  • In today’s video we’ll be discussing the best index funds to buy for UK investors! I personally love index fund investing and it makes up c.50% of my overall investment portfolio, and in fairness, its a type of investment that is perfect for most people. It means you’re not trying to select individual stocks, you’re not trying to time the market, and instead you get broad market diversification investing in a large collection of stocks all in one index fund. Today i’ll share 5 personal favourites which are available on Trading 212, one of the index funds I may even consider adding to my investment portfolio!

      It used to be a 165g pack of peanut M&Ms now that pack has gone up from £1 to at least £1.50p sometimes £1.90p. They introduced their share bag at 225 grams which we all know people scoff themselves with no intention of sharing. You consume more but also pay more while the smaller 45g bag is now very hard to come by.

    Hi Mitch great video!
    I already hold a decent amount of S&P500 ETF (VUAG) and looking to add some IITU for growth.
    Would you suggest going with Nasdaq 100 (EQQQ / CNX1) instead for lower returns but greater diversification?
    Thanks!

    I just have the VWRL. Do you think it's worth opening another like VUSA alongside it? Would there be many advantages to that? I just want to keep things simple. Thanks and great video!

    • @Citi-zen86
      @Citi-zen86 Місяць тому

      Depends if you want additional exposure to the US. VWRL is around 60% and VUSA is 100%. The VWRL has the same top 10 holdings than VUSA so personally I wouldn't pay the double the fee. You could have 4x funds (S&P 500, FTSE 100, Japan, Asia Pacific and Emerging Markets) this way you can dial up whatever region you want and is cheaper than VWRL

      Hi Richard, you’re totally right, I should transfer my ISA over really I just haven’t got round to it. I basically opened my vanguard account in 2017, and then stopped investing in it around 2020 and moved to T212, but now T212 have the ISA transfer feature I’ll likely switch it over at some point to say a few quid on fees!

    Helpful video. Considering the argument that the top companies in these funds are possibly overvalued , what is your view on Equally weighted Index funds?

    • @MitchShoesmith
      @MitchShoesmith  Місяць тому

      It’s a good question, I like weighted funds for the reason that the best performing firms push the value of your returns up, appreciate it’s a bit of a double edged sword but when such a small number of firms are driving most of the returns, I’d rather have a bigger weighting towards those stocks. No right or wrong answer, I guess it all comes down to personal risk appetite 👌🏼

    Not sure investing everything in risk 6/7 is necessary ? Also in the first 2 funds you are not investing in a packet of m&Ms but in one case yellow only and in the other red only so in reality they are active funds because you are choosing the sector and the geographical area they are invested in. For many people Invesco ftse all world ETf at 0.15% is a winner and don't people in general need accm when young and perhaps towards retirement change to distr? But thanks for the food for thought.

      It’s a pure US equity play, which I personally like and cant see the US stock market falling off its perch in the next 5 years, but in 20 years from now who knows, another country could very much come to the forefront. Just like the UK, and Japan did in the 1900’s. US markets have dominated for the past 20 years but it may not last forever…

    • @dodiloi
      @dodiloi Місяць тому

      @@MitchShoesmithYes, but think a little. Who can overtake US? EU no, because of war. Asia countries no, because of fertility rate. China no, beacuse the fallin economy. India no, because of the lack of technology. Geography creates winners. And US won.

      @@dodiloi Stronger economy does not mean better returns. Markets now have already priced in the future potential of America, you're buying at a price that will ensure even if US continues to do well you won't make the same return. Better returns come from unexpected growth, not growth that all of us are already expecting.

    I feel investors should be focusing on under-the-radar stocks, and considering the current rollercoaster nature of the stock market, Because 35% of my $270k portfolio comprises of plummeting stocks which were once revered and i don't know where to go here out of devastation.

      Safest approach i feel to tackle it is to diversify investments. By spreading investments across different asset classes, like bonds, real estate, and international stocks, they can reduce the impact of a market meltdown. its important to seek the guidance of an expert
