Rhiannon is a grammy winning artist, author, and actress. She is quite versed in various musical styles and is very knowledgeable about early folk music. She is quite the musician and performer.

Rhiannon Giddens is magnificent! She’s incredibly versatile, and she can’t really be put in one box or another. Others have mentioned the Carolina Chocolate Drops, and her work with Our Native Daughters is also stellar. I especially love their song Black Myself which features the powerful voice of Amythyst Kiah. (Amythyst also made a single of it, which is stunning. You might like it a lot, Asia. Very deep and strong.)

So many to recommend from her!! I honestly wouldn't have started with this particular song, unless you are really into folk music. Others I prefer: Build a House (featuring Yo-Yo Ma), Come Love Come, Better Get it Right the First Time. Anything on her Freedom Highway album is fabulous

Rhiannon is a musical scholar x that wasn't yodeling. Listen to her Patsy Cline covers x your opinion will come around. Try Wayfaring Stranger. She's one of the great voices x it would be a shame to list her as a yodeler.

I play Birmingham Sunday every September 15th…. Song is about the Baptist Church bombing in Birmingham Alabama in 1963…. Rhiannon’s version is haunting… she does not do just folksie stuff…. There is also a video of her doing Wayfaring Stranger in a Irish Church… her playing banjo and accompanied by an accordion…. Stunning

The "instrument" the man is playing is the BONES! As in... actual bones lol. The oldest known instrument to man... and they INCREDIBLY difficult to play (hence looking kinda goofy while doing it).

All i can add to what others have said is when i started playing the mandolin i thought i could go to my grave happy if i could gain her approval with my playing.
The rest have said it all.
But I'll reiterate, She is one of the greats of our time of any genre.
That is a Resonator mandolin. Don't see many of them.

I think she might be one of the best modern singers that most people don't know about. I've been randomly checking for reactions to her for a couple years now, and you two are the only popular reaction channel that has reacted to her. I first sought her out after playing the Red Dead Redemption 2 video game. She did a few of the tracks in that game and her voice just astounded me every time.

This version of Ruby is really along the lines of today's amazing Blue Grass. Blue Grass is an amazing art form filled with this type of amazing musicianship. I do t think you can really label Rhiannon as she's all over the place in her influences. Many people were surprised years ago when David Lee Roth participated in. Blue Grass recording of Van Halen Hits. Ioved the recording as the musicianship was stellar paying tribute to the music if Ban Halen but many disliked it as purebred Rock fans. To me. It's always interesting to hear other musicians interpret and pay tribute to other artists as we are all influenced by various artists in music especially musicians. You should check out that Van Halen Blue Grass recording.
