didn't notice all the eerie background noises before when I played this game. I thought I was just hearing things. Pretty well placed in my opinion, adds the subtle eerie feeling this game delivers.
Phenomenal and underrated soundtrack. Curry has such an ear for atmosphere
I just stumbled upon this game in 2020. All I can say is, wow.
I have never heard such beautiful melancholic and at the same time atmospheric music...
this game was creepy but beautiful
"I've ridden to this island in a heart with no bottom; all the bacteria in my gut rising up to sing to me."
31:48-32:48 so chillingly beautiful. What an amazing story.
I actually just recently found a classical composer from the late 1800s who I think has a rather similar sound. The composer is Camille Saint-Saëns. Two of his songs that sound similar to Dear Esther me are "The Cuckoo in the Depths of the Woods" and "Danse Macabre" (to a lesser extent, but still a great piece).
Come back Dear Esther.......... oh my heart. Everything about this is exquisite. We all deserve a love like this.
does anyone deserve that sense of loss though?
Is it possible to have one without the other?
DissociaTV probably not simultaneously... But idk, I'm still a teenager
I feel I would go through this too if my partner were to die
Loved the ghost's in the game.
It is not just a game. It is a masterpiece
I played this game about 8 months ago from now. It was a hot summer night, I was unemployed and my gf that I shared four years was with me. We played it, finished the game and felt kind of restless but now I am all alone, crying, listening to these soundtracks. I hope you find peace and happiness my ex-love :)
I don't really understand what reason could someone have to dislike this... if you don't like this, you don't have passion for music and art in general
true art
Why is the sea so becalmed? It beckons you to walk upon its surface; but I know all too well how it would shatter under my feet and drag me under.
Khadgar07 Wow. Teach me how to write like you. Seriously.
10 years ago, I'm hella old.
So beautiful and very inspiring as i am writing my own indie horror. Thankyou :)
+Pam Cowen may I ask how that is going? :)

Hey man, if you're exploring Horror ideas with Classical music, you might fancy checking out some Penderecki / Ligetti
Here ya go:

Plus, Penderecki's 'Cosmic Horror' piece _Kosmogonia (1970)_ ua-cam.com/video/JyC7WBuyQYo/v-deo.html
(and the downright scary, possibly some of the darkest music ever created) _Penderecki: Cello Concerto No.1 (1972)_

