- 🧿ok BIRTH CONTROL 101 is officially starting (later than I’d planned bc well, this old doc is here at the hosp at 9:25pm BIRTHING BABIES!)
💙SO-guess what if you would LIKE to avoid unintended pregnancies-something your GYNs have ALWAYS aimed for-NOW more than ever is the time to get EDUCATION about the different forms of contraception…we would ALL like to DECREASE the number of unintended/unplanned pregnancies and with EDUCATION and maybe GREATER ACCESS to contraception we can improve the odds!
🧿first up! The combined hormone contraceptive-the pill (we will discuss the ring and patch later, as well as the progesterone only pill, IUDs , shot, implant, withdrawal, female and male condoms, a contraceptive gel and MAYBE even some naturally family planning-ALL forms of contraception with varying side effects and efficacy!
💙BOTTOM line with the pill-while many want to MALIGN it of Late by saying that it “messes with your hormones” or “isn’t natural” - please know that there are ZERO Doctors who would tell you that the birth control pill is perfect and safe for everyone… We would instead tell you the truth which is it can be an amazing tool to help with prevention of pregnancy, painful., Heavy periods, endometriosis, recurrent ovarian cyst, mood, acne, Risk reduction of ovarian cancer among other health issues. AND it can Also in certain circumstances cause high blood pressure, blood clots, irregular bleeding, mood changes, and very very very slightly increase the risk of breast cancer
💙in other words WHAT does @biglovefiercejuju say? “NOTHING is ever ONLY, EVERYTHING is always AND!”
💙meaning: there are pros and cons to every single choice on earth and only you (and maybe some good clean evidence-based medicine!) Can help you decide if the pill is the right choice for you, for right now (because that answer may change over time)… I don’t let anyone cloaked as a well-meaning natural practitioner scare you in a patently anti-feminist way into thinking that you haven’t chosen the pill was wrong… AGAIN, it’s not right for everyone but really outside of kindness, what is?
