    What should we do when the learner becomes engaged in repetive actions. Many times they tend to be self absorbing.

      attempt to ascertain what is stressing them out to the point where they need to comfort themselves. (instead of attempting to stop them from seeking comfort) Maybe it's as simple as it being time to take a break.

      Another option is to join in.... do the same repetitive actions.... it is far more likely to get their attention, than anything else you do

      @@ruthgardner6468 Ican say it certainly makes an impression on them. Even if they continue rocking or whatever, they turn their turn their attention on you for a split second. After that they close to themselves again though :(