How your game is going?
I sometimes find myself thinking at this music... So beautiful!
Say what you will about Dear Esther, it's score is simply beautiful.
Why some folks were apparently *upset* about being given the option to have a different experience
is simply beyond my understanding... ❓ 🤔 ❓
I’ve loved this soundtrack ever since I first heard it years ago
For a guy that hates poetry with a passion, it means a lot for me to say that this game meant a lot to me.
I finished this game 3 times. Even my gf who never played anything loved it.
hi J.C. Denton.
what does she love about it
creepiest game and soundtrack ever!
I don't know the game and I only clicked on the video because I found the thumbnail interesting.
The creeps.
It's a amazing soundtrack. It reminds me of Everybody's gone to the rapture, another great videogame.
This game was made by the same developers as Everybody's gone to the rapture.
You should really play it if you haven't, it's beautiful.
One of the best experiences I've ever had
Best game in the world
I guess my favourite bit is the second one. Starts around 1:10
Yeah fantastic, never tire of it. Perfect.
Seeing this live early next year and cannot wait. Should be an incredible experience.
David Heaton I just played this game tonight wow - that live experience will be beautiful
There are a few concerts right? I'm looking at them too :)
the first of its type I ever 'played', and I loved it. Not a fan of the term 'walking simulator' to describe it though, too disparaging; I prefer to go with 'Relax-em-up'
Urban Sprawl The game is beautiful and very thought-producing. It is the equivalent of having a very strange dream, and although it was very scattered and disorganized, you remember it becuase of how it made you feel. The characters are never seen, only described, yet we all relate to them and feel clusters of emotions towards them. We are all Esther; innocently wronged by others. We are all the hermit, scouring our own island for its secret while simultaneously crawling inside our own heads, swimming around in its contents .
...come back, come back...
I really LOVE this soundtrack more every time I listen to it. This is a game that's not really a game, but I believe it to be unforgettable. Mood and atmosphere and light and shadow in caves full of stalagmites and stalactites... The last track is, of course, amazing as well as the bit that builds up at 32:00 and the next minutes or so.
I swear, all of these views are from me. Thank you so much for uploading ♥ the soundtrack of this game is so beautiful.
This was at rePlay orchestra!! SO EFFIN GOOD
I'm not the guy you replied to, but I wanted to say you just opened up a new world to me.
Profound music. I must also acknowledge the last scene of this story. Perhaps we all get to fly away in the end.
happy birthday Debussy!!!
UH ΕΙΜΑΣΤΕ ΠΑΝΤΟΎ ❤️
31:31-32:50 So chillingly beautiful. What an amazing journey.
i can close my eyes and feel like those seagulls, in the air, free...
This gives me so many damn feels. Does anybody know where I can find more music like this?
Am I the only one who adored this, but didn't like Gone Home?
You are definitely NOT alone with this opinion. That I am sure. :)
you aren't the only mate :)
I personally started with Gone Home and loved it. Dear Esther was the icing on the cake. Very deep and spiritual week I had, when I played these two games!
Gone Home is not the same creators as Dear Esther. The Chinese Room made Dear Esther.
They also made:
2009 Korsakovia
2012 Dear Esther
2013 Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs
2015 Everybody's Gone to the Rapture
I have played a Machine for Pigs, and Dear Esther.
Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs is also really cool, better than the first Amnesia, thanks to The Chinese Room!
YouNolf I feel like DE was a more thought provoking game while GH sent a more emotional message. People dislike DE because everything isn't explained right up front, but I find it one of the game's better aspects. But yes, playing those two games back to back really makes you contemplate.
Literatura y paisaje. Bello ❤
If you enjoy this, look up Curry's similar work, Fields Were the Essence of the Song and listen to it while moving.
the game provides a better experience what it is like in that mans head than a book can wow
This game was poetry..
feel like melting when listening to this. Make me want to play the game so much!
This was less a game and more of a digital art gallery. Little to no interaction, but an interesting experience nonetheless. It's nice to see people playing with the genre of first person games and taking it in different directions.
Listen to this soundtrack in one tab while listening to the script in another: ua-cam.com/video/AD9zHDgWha0/v-deo.html
Dear Esther. I have burned the cliffs of Damascus, I have drunk deep of it. My heart is my leg and a black line etched on the paper all along this boat without a bottom. You are all the world like a nest to me, in which eggs unbroken form like fossils, come together, shatter and send small black flowers to the very air. From this infection, hope. From this island, flight. From this grief, love. Come back! Come back...
I had forgot the name of the game and i was calling it goodbye Esther. And for some reason i google it and it showed me the official name and i was laughting. Awesome game and story plus the soundtrack too. Enjoy ~
Thank you! I love this soundtrack for studying and I'm glad its finally all in one place.
müziklerin etkisinden bir türlü çıkamadım, o gün bu gündür kapılıp gidiyorum...
I loved this game! Thanks for the upload. :)
it's beautiful
goosebumps at 1:13 throughout the whole track
Dear [REDACTED]
Every night, I dream of that castle. It’s always in the distance, on top of a hill, mountain, island or even the side of a cliff. In the tower, there’s a light. Like a beacon, beckoning me to come closer so I can be caressed by its heavenly glow. It was you, wasn’t it? It’s not just the moon whispering to me.
Im honestly scared of listening to some of these tracks (in the middle of the night of course) they are so powerful.
BEHOLD, DAMASCUS HAS FALLEN.
I always expect the unexpected with unusual games but they don't always surprise you like Journey or Puzzle Agent
or that game I can't remember which was a platform game that gradually turned from a kirby-esque puzzle platformer to a demented horror game.
The track around 1:30 gives off Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture vibes
I've dug through any barriers, I've carved myself into reality in a way I'm certain is correct, I've found something with this, I've become inspired, I can say anything, do anything, I can tell my family I love them without fear or anxiety, I can breath without remorse, I can accept who I am, I can love and be loved, these are all the feels I'm dealing with. =/
I agree with the comments below, evocative and interesting, Got tired of keeping my finger on the W key to go forwards should have been able to toggle the movement.
When the depression meets fear...
Listen to this with rainy mood.com playing in the background...
really adds to it
Is this only Dear Esther's soundtrack? There's definitely a song there that sounds like one from Everybody's gone to the rapture.. Maybe she re used some elements
+Gabi Everett its the same choir singers.
+Gabi Everett is the same composer in both and thats is the amazing Jessica curry
i loved the game...
Journey has an amazing soundtrack, also bioshock (although a very different one)
Jessica Curry seems like a talented composer
This music alone urges me to buy the game. The game it self seals the deal.
the cool thing is that the director is planning on a new "stalker-like" title but as always without weapons just with your flashlight. ;D
This game deserves more respect then it gets tenfold!
I don't think we can be so sure that we play Esther's loved one of any sort; seeing as within about an hour of gameplay we explore the parts of the island visited and painted by whoever came before, hearing the thoughts and possibly diary of her supposed loved one, I like to think the player is but an 'archeologist', discovering the history of the tragedy rather than the person who wrote the diaries. Don't forget that these stretch over several weeks, including the crippling broken femur.
This game was a little strange but I'm really glad I picked it up.
This is a very beautiful soundtrack
While I'm not a fan of the game, I do love this soundtrack.
In love with this.
