D.E.I left such a sour taste in my mouth. They got so much funding and then they cancelled because "hey, give us more money." Seriously, thank you for making the decision for me. Definitely not getting it.
sp1cychick3n that’s the way it works. They set the goal low for stretch goals. The Batman game had a goal of 60 grand but needed 2 or 3 million to break even.

Honestly am sick and tired of these miniature heavy games. They hike up the price and the miniatures add nothing to the game. I understand that people are interested in this but at least give the option for a non-miniature version.
they add thematic value, they are also fun to paint, i hardly pick up a game that doesnt have them
Vincent Balmont that’s unfortunate since you missed out on so many games that don’t have miniatures. Regarding the thematic value, I would argue that well done standees do the same.
Only for the most basic minis. Now-a-days it's quite common to have them in more dynamic poses that doesn't lend itself as well to standees. Not that they don't work, but it's not the same.
Additionally playing a board game is inherently a physical and tactile experience and I always find moving a miniature to be nicer.
If we didn't care about that then none of us would ever buy a game and strictly play print-n-play versions.
All that said, I fully support standee versions for those that want to play without the cost :)

Be careful, I backed the first project and they have still yet to deliver. The minis look fantastic, but they continually push back the date of collecting shipping fees and the general mood on the kickstarter is not great. I will personally not be backing their future projects unless they can turn it around, fast.
Has KoA seen their minis? Surprised he'd be raving over just renders?
Why do so many gamers focus on miniatures these days? Little plastic soldiers don’t make a game, the rules do! Way too many kickstarters have enticed people with fancy bits of plastic instead of focusing on actual gameplay, it’s becoming similar to computer games where resolution and graphics is considered the main focus and leads to shallow, underwhelming trash being released year after year. Id much rather focus on the GAME and have the option of purchasing miniatures as an extra, that way the cost is lower and if the gameplay isn’t great I have saved myself some extra cash.
Just want to add, Cthulhu Death May Die, amazing miniatures, shallow game. So glad I didn’t back it. Just my opinion, not hating, enjoy the hobby.
I’ll judge how much I want it once I get the limbo I’ve already backed.

Too true. I love the fact that there are now more great games than I have time to play - A good problem to have.
2019 KS fatigue is making me think twice on pledging anything
As much as I liked limbo minis I recon they will be veeeeeery expensive. I've wanted to back Dragons of the Red Moon by Draco Studios but for 6 (or 7) minis of dragons were somewhere above £250. Went for .stl files instead :P one day I'll get my 3d printer.
From 2020 games I'll probably back Frosthaven and Wonderland War (second because my wife loves Alice themed stuff). ISS Vanguard is high possible. And waiting for backed in 2018 War for chicken island by Draco Studios to see how the game looks and maybe back their Dodos riding Dinos.
Viscounts of the West Kingdom is live on BBG! It's the final game in the West Kingdom trilogy, and will have a kickstarter in 2020.

I really appreciate the work you put into these videos. I'm glad I came across your channel because I can tell you care about KS backers best interest. It's nice to see lots of big KS games! I'm interested in ANKH, ISS Vanguard and Mortal Kombat II. A couple other KS expansions I'm aware of are Who Goes There 2.0 from Certifiable studios and Cloudspire from Chip Theory Games. I know it's a long shot but I'd love a Dawn of Madness game. Best of luck everyone!
Only thing I missed in this video was if any/all of these were made for solo play (1-4players ect.)
Yeah hard to tell this early on. Half the time we just get some art and renders and a "coming soon" lol - I'll be covering all of these in my monthly KS video series where we'll know more :)
For Contra, I think Blacklist Games stated that it wouldn't go through Kickstarter and would be a straight retail release.
On the other hand, with your taste, you should probably take a look at the Malhya: Lands of Legends campaign when it launches on KS (which is planned for somewhere in the first half of the year it seems). It's done by a french team, so it had very few (far too few I'd say) communication towards international backers (at least they were in Essen this year), but the feedback from the players at french conventions have been great.

But here is one for you: i did not back a single KS this year, maenly because most games are a lot the same. "that looks nice, but in the core it is just a other dungeon crawler" Can you do a revieuw of real new game (concept) for 2020. I know this a har one...

oh yeah for sure! It's definitely a platform that allows many of these miniature lines or huge games that just don't even work at retail to get the limelight :)
Really great overview and video, as is your norm. I really do appreciate all your work that clearly goes into obtaining clear and detailed photos of the disparate items - I know it's a lot of work, because we regularly see artifact-y videos off of channels that probably have a much bigger budget than you're working with. Thanks for the video as always! I’d be interested in a good sci-fi game, so I’ll take a look at Unsettled and Vanguard. I’ll also take a look at Teburu and Ankh, but I’ve had mixed feelings about CMON games. Some non-mini kickstarters I’ll probably back Q1 2020 include Darktower, Foundations of Rome, Genotype, Kanban and Rococo.
Unless people start accepting used KDM sprues as payment, I'll probably be sitting out 2020 kickstarters. Some cool looking stuff though.
hahaha there's a lot of value to KD:M but that's not one of them. The tissue paper though.... ;)

Great Job KoA! This is the gold standard video out there for 2020 KS's of this type. You put some new games on my radar and filled half my self-mandated quota already. No doubt 2020 is going to have some great KS games we will see in 2022 and beyond! (Well except for Wolfenstein, heck yeah!) 😉

The minis to Dawn of Madness are by far the most interesting and inspiring me the most to want to paint this year, in my opinion. I hope the gameplay delivers 🎨

Man, I am so scared for my wallet between all these 2020 teasers and all the Pledgemanagers from this year that I am sitting on from this year. A couple of them I'm probably going to leave at a dollar pledge and hope for a later reprinting like Beyond Humanity, Village Attacks, and Dawn of Madness (speaking of which thanks so much for the opportunity to win a copy; it would really lighten my KS anguish). Of course, I'm still also waiting for that damn CMON Time Machne PM so I can see what that has before I can make any other plans too.
As far as the games I'm anticipating, I'm definitely anticipating Frosthaven, Unsettled and Ankh, but I'm also intrigued by Stormsunder, Neomorphosis , and Call of the Void.
thanks for the elaborate video. my most anticipated game this coming year is probably frosthaven as i dont own gloomhaven yet. am a bit disappointed that the dark crystal/labyrinth kickstarter doesnt seem to involve a game as well, just minis.

They've gotten better, but yeah could still use some improvement. I've actually been talking with the developer and they might go with what CMON used for Death May Die - it comes down to logistics and price of course :)

Brother, you are killin it. Always! Thank you. I know this sounds crazy but i back about 1-2 kickstarters per year but even still i find it suuuuper interesting to look at all of them. Even games i don’t find interesting, i still follow the kickstarters and everything that comes with it. Thank you for this video. These are my favorite videos that you do. Love them all, but the “news” and “upcoming” type videos are my favorite. Great video!
